Avoid These Common Electrical Outlet Mistakes
As for the surge protector to install on the 120v disconnect box its pretty simple as well. Your surge protectors work for both 120v and 220v . The surge protector comes with 3 wires : 2 blacks and 1 white. The white is not the neutral but it is the ground. So tie it to the ground nut in the box. The other 2 wires ( black ), for the 120 wiring ,you tie the 2 blacks together as one wire and put it on the one the load side of the condenser wire hot black. Thats it. For 220 you put each black on the load sides. And cut the chord as short as it requires without bends. Hipe that helps a bit and gipe not confusing. Based in this video you put the 2 black wires of the surge protector together on the load side. And the ac coming in hot black on the as he shows. The neutral line in can be tied together with a nut or as he shows in this video. Every city has their own codes. Ask the inspector if you need to and wire it that way. But i shut breaker off from inside panel when i do service and the disconnect box as well.
Hi! We are planning on installing a Seville four zone 36000 BTU soon. We used to have baseboard heating. I am hoping I can reuse the double pole 220V breaker for the mini splits. Thoughts?
As long as it's dedicated to the new split I don't see why not
thank you sir! senville is kinda light on the instructions. nowhere in the book does it say to open top valves
Great point! Hey thanks for watching!
A mechanic in NY State charged me $150 to top off my Honda Civic ac,with the NON POLLUTING COOLANT)! I wonder if they use that in China, Russia or India?
Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
Extremely well done. Clear and concise. Thank you sir!
Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
This was a GREAT video. The irony is that "certified" electricians either can't, or aren't about to explain anything. I think I'm over-thinking this, but this part doesn't confuse me as much as how this leads back to the main breaker panel. You see a lot of videos on this part of it. I need to run a new breaker from our main box across the house somewhere accessible to our 2nd floor master bedroom for a mini-split. And, I need to do it in a way that doesn't get me castrated because it looks like a huge eye-sore. Certified electricians want an insulting amount of money to do this, and short of running the wire, it doesn't seem like it's that hard of a job (compared to the mini-split install itself). Any advice, or link you can give on the 1st part of this...i.e. main fuse box to the shut-off?
I would say first check to see if your panel has any dedicated electrical line running in the area where you need it but isn't in use. I have seen that so many times. But if you need to run your own line it's not usually a problem if you have attic access, you can hide the line in the attic and drop it out under the roof eve. But you are correct running the line and connecting it is not a big deal.
@@ILikeToBuildStuff Thank you! I’m hoping, like you said there’s a line running to that side of the house. If I have to use the attic, I’ll have to wait till winter. It’s 120 degree’s up there literally. The heatwave/drought in Fl right now is beyond brutal. Fortunately, it looks like the electrical part of this should be fairly straight forward. Thanks again for the reply.
I hope I get a shirt
Thanks Raymond
Doesn’t look like presuure treated lumber. I guess you can get away with that where you live.
Above ground and no contact yes, I have had extremely good luck even living in Hawaii with using Sikkens Cetol DEK Finish - CEDAR #077 and flooding the wood. Another factor was just trying to get the wood during the shut down, there was no cedar available anywhere under a million dollars. LOL thanks for watching I sure appreciate it.
Do you have to place it on the side of your home or can you put it on the ground somehow?
Absolutely, I chose this because we foster dogs and didn't want to give them a chance to chew the lines and insulation.
all others were showing 220. the mini unit calls for 120 and I have a 20 amp breaker at the box and you nailed it Sir.
Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
You can use a single 20 amp breaker for a 110v mini split. Black goes to breaker white and green go to bus bar
super. very simple and direct
Thank you 🙂
Nice work , shout out to the Mixer Driver 😊
Indeed!
Great video, but you skipped on a few things, like explaining how and where to hook your blue line to evact the air. I do see where you put, but didn't show you opening a valve, or did it have a Schrader valve and you did not have to open the valve, yet ? And what are the two flare sizes you did ( you skipped those) Can you do a follow up ? Thanks
Thanks for the tips! I appreciate it.
2:40 - in your opinion, is the 'British Brace' you used stronger than the 'Double Zed Brace' ? I want to add a backing to my new doors but am worried about the extra weight. There are three substantial band hinges on each door.
Both have their merrits, I have never had a problem with this style sagging but I would say go with whichever you are more comfortable with. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it.
It's crooked lol
LOL, Yeah the camera wide angle lens does the sometimes, thanks for noticing Jim! Thanks for watching too
Really here's what you need to know Mr. cool is absolute garbage it's junk. How do I know the three years? I've had this product in my house and it has crashed. It has burn out a blower motor. It freezes up continually. There's no support no warranty coverage nothing it's garbage buy something else.
