Interesting video! Am looking for running sunglasses, and after trying another brand, I may come back to Oakley. This reminds me that I think I have an old pair of the Pro M Frame stashed away with the yellow lens. Used to love those, need to track them down! Had the original M frame as well in a clear frame, but they broke. Anyway, a few models later and I'm back on the hunt. Thanks for the vid!
Honestly, I just love them. There are a lot of good ones, but the m frame is such a game changer imo. But I also think you’d love the Sutro lite if you liked the m frame!
I love the radar line Fits well and does not fog Have 2 original Radar in white and carbon from 2013/14 and 1 orange Radar Lock from 2017. The carbon pair used as by beater pair. I also have a Holbrook from 2019 Have yet to try any other newer models
@@theformerathlete I bought the EV's yesterday, felt fine in store but wore them for about 20 minutes and gave me a migraine. Too much pressure on my bridge of my nose and way too much focal point pressure behind my ears. Very disappointing, I love the lenses though!
They are going to release a Sutro Lite but in a titanium frame this fall. You should also take a look at M-Experiment, founded by Oakley's creator Jim Jannard and his son. They are releasing some new colors of a very popular frame for their one year anniversary on 7/8. The build quality of their glasses and lenses will remind you of when he used to own Oakley.
thanks! I have looked at the M-Experiment before, but it's been a while. Maybe I have to take a look again! It seems you are almost just as into Oakleys as me?
I’ve been wearing them since the early 90’s and currently have about 85 pairs 😂. About 50 pairs are pre 2006 models before Jim sold the company, I love the older stuff. You should join the Oakley forums if not already. O-review has the most comprehensive database of Oakley products and Oakleyforum has the most active for-sale sections and modding discussions.
What are the best lenses for running? I was looking at trying to get a pair of Oakleys (haven’t decided a model yet) and didn’t know if I should go for the most expensive prizm polarized/photocromatic lenses or just go for some regular ones, I’d need these for track/xc races so the conditions could really very and I don’t want to spend a ton of money on different pairs for different things. Also great vid, will help me pick which model for sure!
It's all preference, but if you want to use them in any situation, photochromic will get you far! I also like the Prizm road, as they can be used in sunlight and when it's not super bright outside. Just keep in mind that photochromic won't really work as sunglasses if you're in a car even though you might have sunlight in the car.
Great stuff, thank you. When it comes to cleaning the sweat in the middle of a run, and based on your experience, what do you reckon works the best? I find myself always putting the glasses away halfway through a long run because I just can’t see anything. And then I’m afraid of scratch the lenses if I try to clean them dry with the T-shirt.
Thanks for watching, Daniel! I usually try to think ahead, and before the sweat even hits the lens I will take my sunglasses off, and wipe of my face a little. But this is also how I decide which ones I like. The ones that I feel get dirty as soon as I start sweating, I probably wont use for that kind of training. I am never worried about my lenses if I clean them with my cotton t shirt. The problem is that most of the tank tops or t shirts I wear when running are not made the same way as an ordinary cotton t shirt, thus it doesn't work very well. I have found that the Sutro Lite doesn't give me as much of a hassle when I sweat a lot. That could obviously just be my face, but I find them to work the best like that.
@@theformerathlete thanks for taking the time to answer. Appreciate it. I have the Flak 2.0. I think I may need to get a different model, perhaps bigger frame again. I used to have the Radar EV ones, but could never get used to the design.
Nice video man! I’ve definitely been on the fence of either buying the 13.11 or the Pro M Frames first so this and your previous video on the 13.11 helped! I know you use Oakley’s for a lot of your physical activity, but do you not like the eye jackets? Those are definitely one of my favorite frames. I don’t know if you’ve seen but the running clothing brand ‘Satisfy’ has been dropping eye jackets collabs, so I’m guessing they could work for running if you wanted to 😅. I personally really like the style. I decided to get the orange Piet x Oakley eye jackets, and they’ve definitely been one of my go to’s lately.
Dude! Thanks for watching and commenting! Honestly, they are so cool. So retro, weird and still cool. I might have to get myself some of those at some point lol. Do you use them for sports? As mentioned in the video, I am a huge fan of bigger lenses for all sweaty sports haha
Always wanted to find a Mframe but they got disconnected :( this, I got myself a pair of radar and radarlock Oakley should bring back some of their old mframes
@@theformerathlete The 13:11 lens has a notch in it in the bridge, so any donor lens would have to be notched to fit the 13:11 frame accordingly. It can be done, lots of lens cutters out there make donor lens for old and current models that don't have many options. A kato lens can be cut to fit the pro mframe and do a homemade 13:11.
@@boboso7238 never thought about that before! I only looked it as impossible to use the m frame lenses on the 13.11. I was happy when I realized I could take the 13.11 lenses and use them for my pro m frames tho
@@theformerathleteI enjoyed when you talked about the old ones, maybe I’m just greedy for more Oakley content lol, like tell a story about each of them and what they mean.
Hello ! Also an @Oakley fan. but my lenses are worn out. But they didn’t change it. They simply offered first a 20% discount and then a 50% discount. I was surprised by this attitude towards a regular customer and fan. The glasses are good, the attitude towards the buyer is very bad. I am disappointed !
This changed when they were bought by an Italian group. Oakley used to be the best on customer service like this, but I guess they have to follow guidelines given by their mother company (I don’t like calling them that). I remember being able to send photos and get new products in the mail based on those. These days it’s not the same
Fuse Lenses sells replacement lenses for many types of popular sunglasses so they might be able to help you out. Customers can get Polarized not polarized, mirror, not mirrored , etc.
I tried them and I thought they felt good on. Did not like the design tho. Just too big on my face. Curious to see how it would look with the new lenses I saw them using in the Safe House in the Olympics this year tho
Agree on the quality, its not the best. I've hot some Sutro Lite Photochromic and some Jacket 2 XL, quite flimsy compared to my old E Wires from 1991! 😁✌️
I guess times are changing. But I do think the quality still is good. Just not as good as it used to be. And as with everything else we buy these days, all brand products will be a bit over priced imo
Current lens quality is shit. I have lens from 2 decades ago , perfect condition. Secondly Oakley has gone too effeminate in men’s glasses. Both in colors or styles. Gone are the days of matte black Straight Jackets circa 2007 with black lens they scream dude glasses. 🤣🤣🤣Oakley went woke.
In your opinion, the best for road running only?
Personally, I like the Sutro Lite best. Sweep or not, I like them both 😊

I had the same yellow pro m frame and the black pro m frame but for me the best remains the ev xs radar given that I have a small face.
Interesting! I have never tried the xs, but just figured they would be too small for me 😅
