SOG Powerpint Review - The Good and the Very Bad
If you wanna check it out or buy it amzn.to/3ZsHFkD
The use I mentioned and forgot to go back to is that I'll keep it in my toolbox and use it a super bit holder. In case I can use some of the tools in a pinch that would be great, and if not, it's a good handle for my bits.
This is a review of my SOG Powerpint after two months of use. TLDR: I think it's pretty overrated.

    i have thumb tabs from etsy. it limits the usability of the larger tools but makes them easier to access. when i open one of the larger tools and the rest of the smaller tools come up it allows me to choose which one i want without having to try and pick at them. then i can push out another tool with the thumb tab to unlock the mechanism without having to open the handle every time. the only tool i need to open the handle for is the serrated blade which is no issue for me. even with cut nails i can take out the scissors and flip the tool around with one hand. the entire thing is one hand accessible for me and it's one of the most convenient multitools for me to use. tool wise it actually shares a lot of similarities with my leatherman arc. yeah the steel and tool quality are crap but i still love it and its definitely in my pocket more than anything else.

      Thanks a lot for sharing. I'll check out the tabs. Also, I have no doubt that the vast majority of people seem to find great value in it and hoping that this will make other manufacturers flock to the size and form. More options is better for us 🙂

    I have the CPL 16 preordered and now I'm worried I won't like it once I get it in October. I just want a great EDC bag (non-travel) that I could take my MacBook 14" to most places such as a coffee shop or doctor visits with my kids. I just saw that Tom Bihn released their Synik 26. And while I like the way it is organized, I worry that the side zipper would not easily allow me to insert/remove my 14" MacBook, and also that it might be too large to want to use it as a pure EDC bag. The smaller Synik 22 would have been my preferred choice but the side zipper only allows up to a 13" laptop.

    • @AboutThings_byTarif
      @AboutThings_byTarif 6 дней назад

      Don't have experience with Tom Bihn but got an Aer Tech Pack 3 and loving it so far. Great organization and super comfortable all around. But it's a 14L. Enough for my two big pouch and room for a jacket or third small pouch. It's a great EDC bag and I would buy Aer again if I'm looking for a bigger bag.

  • @errydm
    @errydm 9 дней назад

    If you have done your research thoroughly, you would have not buy this bag in the first place. For instance, did you know that there's also a mirror version of this, meaning you can swing the bag on your right shoulder to get access to the front pocket? Maybe next time, get one from the Bellroy brand. As for me, the cpl24 is one of my favorite bags I own.

    • @AboutThings_byTarif
      @AboutThings_byTarif 8 дней назад

      Research has nothing to do with how comfortable a bag is. I'm just reporting my experience. Also, I wanted to try out a bag that so many people were saying was perfect. Based on my use I don't think it's a perfect bag, far from it actually. I don't care that much about the left facing admin pocket as much as the double orientation experience. I had to try it out for myself because I didn't think it would be that bad. I found it to be worse than I thought. I'm glad you like it. I didn't. And that's fine.

    • @errydm
      @errydm 8 дней назад

      @AboutThings_byTarif by research, I mean that there is a mirror version, e.g. and not how comfortable or not a bag is. As for the front compartment, I knew I won't toss in small items in it because they might fall out. Just use it for other scenarios. The comfort of a bag really depends on the anatomy of the users. Since most people found the CPL24 comfortable, the back panel was designed with success. Is it a perfect bag? Of course not. I don't like that the laptop compartment is way too spacious. Eats up space.

    I think everyone has a different take on what constitutes "edc", and I think people should carry whatever they want regardless of the reason. The only thing that annoys me is when people are trying to push their choices on me, ive straight up had people shame me for walking out of the house without 3 ways to start a fire and pants that turn into a sleeping bag. And im like... dude, im going grocery shopping? If YOU want to carry that, im perfectly fine with that but that does not make me "unprepared" or stupid. If anything I was more optimized for the task than he was haha 😂

    • @AboutThings_byTarif
      @AboutThings_byTarif 12 дней назад

      It's so funny. From both sides people are either telling you to carry less or carry more. As if you're using their own pockets. My carry has varied widely through stages in life. For a few years we had a dog hotel in the countryside and I was the guy with the cargo pants because I needed to be. Now I'm in minimal pocket mode and I felt prepared in both instances. I fully agree with you.

  • @kvernesdotten

    The things that annoy me to no end with this particular tool is that the Power Litre has a lock at the bottom that is super handy for using it as a bit driver, so you dont have to manually hold the pressure all the time. Why cannot this have that? Also the scissors are so useless you are better off using the knife, and might as well not be there at all. And the knife seems to be made out of forged parmesan, as it literally dulls after cutting open a paper feed sack. Give me the lock, a functioning pair of scissors and a better knife steel and I will happily buy this again. For the one I had... I gave it away.

    • @AboutThings_byTarif
      @AboutThings_byTarif 13 дней назад

      Thanks for sharing. I understand the frustration. Parker in the comments said he added magnets to it for exactly that purpose. I'm not sure why it seems that no tool other than Victorinox has figured out the scissors. Are they that complicated??

