I Qualified for Boston Marathon 2025 - Now What?

I have faced real marathon struggles. IT has hit me hard after my marathon last year, and even though I have (most likely) qualified for the Boston Marathon 2025, I have struggled a lot after the race. I went fro zero to marathon in 4 months, and did a 2.52 marathon on my first ever try.
I never thought I'd run a marathon. As a former speed skater I never thought I would go all in on running. Yet, here I am, running the Boston marathon 2025.
I am so excited about the marathon, but I am also worried about my recent injury, how my training will go moving forward and even my motivation.
What does it take...

I was surprised by this attitude towards a regular customer and fan. The glasses are good, the attitude towards the buyer is very bad. I am disappointed !

Folks should note that they’re paying not only for hardware, but for support and service. I bought a Polar watch last year. Worked great; I liked it. But I lost it, so I ordered another one, same model. The new watch did not work, right out of the box. It would not charge or sync. Polar told me to ship it back, and they would replace it. I shipped it back. They did not replace it. Instead, they shipped back the exact same defective watch. I have since contacted them a dozen times without resolution. On their site “chat” a rep has told me repeatedly that “a specialist” will contact me to resolve this. But nobody from Polar has ever contacted me. I just get automated emails that say, “We are currently experiencing a high amount of contacts, so unfortunately our response time is longer than usually.” Maybe they are swamped with product returns, I don’t know. But it’s been over a month since I first asked for a replacement, and there’s no indication that anyone at Polar is doing anything to address this. Very disappointing. Caveat emptor: It seems Polar has some significant problems with quality control and customer service.

Started training for my 1st marathon. With exactly 6 months until race day. Marathons are incredible feats, and it's completely natural to feel drained and frustrated after hitting an injury. Injuries are a temporary hurdle, not a roadblock. But remember, you pushed your body to its limits, and now it deserves quality rest. This temporary hurdle is a chance to focus on neglected areas like strength training and flexibility, potentially making you an even stronger runner. Think of this as an investment in your future runs. While recovery is key, stay connected to the running community for inspiration. Perhaps explore other active pursuits like swimming or yoga. Imagine yourself back on the track, feeling even better than before. Running a marathon is a journey, not just a finish line. Embrace the learning experience, celebrate your accomplishments, and know that even the greatest runners face setbacks. It's your determination that defines you! Goodluck.

Thank you for doing the review. As an avid Oakley collector, a few issues I would have mentioned: 1) Absolutely the WORST choice for a frame color. For a "premium" and "limited release" (not even sold out yet, as you correctly pointed out), Oakley should have introduced an exclusive and exciting frame colorway. Instead, they pumped out an UGLY, DRAB, and downright BORING hue that looks like recycled trash. 2) Boring lens color as well. Again, for a "limited" and "exclusive" product, why not give us a POLARIZED Kato-like lens - especially given the fact that there has never been a Polarized or Prizm Polarized Kato lens yet? At least they could have released an eye-catching iridium such as 24K, Positive Red, or even Jade... But of course not. 3) No serial number. After the stunt they pulled with charging $2,300 + tax for the Muzm Mars (also no serial numbers) and they're all over the place, I've completely lost faith in Oakley's "limited-edition" releases. Until they start serializing their eyewear, I'm 99% "out" for their future releases. 4) Despite looking unique, that case was still "half" a case. When you're gonna expect the consumer to shell out $500 (with tax) for a pair of shades that probably cost around $5.00 to manufacture (I believe your $10 estimate was very generous), at least provide a PREMIUM presentation. This case left much to be desired, since it seemed like it was only "half" there. Just my opinion. Again, thanks for the review and let me buy those Green Pro M Frames from you! 😀

Love this comment. And after I first saw your comment, I've been trying to think about my feelings around the choice of color. I guess a limited edition would have deserved something more colorful, but I also don't hate the color. I guess it's growing on me. But I also have a lot of colors on my other pairs. When it comes to everything else you mentioned, I totally agree! And the green ones will never be sold. Unfortunately haha. Thanks for commenting!