Wow, I don't hear that to much about MrCool products and much less the lack of support. I have had very good luck with Senville, the one in the video and heck I have also had good luck with MrCool too. Thanks for sharing and watching Jeff we love to hear about the good and bad experiences.
may be a silly question, but what is the name of that saw?
Not silly at all, it's a DEWALT Miter Saw, Single Bevel, Compound, 10-Inch amzn.to/3ViVfVc Thanks for watching!
I'm about half way installing a Senville 36K btu quad unit and you're video is invaluable! I watched it a couple of time before deciding on Senville and two more times since my I received the delivery of my equipment. The only big difference between my install and yours - all my head units are on interior walls, so the piping is going through the ceiling and attic then down an outside wall. Need to install condensate pumps since I can't gravity drain them - and that's a PITA...LOL But it's looking good, so far thanks to you for making this - great job! Thanks!!!
Glad it helped Rob! I sure appreciate you taking the time to comment and watch my videos.
I agree all HVAC companies should work for free. 🤡
I plan to put a mini split in my kids room on the second story. I don't have electric outlet on the outside of my house. can I power the unit from inside the room? I only have 120v.
You should follow manufactures recommendations. I would only use a dedicated circuit to power any unit
No
For me as a fluent non-native speaker, it's a great relief to see an American struggling with the word "rural" :D
Oh heck I get tongue tied on many words, but we call it an Arizona accent. LOL
Thanks again for posting this! I got the 2 doors made, trimmed, insulated and painted. I had to use 1/4" plywood as the rockwool insulation is too dense to cover smoothly with 1/8" luan. The doors fit great, don't sag and can easily be opened and closed, even though each one weighs over 100#. I also used 2 packs of the metal lock barrel bolt you have listed in the description; work great!
Nice! appreciate ya commenting and watching!
I hope you get this because I’ve purchased mini splits and None of my local companies will install. It’s may going on June in North Carolina. I have companies quoting upwards of $3000 to $10000 to install. I’d be able to afford it but I’m a Disabled Army Rigger who knows nothing but how to strap things down. You make it look easy. I hate living on a fixed income and
Take your time and common sense and you should be able to tackle this project. Thanks for watching and commenting I sure appreciate it!
@@ILikeToBuildStuffhe said he’s disabled
To install it should be $1,000-$1,500. *if you have everything needed. I would recommend reaching out to a locally Veteran owned company and see if they can help you out.
@@jmccOutdoors I wouldn't begin to tell any Disabled person they can't do it and I do not know Her full conditions, I can hope no one puts them self in danger.
@@jmccOutdoors Absolutely
Are there any indoor air handler units where the HVAC and power lines come in from the left side of the cabinet instead of the right? I have one location in my house where that would be useful for the lines to come in on the left side.
Yes and this one I could have exited the wall on the left but would not have the extra tubing lineset to play with. But to answer your question it could have gone left or right
This is the video I was watching and I can’t find what you used for weather stripping. I’m making doors for an old barn for a pool room and am wondering what you thought about bronze spring weather stripping. Thanks….enjoy your videos!
I used this seal at the bottom that works great amzn.to/3VBhPFp I used the 1 inch foam seals around the doors inside trim amzn.to/3Hp2i6q
@@ILikeToBuildStuff thanks for the information…have you ever used bronze spring weatherstripping…just curious. That’s what’s on my house and it’s been there 100+ years. Only reason…thanks again.
@@KBMB47 Yes I have but don't think the cost is worth it with the new stuff out that may not last as long but still 25 years or more depending on the application.
@@ILikeToBuildStuff Ok thanks for the information!
Did you use 12-2 to the disconnect and the outside unit? Or did you use 10 going from the disconnect to the outside unit?
Yes, on a 20amp circuit I ran a dedicated 12-2. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your video. Could you please tell me what diameter and cutting length your pattern bit was to cut the final pocket from the template. I have been having difficulty cutting my final pocket from the template. Thanks.
Here are the bits amzn.to/3WFE8y1 and I used the 1/2" as 3/4" length would put the ball bearing above the template. Hope this helps!
To confirm if you have a 3 head unit you will need to vacuum each of the 3?
Yes you would need to do each lineset one at a time
You had enough littel boy go back home
Excellent Job sir
So nice of you, thanks for watching!
I’m screwed, I can’t cut a straight line to save my life. 😂😂😂
LOL, sure ya can! Thanks for watching!
