The Rise and Fall of The Miracle Mets (1962-1973)
Просмотров 6843 месяца назад
The first 11 years of the New York Mets existence saw a historic rise and fall unseen in sports history. They went from the worst team ever to a World Series champion in 7 years. 4 years after that, the team had the most unlikely midseason comeback in MLB history. Along the way baseball legends Casey Stengel, Gil Hodges, Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan, Willie Mays and Yogi Berra passed through the wall...

I honestly think the diamondbacks winning in 2001 put them in sports hell. That city is never gonna win a championship for that lol

The unsaid part. Many white fans in Brooklyn did not like the fact that Jackie Robinson changed the demographic of the attendance of the games. It went from almost all white, to 50 percent black (negro). This made the move easier. This was back when America was great.

Joe Torre won 4 World Series titles all with the Yankees and Dusty Baker finally helped the Astros win a World Series title in 2022. Gene Mauch was sadly the most cursed manager who never managed in a World Series.

Free agency has damaged baseball. When I was growing up in the late 60s-early 70s if you had a favorite team you could follow that team and know their players but with free agency each year the team roster would usually completely change by the spring and it was hard to form a bond with any player/team.

They were really good. If not for free agency the A's of 70's would have probably won at least 6 or 7 WS titles in that decade. At would have played in that many . They became a national sensation like the Raiders were at same time it's shame that city of Oakland lost these two incredible franchises.

My father worked in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn and told us he used to see different Dodgers driving home after their games. He said Campanella was a crazy driver and remarked some day he would be in a terrible accident. I’m still aDodger fan.

It would be great for MLB marketing for the Dodgers to move back to Brooklyn and LA just get there own expansion Team to replace the Dodgers also Philadelphia to get a 2nd MLB Team like the days when Philadelphia had the A's and Phillies playing in Philadelphia. Last it would also be great if MLB had a Champions League sort of like European Soccer where the best Teams in each league play in a Champions League format in this case it would most likely be the best MLB Teams playing against the best Japanese Club Teams in a Tournament style format every year.

Long story short: Walter O’Malley wanted a new stadium built in Brooklyn where the Barclays Center is today, Robert Moses refused to give O’Malley the land. Robert Moses counter-offered O’Malley with land in Flushing Meadows (where Citi Field is now), but O’Malley refused saying “Either we play in Brooklyn, or else we leave New York altogether.” Moses calls O’Malley on his bluff, and the Dodgers leave for Los Angeles.

I'm not sure what Jackie Robinson had to do with the move. All the credit was given to Robert Moses for Shea Stadium and the National League for creating the mets and the stadium. So much more to that story and William Shea's involvement. The story even involves the Denver Broncos football team.

Why is it that every year the Yankees won, even though the core of the team were from the minors, that everyone complained that the Yankees bought the championship, but when the Dodgers do it it’s fine?

I find it laughable that in a sport where fans can literally interfere with gameplay, every park has different dimensions, owners are actually permitted to move the fences, there's no salary cap, the officiating is consistently and notoriously godawful, and both the rules and equipment have tug-o-warred between benefitting hitters and benefitting pitchers for over a century and a half, it's *drugs* that have forever tainted the record book. If you thought steroids ruined the honor of the game, the appropriate reaction would have been to stop paying money to go to the games. That did not happen. No grumbling.