    • @kvernesdotten
      @kvernesdotten 13 дней назад

      @@AboutThings_byTarif Oh I tried that too with a N52 magnet which I found to be the sweet spot between actually being able to open it and it not opening on its own in my pocket which these are very prone to do, but I didnt really like it because I either had to deal with a magnet that moved around in there or glue it down which I didnt want to do. I have glued a magnet into the bottom of the bit driver in a victorinox cybertool, but at least then its out of the way and wont experience much forces. Scissor geometry is suprisingly complex, yes. Not only do you need the correct angles in the scissor blades and all that, but the line from the pivot to the tip needs to be correct, the blades need to be correctly bent inwards so they rub against eachother exactly the right amount. A good example is the Leatherman Surge vs the Leatherman Micra. Both have very similar looking and comparable size scissors, but the Surge one is generally very good and the Micra is very prone to start "chewing" instead of cutting cleanly. If you put them next to eachother theres some small differences in geometry that seems insignificant but obviously makes a huge difference. You can actually hear the difference in them too, the surge makes a classic scissor sound as it closes and the Micra makes more of a.... chomping sound?

    • @AboutThings_byTarif
      @AboutThings_byTarif 13 дней назад

      @kvernesdotten super interesting about the scissors. Thanks for laying it out. Question about the Cybertool, why add the magnet when the bits are held in by ball detents? I haven't had issues with retention so far with mine.

    • @kvernesdotten
      @kvernesdotten 12 дней назад

      @@AboutThings_byTarif I added a magnet at the bottom of its bit driver because the bits that come with it are standard 4mm bits you can get in any hardware store, but those almost never have a detent. So basically I tossed out the ones that came with it and instead I use iFixit bits that actually fit the things I commonly tinker on. Only downside is that I no longer have double sided bits, but I never used half of them anyway. Also, the bits that come with it is super soft steel, and it will deform the second it cams out (which phillips in particular is notorious for), so having the option to just replace those bits with standardized ones available in stores and amazon is very handy imo. If you want to try, get a neodymium magnet that actually fits laying flat at the bottom (i got a 100 pack for like 10 bucks for a 3D printing project), then use a wooden toothpick because unlike most tweezers its non magnetic so it doesnt stick itself to the inside of the socket, then flip the magnet around until lays properly flat, pour a single drop of super glue down there and done. I tried using the bits to push it down, but the magnet would just come out with the bit every time.

    • @AboutThings_byTarif
      @AboutThings_byTarif 12 дней назад

      Super useful. Thanks a lot for taking the time to explain. My fear was that if added a magnet that would interfere with alignment of the ball and the original bits wouldn't work anymore.

    The pliers and the bit driver are awesome. The rest (ALL the side tools) are trash. A dream multitool would be a partnership between Victorinox and this company where the side tools are at Vic quality. But the pliers (that compound leverage) are awesome.

    • @AboutThings_byTarif

      I would add Leatherman to the mix for the Free locking mechanism. Or Leatherman can just make a fucking tool that size already!

  • @Sgreubel
    @Sgreubel 13 дней назад

    The main steel used by both Roxon and Victorinox is virtually the same- Din 1.4114 (X50CrMov15). But the D2 steel in the Roxon KS2E's main blade will last a lot longer before needing sharpening (see 'Cedric and Ada Gear and Outdoors'). All tools lock on the Roxon is a big win in my opinion. The SAK (Victorinox) scissors has a pointy, thin tip which is the only scissors that can cut off a messed-up fingernail that has an edge split. So I suggest carrying a Victorinox Classic as well as any other knife, including the Roxon KS2E or their 804 Flex model, which is amazing (hint hint)!

    • @AboutThings_byTarif
      @AboutThings_byTarif 9 дней назад

      Thanks a lot for the info! The locking is definitely a huge plus. I miss the finesse of Victorinox scissors honestly. Carried a NailClip 508 with the KS2 as a supplementary tool but getting a bit crowded. After that video I'm experimenting with the Cybertool to see if I would miss the one handed blade and giant scissors of the Roxon.

    Totally agree that the most attractive parts of the PP to me are the size and the 1/4” bit holder. There are plenty rooms for improvement for the tools on the 2 sides. Nevertheless, the PP is still one of the frequently use multitools. Actually, I would say I manage to use one hand to open the PP plier better than the leatherman free p4😅

    • @AboutThings_byTarif
      @AboutThings_byTarif 12 дней назад

      I've found nothing beats the Free P4 in one-handed operation overall. All the tools plus the locking mechanism can easily be operated with one hand. Not surprised that deploying the PP's pliers is easier given the size. I really wish Leatherman would make a PP-sized Free tool.

      Carried the T2 a couple of years back but couldn't do without scissors. Love the form factor and LOVE the locking mechanism of the Free series. The T4 was too big for what I was looking for back then and even if I get it I have a problem with Leatherman scissors. They really need to something about them. Meh - lots of multitools clump. To each their own. For me, the worst part of the Power Pint is the left-handed scissors. But the pliers rock. The file is surprisingly good, the bit driver is nice and the serrated blade is nice to have. With those four tools, it's a GREAT compliment to the Roxon KS2 Elite. Perfect little 2-tool pocket kit. BTW I placed two 10x5x2mm magnets in the tail of my Power Pint. Not only keeps the tool closed, but helps retain any bit in the other end.

