Welcome to the adventures of a violin maker living in Kentucky. I originally had a shop in Sacramento CA for 20 years, but am now enjoying the beauty and splendor of the grand hills and valleys, lakes and streams. This channel is a compilation of interesting anecdotes and mostly violin related situations. If you wish to contact me, please leave a comment.

Thanks for the episode! We didn't get snow yet, but it is beautiful! I'm glad you made it safely home. I miss Ian's input. It's fun to see him occasionally. What's this about Freddie playing chess?
Hi Fay! It is great to hear from you! We will have to include a little input from Ian now and then. That is a great idea! Freddie and Frederico were just making up stories!!! Hope you have a blessed week!
Thank you for this episode! The Hebrew Minute is Psalm 147:16. I'm glad you had a pleasant time at the convention. The Ice Cream Shop looks like a very nice place. The snow is always a beautiful thing. I love the bow case your friend built. I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving! James Austin Steenson
Hi James Austin! The ice cream shoppe was really fun and the ice cream was good! Thank you for finding the Hebrew Minute. I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving as well, and thank you for commenting!!
violin sounds great. Anoyher great posting. What do the bees do in rhe winter time?
We should have a look at those bees again. So far, I think that they are still around. They tend to stay inside their hive when it gets to cold and eat their honey stores. Thank you for commenting and hope you have a blessed week!
Psalm 147:16, loved the bow box and ice cream shop with antiques! The violin sounded lovely! Have a blessed week. 😊
Hi Sally! Thank you for finding the Hebrew Minute! I am so glad you liked seeing the ice cream shop! I hope you have a blessed week as well! And thank you for commenting!
Glad you enjoyed your trip to Indianapolis, and made it back safely through the snow with all those goodies that somehow followed you home! Thanks for Shalom - it is always good!
I am so glad you liked Shalom! Thank you for commenting and I hope you have a blessed week!
Nice trip. Beautiful machines invented in the 1800.s!
Thank you! It was a real treat to see those antique machines! Hope you have a blessed week!
Very very good 💯😊 Love you all my friends 🤩❤️😊
Thank you! Have a blessed week!
The episode was wonderful. The String Group sounds beautiful. Was the Hebrew Minute Isaiah 48:16? I'm guessing that the log that floated down your creek was spruce? I hope you enjoy yourself at the convention, and that God keeps you from sickness. May I ask you, When you get wood that you would like to make a violin out of, how many years of drying does it take for that wood to be fit for an instrument? Hope you have a wonderful week!
Yes, the Hebrew Minute was Isaiah 48:16! Thank you for finding it! The log really looks like spruce but it is something different. I am not sure about it. That is a great question. I wait for at least 10 years after it has been cut down to use the violin wood. Most of my wood is at least 30 years old. Hope you have a great week!
I went to the Violin Convention in 1980. Very inspirational to listen and learn. Are you exhibiting one of your instruments?
Hi Lloyd! I got in too late to exhibit anything and haven't been there for about 15 years so just going to take a peak and see how much it has changed!!! I am hoping to get some interesting footage but you never know!
Good work on your violin repairs and build! Playing sounds good too. Have a good week ahead:)
Thank you! I hope you have a great week as well!
Neat to see you carving the candles. I haven't seen one of those in many years. I bought my mom one that had layers of color in it and made me think of ribbon candy.
Yes, there is one candle I make that looks like candy corn and another that looks like a candy cane!!! I am glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for commenting and have a great week!
I love Haendel
I do too! His work is clearly inspired by God! Thank you for commenting! Have a blessed week!
Same for you. What about the profesor's cello? He's playing it I guess
@@ositoCastro Yes! He is playing it! We will have to try to get a recording sometime!!!
Thanks for posting, Cheryl. Great content as usual. Good to see the heron back again. Hope you have a goood time at the convention and come back with some interesting footage!
Thank you! I hope so too! This week will be quite an adventure! Hope you have a blessed week!
Another good posting. You do excellent work. I look forward to your posts. I can't wait to hear the violin repaired in this video.
I am glad you enjoyed it! I just played the violin this evening and it is sounding very beautiful! Hope you have a great week!
Beautiful restoration. Great music also.

@@Violinsforu2 I've seen a few shops on YT, and you two have by far the neatest and the most fascinating. Jam packed without appearing cluttered. Would love to have a miniature copy of the whole thing. But - I need to get to work in the sewing room...

