How to Syncronise Navionics waypoints with a B&G Zeus 3 MFD
Hi, I just thought I would share some knowledge here about syncing the navionics on a tablet with your chart plotter. I hope it saves somebody some time.
This video specifically shows how to sync navionics on an Ipad to the B&G Zeus 3 chart plotter.
Cheers, Chris

    Great video. So i'm interrested in knowing which router you chose and how far up from the seawater the antenna was. You most likely were on LTE B20 or a low frequency channel(dont know which bands they use in sweden) Also i see that you might have put the antenna too low, getting interference from the mast.🙂 Did you find a solution for the Sim card and power button?

    Tips: Secure the bolts using a plastic zip-tie. These are strong enough to prevent the bolt from unscrewing without you noticing it. If a wire is used you are adding a new metal which eventually will start rusting. It's equally easy to spot if the zip is gone.

    Hi - thanks for the video. I have a new B&G Vulcan plotter and wanted to do the same function plot a route at home using a Navionics chart and upload to the plotter. Was disappointed when I could not use the Navionics chart on the B&G app - only C maps it would seem. However, found a slightly different way to yours, may be helpful? Use the Navionics app to plot the route, export as an GPX file using (I’m on apple devices) up arrow (share) to the B&G app (don’t have the app on mirror etc), in the B&G app accept the import (yes), then synchronize with your plotter. Route appeared in routes tab on plotter. Easier - Hmmm not sure? Views!

    If you had a keel made that would break up at it's top and deform, you could avoid this anguish, every time you ground your boat. Let the boatbuilders do their magic and don't burden them with foolish ideas like running wiring through the bilge.

    • @SailingAurora
      @SailingAurora 3 месяца назад

      You might be right about a "safety cushion" there, but I would be a little worried about the other all strength of the keel itself. It needs to be strong as the forces when sailing can be quite alot. As for the wiring, alot of boat builders are running wires through the bilge to keep the weight low. As long as the wire is sealed and doesn't interfere with anything, I can't see too much disadvantage, maybe you have alot more experience.

    • @stanleybest8833
      @stanleybest8833 3 месяца назад

      @@SailingAurora Make some sense. Redesigning a keel would markedly protect the bilge zone. Your wires? Naval vessels run wires in their ceilings. Your wires weigh nothing. You'd keel should have a few bilge pumps, but mostly , it needs access. You swab it and dry it now n then or you have a dirty boat.

    • @SailingAurora
      @SailingAurora 3 месяца назад

      @stanleybest8833 I believe I am making sense, the top of the keel cannot be weak, it must be strong, it is a critical part of the boat. As for the Navy, its a war vessel, they have good reasons to do this. My engine to house battery cables weigh quite abit now as I have upgraded the alternator, probably weight close to 25kg, I really want that weight down low. As long as the wires are sealed in the bilge, I can't see any good reasons why not to run them through the bilge.

  • @stanleybest8833
    @stanleybest8833 3 месяца назад

    The keel top is too narrow. Foolish design.

    • @SailingAurora
      @SailingAurora 3 месяца назад

      If the keel was wider at the top, it wouldn't make much difference, sorry I don't agree. If the keel was longer on the top the leverage would be less during a grouding, it's why full keel boats don't suffer as much damage.

  • @granjrgensen7957
    @granjrgensen7957 3 месяца назад

    The depth displayed in maps is usually "lowest-astronomical-tide". Meaning the level of the ocean when the moon is at it's closest to the earth, and manipulating the tide. So if your depth in the sonar ( todays depth ) does not match the map-depth, it just means you are "not currently" at lowest astronomical tide.

    • @SailingAurora
      @SailingAurora 3 месяца назад

      That is true but up here we have little to no tide, the water level only changes with the pressure of the air and it's not that much. Usually the depth displayed on the chart is pretty accurate here

    Hi. Good video to check prior to my mounting of the same in a Dufour 390! Thanks. How did you find out the distance between anchor davit and the through hole + the location of the davit?

    • @SailingAurora
      @SailingAurora 4 месяца назад

      Use something thin and straight once you have mounted the davit in the location you want it. A welding rod works really well and then you can really line it up with where the hole needs to be drilled

    • @SailingAurora
      @SailingAurora 4 месяца назад

      For the location of the davit, make sure its above the water line but the location really depends on where the line needs to run on the inside of the boat to the winch. The first roller should be 30+ centimeters away for the winch. Let me know if your stuck with it.

    • @hakanbolsoy6076
      @hakanbolsoy6076 4 месяца назад

      @@SailingAurora You were super quick to answer 🙂. The distance to first roller is anyway far more, and I am quite free where to to make the hole in the transom. Therefore wondered if there are anything other that would guide, especially vertically (and other than bathing platform).

    • @SailingAurora
      @SailingAurora 3 месяца назад

      Not really to be honest,, you just have to string it all up like I did in the video and see what looks right. 1. Avoid the bathing plaform 2. Keep the anchor out of the water 3. Try and make sure the davit is level 4. When the davit is up, make sure you can tie it up there easily 5. Position the hole in line with the windlass on the inside 6. use a welding stick or similar to guage how far the hole should be above the davit 7. Measure twice, drill once :) and do it while the boat is on land Hope this helps

    Sorry to see this. I am really surprised to see what huge damage the boat has taken… I was seriously considering a Hanse as my next boat, but I can’t get over the amount of damage you have suffered. I had an X-442 X-Yacht (danish built) and once had a bad grounding on an uncharted rock (after the Tsunami in Thailand), but the only damage we had was to the bottom of the keel…. So I guess I’ll have to save up more and stick to X-Yachts. Good luck with the repairs !!