It’s the first release of the bigger marketing campaign Future Genesis that will bring oakley back to its roots leading up to its 50th anniversary in 2025. The plain and sometimes considered “boring” color choice for the glasses give it a prototype style, which for a collector can be seen as cool. It falls into the sports performance category but at the end of the day it’s an expensive collector piece that many people will want to get their hands on

I agree with you on the color and they’re growing on me as a model. But I don’t know what I think about the limited edition being available for months after the release. Either I am the only one willing to pay that much, or it’s not a very limited edition.

@@theformerathlete their limited edition remakes of classic pairs such as the mars, subzero, and mumbo were super sought after and made in even smaller quantities. Even “recent” releases like the Xeus, which was a new style that retailed for a premium price, sold out super quickly. I view this pair as something that is limited, not everybody wants to pay the price, but they made enough of them to give buyers an opportunity to get in on the action when it comes to the next chapter of oakley. I personally bought this pair as almost exclusively a collectors piece that I may wear on special occasions. I’m excited for what’s to come next

Hi, Thanks for commenting! In my opinion you can't run too slow. I know athletes that, due to health issues, had to start walking because anything else gave them to high of a HR. I think that if you feel like you're so slow that you don't actually run, you should try to add 1-2 minutes of a bit faster pace every now and then during your slow run. That way you will be able to work on your technique. After having done something for several months without ANY progress, I would start looking into what I could do different. My guess is that it's not that you're not responding to low intensity. It could be that your HR zones are not correct, or that there are other things affecting your progress. But look for signs of progress, whether that is being able to run longer, or faster at the same HR. It could also be worth looking at how much rest you get, and how often you have rest days. If nothing seems to work with low intensity, together with one treshold workout a week, I would try to polarize your training even more by going very slow when you're going easy and short, but hard intervals when going hard. Have you included threshold in your training? And have you gotten HR zones from a professional?

Forget about social media...Go and read the training methods of Athur Lydiard...he use to call it...LSD...Long slow distance...yes for elite athletes the programes changed a lot over the years...but for us...we can get away with murder in just LSD....but how slow is slow is slow....you must always keep that in mind...go do your reachurge....My PB is 2hr28m on LSD plus lots of hill training...thats it !!!Dont try to achive this if you are not willing to do 160km/week for 6 to 8weeks before your marathon...good luck...go hard or go home !!!

Hi, I really like your videos. Can you please share your learnings on managing the IT Band pain. I am a beginner Runner but feel that my IT BAND won't let me pursue my running ambitions.

Thank you! I think it’s different from person to person and I am currently trying to figure it out. It usually comes from a weakness in your hips, so strength training is imperative to getting it fixed. At the same time you need to stay away from activities that hurt. For me it means more stretching (hamstrings mostly), indoor cycling (just because it’s winter outside and I can’t ride it outdoors) and most importantly strength training. I am able to do squats and deadlifts, but I also have to do easier exercises for my hips. I will post some of those here soon. For me the tests I did on my hips proved that I was incredibly weak in some parts of my hips. That might be the case for you too! Other than that, we can all benefit from less sugar when having injuries as sugar fuels inflammation! Hope this was somehow helpful.

I truly appreciate you taking the time to provide such a thorough response. I was considering outdoor cycling as well.I'll attempt to include hips strengthening as well. Actually, where I live, it's difficult to find scientific sports facilities. Take us though your journey on RUclips. I'm following you on Strava as well. Thank you. 🙂@@theformerathlete

@@subhrajit.talukdar I have this channel with the purpose of helping others, so I think it is important to do so if I can. Good luck with your running and rehab! I'll try to make some videos on what things I am doing to get back to running as well!

Also, thanks for the low intensity advice from the previous video! I ran all through the Xmas break at Tempo without realizing it due to all the stress involved in caring for my sick dog and ended up with an injured hip! I'm still regretting it but am confident I'll get through this!

I am so happy that you find it helpful! It's so easy to do too much and too fast. I am currently suffering from some of my own mistakes. IT's easier to tell others what to do, than to follow that same example yourself lol

Great content and production values. I know from experience that getting into the RUclips algorithm seems impossible as my videos don't get many views either. It's also a huge amount of work to put together a simple video. Keep up the good work!
