The Rise and Fall of The Miracle Mets (1962-1973)
Просмотров 8295 месяцев назад
The first 11 years of the New York Mets existence saw a historic rise and fall unseen in sports history. They went from the worst team ever to a World Series champion in 7 years. 4 years after that, the team had the most unlikely midseason comeback in MLB history. Along the way baseball legends Casey Stengel, Gil Hodges, Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan, Willie Mays and Yogi Berra passed through the wall...

Baseball has always been about stats and numbers yes the history of baseball players cheated but the home run record for a season and a career is a different story what I didn’t get is in that era only the NL home run was broken the AL record for homers that 61 stood until what was 2023 or 22 also the team record for the Royals by a player in a season was only 35 that was set in 1985 and it wasn’t broken until 2013 so I’m guessing players in the AL value that more.

History would prove him right, of course. Kosar was absolutely done. Belichick also took a pretty bad roster to the playoffs in 1994.

Not taking anything away from the great Hank Aaron, but Hank needed 4,000 more at bats to hit just 40 more homers than Ruth.

Im sure more than half of players are on adderall or something similar. Everything is cool when you have a script.

Barry Bonds was a first ballot HOFer before he ever took a steroid. With them, he became the greatest player ever. Quite a testament to the product, if you ask me. For every Lyle Alzado, there's 4 guys who used them more intelligently. Unless you can absolutely prove any player had never done any "illegal" substances at any point in their career ( and you can't prove a negative) I assume anyone not caught, just knew how to skirt the rules better than the poor schmucks that got caught. EVERYONE IS GUILTY. So, don't keep ANYONE out of the HOF, or everyone is out. Shut it down. I DO NOT CARE

Agree he would be first ballot even before steroids. However, his overall numbers are inflated (compared to other all-time greats) because of steroids. Age 25-29: .604 slugging %; average HR every 13.9 at bats Age 30-34: .600 slugging %; averaged HR every 13.2 at bats Age 35-34: .781 slugging %; averaged HR every 8.2 at bats Wanna guess which of these 3 periods are when he was accused of taking steroids?

The only thing bigger than Bond's steroid-swollen head was his ego.

  • @chrislewis5069

It's ironic that Bobby bonds was an alcoholic and was resentful of reporters. The AA Big Book says resentment is the number 1 offender of alcoholics.

I just can't believe how good of hitter bonds was after steroids. He was a great line drive hitter and with steroids the line drives started going out of the park.

Simply make a section in the Hall call the steroids era. As you pointed out interest in baseball was booming. Fan were filling up the stadiums. The 3pt shot in basketball is a gimmick that increased fan interest until it became boring.

Bonds was given a pass because he was black. His downfall was him not being able to get along with the media. Mark Maguire- cheater Sammy Sosa - cheater Barry Bonds...well.. he had to do steroids because..... blah blah blah.

The industry ruined a damaged person. But Joe loved her most. Marilyn was already a star and independent, probably didn't want a man to tell her what to do. They can switch up. The studios always told the stars what to do including her, she was very smart but wanted her to act dumb. Marilyn flexed her power because the studio thought due to them making her Marilyn from Norma they owned her. People still haven't learned, still going into acting, singing, modeling, they will ruin you when you stop playing the game. But Marilyn was right, she was the only Marilyn. They tried to make Jane Mansfield, Diana Dors etc her and it didn't work. They're still making films off her 60 years later and unfortunately not in a good way. We should let her rest 😢 men too advantage of her from the start. Joe truly loved her and hopefully would have treated her right like she deserved had she just been his but who knows, he married a damaged woman who needed validation from men who didn't care about her. He shouldn't have hit her but it seemed he got therapy and changed, was always there for her and buried her with the help of her sister Berniece and kept the vultures away. Arthur her last husband loved Marilyn but not Norma, he didn't treat her right. Joe was best for her. All the vultures around wanted something

The unsaid part. Many white fans in Brooklyn did not like the fact that Jackie Robinson changed the demographic of the attendance of the games. It went from almost all white, to 50 percent black (negro). This made the move easier. This was back when America was great.

Free agency has damaged baseball. When I was growing up in the late 60s-early 70s if you had a favorite team you could follow that team and know their players but with free agency each year the team roster would usually completely change by the spring and it was hard to form a bond with any player/team.

They were really good. If not for free agency the A's of 70's would have probably won at least 6 or 7 WS titles in that decade. At would have played in that many . They became a national sensation like the Raiders were at same time it's shame that city of Oakland lost these two incredible franchises.