    • @SailingAurora
      @SailingAurora 4 месяца назад

      The repairs are all done now. The Xyachts are built with a steel grid and very strong but will a fin keel, inevitably you will break something if you hit a rock hard enough. There was an X Yacht in the yard recently with the same damage as ours, had to have the grid glassed back to the hull, so they aren't immune. The damage to our boat was in 2020, she is stronger than ever now 💪. Hope you find a good boat, cheers

    I'm having a rough time figuring out a transducer for my new B&G Zeus3s....the dealer had no idea, and Navico Tech Support kept me on the phone 4 hours and 20 min...with the last hour claiming I was " Next" before I hung up, disgusted I had wasted an entire day I needed to be working on the hull ! 🤬 Besides the Forward Scan, what's the other transducer you're using ? I did buy a StuctureScan 3D through-hull because I saw you could plug 2 ForwardScans directly into the Zeus, then found, again with no idea from the dealer...that the StructureScan3D has a 12-pin Y-cable....so evidentally, and with NO documentation anywhere, it still requires the StructureScan3D interface box ! 😱 The entire transducer-lottery is a black-box nobody in Support roles has much grasp on if you're not using their power boat stern-mounted Skimmer transducer that frequently comes with your chartplotter/MFD. ...and, salt in the wound, I even tried calling Airmar to talk about the StructureScan3D transducer before it came in to the dealer....only to be told "Oh, that's not ours, you'll have to talk to Navico "(on HOLD for 4+ hours)...I then get my hands on it, open the documentation, and it says Airmar in big bold letters ! 😱🤬

    • @SailingAurora
      @SailingAurora 4 месяца назад

      Sorry to hear about that experience you had, sounds like a nightmare. I haven't had much contact with Navico other than a problem with a software update and they were pretty OK. We have the forward scan and the Airmar transducer with log and depth. Both have been working so far with no issues. When buying the forward scan I was very careful as if the length of cable was more than a certain amount of meters, i would need extra boxes which would cost a fortune. I hear Raymarine is a little simpler to deal with and the dealer in Sweden is a really nice guy.

    I own a charter business, 42 year business in BC canada. The issue with charter boats is lenient process. We have many clients that are no issue, maybe because they are accustomed to our process. If you review our “prepare for charter “ page, it our expectation that you review the information and come prepares like a professional skipper. You have a route plan, you know how to get weather information, you understand the rules of our business, no hard bags onboard…..blah blah blah. But its these standards that leave our boats in very good condition. We have a 2008 Beneteau 40 that is still gorgeous because I do all the orientations and there is no pass GO until you comply. Sure, there are stressful times with those reckless type skippers but I don’t relent. You either treat our boats like your own or go home. And yes, we loose some clients, just never come back but if I compare our boats to those where no control is exercised, I know we do the right thing, after all we own some of the boats. I’m not about to allow anybody to wreck my big investment because they simply don’t conduct the duties of a skilled skipper. No route plan and you Blaine to find a rock in the area and devalue our vessel simply because you don’t care to follow good seamanship, not an option with me. Go buy your own boat, wreck it and see how you feel after that, see the extent of rebuild it takes to repair a grounded sail boat. All charter business should do this and the industry will have a better name and better boats that lost longer. Besides that the insurance companies are withdrawing from the market, they too won’t accept the risk of poor seamanship and pay big money to repair the damage, Gaurd your insurance before they deny renewal. Its cheaper for the client to take a skipper than to pay for the insurance, promote it.

      Well said an completely agree. If you can stomach the worry and trust your clients based on how they are it's a good business for sure. It's a lot of work though preparing the boat, cleaning, admin etc. I glad we tried it, and we learnt alot. It's just not for us though

      @@SailingAurora lots of hard work keeping boats in good condition. But they are so expensive now, private ownership and charter ownership just seems unaffordable. Basically double in price over covid. Then you have insurance that also doubled in the last 6 years. Moorage here is expensive and boat parts are too besides nobody has any stock of parts. This charter industry is going to struggled in the next 10 years.

    Your club island, Västerön, are guest boats welcome there?

    • @SailingAurora
      @SailingAurora 4 месяца назад

      Hi Ulrik, it's not a club island we regularly go to like Sandön as it's a little far out. We are not members but we could pay a small fee to stay there and use electric, so none members are also welcome. I read it here also: lignabatsallskap.se/v%C3%A4ster%C3%B6/%C3%B6vernattning.html I hope it helps. Cheers, Chris

    How about chartering with captain…you

    • @SailingAurora
      @SailingAurora 4 месяца назад

      It's a good idea and we have thought about it. One of us needs to have a Class 8 certification though to run a commercial business on a boat. Currently this can currently only be done in Swedish. I need to work on that a little bit.

      Hey Joakim, it's a beautiful place for sure. Perhaps we should take a beer there together this summer. Indeed, Morris is a little bigger but they look very similar