      I know that most people are liking it, although people are less likely to put out negative reviews especially if they're trying to grow their channel. I got it as a compliment to the Roxon indeed. But now trying out a completely different setup. It's not just the clumping. The whole thing feels sloppily done when compared to other multitools and I won't even say to Leatherman and Victorinox. The magnets are a nice touch.

    I have the Victorinox compact and the deluxe tinker mostly for the pliers ( and many others) and just got this Roxon Elite. I really like it. I’m trying to decide what will be my EDC at this point. As far as the scissors, if you don’t need precision then the Roxon is just as sharp and has more power. However, when it comes to small precision cuts at the tip of the tool, Vic wins. So I say the scissors are a draw. It depends on the application.

    • @AboutThings_byTarif
      @AboutThings_byTarif 18 дней назад

      I think the best test is to carry it for a few months and see if you find yourself needing the other scissors more. Victorinox definitely makes the more diverse scissors. Carrying both I'd agree with you that it's pretty much a draw. What I miss when I'm not carrying the Roxon is the easy one handed deployment of the blade. Lockable is a plus but not a must for most of my uses. I'm currently giving the Cybertool a try and I'm missing the blade more than the scissors.

      Thanks Fox. I was planning to but I'm not sure I have much to say about my watches other than show them all which I'm not sure people would be interested in that this much. It might be a nice change though from all the pouches and backpacks.

    Hey Buddy! Cool video! What do you mean that deodorant works great? Does it prevent odor under your arms or does it just prevent sweating all together? Ever tried Certain Dry?

    • @AboutThings_byTarif
      @AboutThings_byTarif 23 дня назад

      Thanks a lot! Greatly reduces sweat (not a heavy sweater myself so not sure how it would do with others). Zero odor. Feels fresh, other brands felt like it suffocates the area somehow. I haven't tried it but would give it a shot after I'm done with the current batch. Thanks for the recommendation.

    Just subscribed. Great video. I just ordered the Roxon KS2 Elite. Currently EDC a Nextool Mini Flagship and the scissors are awesome for their size. Wanted something a little bigger. Waiting for this multi tool, actually a little excited. Thank you again for the video.

      Thank you so much. I find the mini Flagship super interesting and think they nailed the plier/scissors mix. The Roxon has a much better blade and better scissors too but no pliers. Overall I think the KS2 is a nicer carry and better in use especially if you use your blade often.

      Thanks! It's fairly simple actually. Works exactly like an airtag and charges wirelessly. I also have one by Ekster that's the same thickness and I think Rolling Square makes one but not sure if it's as thin.

    Hey there, I haven't yet watched the video completely, but I have a request. Would it be possible to make the videos a little bit louder? Compared to other videos, yours tend to be rather quiet and I have to more or less double my speaker volume. That in itself isn't that big of a deal, but it's very easy to forget to turn down the volume afterwards and only to remember when the next video is suddenly unexpectedly loud.

    I'm not sure why you bothered trying the CPL. You conform to the bag. If you have a list of features or design requirements, then you get a bag that suits your needs. Dont purchase a bag that isnt up to your preferences, and then knock it for that.

    • @AboutThings_byTarif
      @AboutThings_byTarif Месяц назад

      I'm not talking about some obscure priority that I had that's bag dependent. Comfort is a basic requirement. A bag requiring me to turn it sideways four times a day is in my mind a design flaw. Part of it is my mistake for not thinking throroughly and just following the heaps of praise thrown on the CPL. The bag in my opinion doesn't suit basic needs. I don't care it's popular, I'm documenting my own exploration of the bag. And I gave reasons for or against buying the bag. I'm not saying no one should buy it but if you care about what I cared about then maybe it isn't for you. I would've made the same video if I had received it as a gift. Here's a bag and here's what I think of it.

    About 2 weeks ago I purchased a Tomtoc Flap Backpack 22L in like an orangey yellow color. With tax came to $66 on sale. Jury is still out, I have another week before I decide if I keep it. Like the style the padding, the closures are nice. Down sides, zippers are not waterproof, and there is no internal organization. I’m not sure that is enough for me to return the bag… As usual enjoyed the video!!

      @AboutThings_byTarif Месяц назад

      I'm super curious about Tomtoc and the bag looks great. I understand why you got it 🙂. I'm thinking of reaching out to them at some point cause I can't afford to buy 75 or 100 dollar bags just for review. I personally don't care all that much about PU coated zippers because I'm not in a rainy place but I can imagine it's a must if you live with rain all the time. I also put everything in pouches so I can let internal simplicity slide. I guess comfort is the main deal breaker for me. Is it comfortable?

    • @Yurihoodjr1975
      @Yurihoodjr1975 Месяц назад

      @@AboutThings_byTarifMy plan is to use it for travel. So the flap and top loading was also a key. I rarely wear it on both shoulders. But when I do it is comfortable. I feel like it needs a sternum strap, but I have a paracord soft shackle that I made for that. I agree on the internal organization I use pouches too.