Super helpful! One question: my electrician wired 12 gauge to my disconnect. Can I use a 10 gauge AC whip with that?
Sure, you just can't go the other way to smaller wires.
Needs to be foldable, kinda like the Lufkin crescent speed square
Yeah something like that. Thanks for watching
I had a professional give me a quote to install a 36K dual head (his brand whatever that is) He only wanted $14500+13% tax=$16385 sales tax. LMFAO. I bought direct from Senville and it was $300 cheaper than Amazon and free shipping. Total cost?...$4100CAN. I am installing it myself. Extra expenses to plan for are the 65' of 8/2 wire(in my case), 40amp breaker, Air break non fused panel, conduit for outside, Patio stones to sit compressor on. Flaring tool. Line covers. I'm still saving more than $10K by doing it myself.
Outstanding, thanks for jumping on here and letting all of us know, be sure to check back in after and let us know how the install went!
Thanks so much. Great video and easy to follow. Thank yoou!
I sure appreciate you joining in here and the great comment it means a lot to me that you would take the time to watch my video!
Hi great video, my question is..the system uses a 20amp braker, so can i use a 30 or 60 amp disconnect box? Thanks
Yes you can! and thanks for watching
I'm a sheetmetal guy, not a drywaller, but it was explained to me at one time that you wanted your dry wall seams staggered. I guess its supposed to provide more rigidity. As I said, I'm a sheetmetal guy, so I don't know. Thats just what I was told. Your job looks good to me. Seems as though it would simplify the mudding process.
Hi Brad, thanks for jumping in on this. I have always done them in horizontal with staggered seams but on this one I talked to a number of installers that said doing it vertical was not a problem because it's not a shear strength thing but if the building moves from wind, earthquakes etc. doing it this way may crack at seams more. Thanks again for the comment and for watching I sure appreciate it. oh and I still suck at drywall! LOL
@ILikeToBuildStuff Love your whole series of videos chronicling your shop build. They were awesome. Thinking about doing something myself, but I'm nor entirely sure which route I want to go yet. Your shop turned out awesome though. Thanks for all the inspiration!
Thank you for the effort. Still, this was very poorly explained, illustrated, and photographed. You are entire description of the vacuuming and charging of the unit was not clear. Did you not run a pressure test? But most importantly, you showed very little about procedure for connecting the wiring to the power source. I believe that using these instructions as a guideline for installation by someone with no experience is asking for trouble.
Thanks for the comment, sorry the video isn't helpful to you and I didn't do a good job but I appreciate you watching the video anyways.

Hey Thanks Robert, I appreciate it.
Great job. Right to the point.
Much appreciated!
Wished you showed more about bleeding air from the system. I have a 5 unit set up and still don’t fully understand the steps yet
sorry I will try and do better in future
@@ILikeToBuildStuff don’t get me wrong the video was great and very helpful regardless. And I think I’ve got it figured out now
Hello sir,do you have the video how did you wired from electrical panel to the compressor and what size of wiring.
No, sorry I have had issues with viewers not following the direction given and they installed improperly which can cause fire or even death. I did run a dedicated 10/4 line from a 30amp circuit approximately 40 feet to the a/c disconnect within metal conduit
Hi Jim, question can I mount a gfi outlet on the disconnect /120v sharing the same power source to the a/c ?
No, the a/c unit is known for tripping GFI and as per code I am almost certain everywhere in USA it's a dedicated line with only the disconnect allowed.
Great video. In Australia we have had these systems since the late 80's. I have found that if you buy a cheap system, the bearings wear out in about 5 years. Better off spending decent money upfront. Then you will get 10 years or more out of the system.
Thanks for sharing we appreciate it!
Hello sir respectfully I don’t think those have Freon anymore. Most likely is refrigerant possibly R134. On the same note I do thank you for doing this videos. I am going to follow your guidance to install one
You are correct, I just say that because most associate with it. Thanks for the comment it does help all of us and let us know how your install goes!
Wow! I need to build six of these. Never thought of laying the 2x4's on the side. Excellent video and thanks!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Why not leave the left factory edge intact and just cut on the right? Ends up being the same anyway.
I subscribed! Thank you. Im goint to install my own someday. Just make sur eto remind others that when they install back that nut after cutting the tubing to insall it the correct way to screw it on and not reverse, I can see peope making that mistake causing them to have to cut off another piece of tubing that can throw off the installation.
Hi Jim! Great video. Do you have any advice on sealing / weatherstripping?
