I wouldn’t make it gravity fed, too much work for little gain. As for bottom drains I might be tempted to have 2 x 2 3 inch. I’d stay away from two inch because they are easily blocked with string algae. My motto is keep your pond simple. Looking forward to seeing the changes. 👍

Fantastic video guys 👍 an idea if you was to raise the pond and bog filter by 2' say, then slightly stink the nexus to the hight of the bog filter, you could pump from the 2" bottom drain, to a 4" return to the bog filter, back into the pond, especially when your digging out the shelf anyway, the spoil from that can raise the bog garden as well, just an idea guys, keep up the good work 👍

Raise the sides up a metre means you can gravity feed to filter and have a nice window 😅

Why not consider having the pond, say half a meter out of ground, that way the Nexus would only have to go half a meter in ground😀 and that would also increase your water volume quite considerably, would only need a small footing around your existing pound to build on, in what ever material you prefer😀 also possibility of a window, and a low wall is great to sit on when relaxing by the pond😀 you could still have the planted pond raised above this, it does not have to be far above, say 300mm😀

Nice update guys I personally would build up and incorporate a window like your dad’s newly built pond that way you can keep all the bottom drain 4 inch because personally I wouldn’t want to reduce from 4” to 2”. But I’m sure whatever you choose you will do a fantastic job guys 👍

Brilliant ideas! But why not just build up the pond 1m and add a bottom drain? Maybe add a window in!

Have you considered a pump sump box? So bottom drain into say a water butt dug down the 1 metre you would put your filter. Put the pump in the waterbutt to feed your filter. Keep the rest of the filter above ground how it is now.

Nice update. Great ideas too! Can’t wait to see what you do with the pond. I have an above ground sleeper pond with a window. I’m pump fed with a bottom drain. It goes thru a pre filter and I have a float switch so that if the pond gets too low for any reason, it shuts the pump off so it won’t empty the pond. I’d say build up your pond and add a window 😊

Id do a half in half out deep pond in that new area with the nexus right by it. Do it as big as you can otherwise youll only want to do it bigger when they start reaching 60/70cm 😅

Definitely put a bottom drain in you wont look back after wards ... What id do is like u said get the shelves out and get a bottom drain in there .. then id dig a small filter pit and put a seive in there which would be gravity feed then pump to your Nexus this would take the pressure off the nexus with dealing with all the waste and wouldn't be toouch work and the pit would need to be small enough just to fit a seive in ... Look how wrighty filters his pond gravity feed seive to pump feed drum and Bio wpuld be very similar but a seive and nexus

With the current pond depth you’d gain a lot of pond volume, but if you don’t like raised then that’s that… 🤷🏼‍♂️ What if you even raised it, just a foot or so, so that you were still very much looking down in to it, and even be able to sit on the pond coping to view them. Just build a raised gravity fed pond in the location of the existing pond if save on the digging

Great Video again Team Humber Koi Well done👏 I'm no expert far from it but imo I would sink that nexus and go gravity, you could use sleeper or shutter the sides and tbf not that much of a job to dig it out, put a false floor and you will have a seating area keep the bread knife happy at the same time 👍🙏

nice video guys😃 Unlucky on not convincing her who must be obeyed😬 but as they say, happy wife, happy life. I think the issue you could face if you put 2" under the pond is not being able to clear any blockages should any leaf matter etc get stuck🤷‍♂

Why don't you build the existing pond 1METRE above ground with a window or windows this way you can have gravity feed without digging, good space next to pond for filter house.

If you raise your pond you wouldn’t have to dig too deep into the filter shed you could also put what you dig out into the bottom of the pond and then level it off

You could put bottom drain in to a stand pipe were your shower is and from your stand pipe a tea pipe with reduceder to pump to filter. Good luck trying to get the boss on board guys