HI Cheryl, Congratulations, Congratulations, Congratulations to you Both! I'm just catching up on some videos. Hope you're well and all the best from California. And if I didn't already mention it, Congratulations!!!
It is truly an exciting time! We are calling it Divine Choreography! Thank you Mike!
Thank you for this wonderful episode! It was very interesting. I'm relieved that the cello repair went well. It was interesting seeing the Professor polish the cello. As I watched him do it, I thought to myself, "It is really something that something that doesn't appear to be very beautiful can make something look so vibrant!" The Hebrew Minute was Isaiah 25:1? The handmade tools and box were so nice! Hope you have a blessed week!
It is so interesting that ugly things can work in making something beautiful! I am thinking of the diamond that can be made from soot!! Thank you for finding the Hebrew Minute! I hope you have a full and blessed week!
I fall in love with you and your hairstyle 😢❤
Sorry to make you cry! Hope you have a great week!
@Violinsforu2 🥰 aww
You both look so happy! Hope we can still see - and hear - more from the professor once the cello is done. Please tell us more about using rottenstone. Had to listen through again - did you really say Vuillaume made 3,000 instruments? He made one in a matter of days??? The grain on the little box is like mother of pearl - so special. Freddie and Frederico, you did a great job reporting the who and the what. I would love to know the how and the why and the when it all happened, but perhaps some things are pearls not to be cast before swine, so to speak. Am not sure about the verse - Isaiah 25:1? Interesting reading it in different versions.
Yes, I agree with you that I had to read that over again to myself regarding having made an instrument in a few days. I am wondering if he had a lot of them in the white ready to go and then he would have only had to antique them, but still that would have been amazing to watch! Thanks for finding the Hebrew Minute. I love the ending that His counsels are faithfully true. The more we get to know Him, the more we learn that! Hope you have a blessed week! Thank you for your comments.
Nice episode this week. Liked the story also! Anxious to see more progress on the violin you are making. Thanks😊
Thank you! We'll see how far we can get this week! Hope you have a great week!
It was really interesting to watch you gradually iron out the problems with the cello neck. Thank you, Tim, for sending in those pictures of your shop, Cheryl is right - it's beautiful! Very best wishes to you.
Glad you liked it! Hope you have a great week!!
I am glad your videos bring in more repairs. Your work and skills are much better than commercial shops.
I'm so glad to hear that you appreciate the craftsmanship! Thank you! Hope you have a great week!
Hello Cheryl, nice post as usual. In minute 5 what materials is the professor using to polish his cello? Thanks so much and have a wonderful week.
It is a mixture of mineral oil and rotten stone. Hope you have a great week also!
@@Violinsforu2 Oh, some use the same to rub out a high gloss finish.😆

This has been the BEST episode yet!!!! We are TRULY ELATED by this news!!! The Hebrew Minute is from Psalm 150:6. The orchestra sounds very nice! May God bless you this week! James Austin Steenson
Thank you so much for commenting, James Austin Steenson! I am so glad you are enjoying the episodes. Thank you for finding the Hebrew Minute! I hope you have a blessed week also!
Isn't it amazing that Psalm 150:5 (the verse before the Hebrew Minute says, Praise Him with the timbrel and dance: praise Him with stringed instruments and organ. God has brought you into an amazing relationship in music!
@@steensonfamily It is really amazing. We are calling it Divine Choreography, seeing God's hand over and over! Thank you for mentioning those verses!
Wow - what a surprising new start to a new year! Congratulations to Ian and Cheryl! Lovely to hear the organ accompaniment live, especially for Shalom. Now how does one combine a house full of organs in the UK with a house full of strings in the US? Rhetorical question : ). It will happen somehow. A number of people gave us this verse when we were engaged, so we're passing it on - Ecclesiastes 4:9.
Thank you so much for the kind words and for the verse! I agree wholeheartedly! Yes, it all came to pass during Tabernacles! I hope you have a great blessed week!

I did not know honeybees were that violent. Were the attackers Killer bees? You sure get a lot of rain in Tennessee. We did not get a recordable rain for all of October in the DFW area of Texas. This was a great posting.
I really don't know. We have wondered if they were killer bees. I saw them fighting it out. These bees have really been a bit confusing! We are in Kentucky but yes, we are enjoying a good amount of rain. Thank you for commenting!!

Naturally, I thought this was your best ever episode, but then I'm probably biased! Excellent sleuthing from Freddie and Frederico. Well done both of you! You should set up a detective agency. Hebrew Minute is Psalm 150, the final verse.

@Violinsforu2 Hope you have a wonderful week.
Bow repair with surgical precision! Wow - Maggini purfling! The design would look great in a quilt. The newly refurbished violin singing really set Toby off. Will send photo. Perhaps the hardest part of instrument making is waiting for the varnish to dry? Isaiah 41:10. After reading a book about Jerusalem being the epicentre of the earth I researched where the end of the earth actually is. A distance calculator said Pitcairn Island is the farthest away from Jerusalem, but the antipodal point is Mataura Island in French Polynesia. The islands are neighbours in the South Pacific.
Thank you for the lovely comments. I am so glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, one needs a bit of patience to not set up the instrument before it is ready!!!!
Thank you for showing all the details of a bow re hair and all the little intricate parts involved. That is the first time seeing all the parts removed. I appreciate all the talent, love ,care and attention given to every instrument.

when placing a new sound post crack patch over the old how much additional thickness did you allow? I assume the old patch thickness was correct. I look forward to all of your postings. You make all of your repaired violins sound great.
Great question! I inlay the patch, so I will cut out any old patch completely, and on this violin, there was no patch so I dug out the wood about 1-2 mm and in laid a new piece and then took it down to match the rest of the top which was about 3 mm in that area. Thank you for commenting and hope you have a great day!
