    Wow, Wow; even being that close to shore, that incident could have/should have killed you. I'm getting that rush of fear like you get when a stranger gets near a cliff edge. I always felt like flipping the canoe was that easy, and you proved it. I flipped an unstable solo canoe once in a turbulent eddy behind a waterfall in Quetico (Falls Chain). It was June 1st, but I didn't notice the cold until I got back onshore. At first I thought how Stupid, then I realized what actually happened; I'm pretty sure most of us would have the same instinctive reaction for a fishing pole.

    Appreciate the "tip" on how to turn your canoe into a live well!! Life vests or not had you been farther out results may have been different!! Please learn the slip knot, it is easy and it holds and can be released with a yank! I have retrieved two rods/reels by dragging a large Daredevil along the bottom!! Also, in your defense the MN II is designed to carry 600lbs. When empty you bob like a cork and your center of gravity is at your bellybutton! Love your work and remember "keep the open side up". That’s to bad that you lost some equipment but that’s replaceable. A friend of mine and I had a very similar situation a couple of years ago around the 20th of May and the ice came out late that year too. It was extremely cold. Sure made me nervous. I plan to go again this year with some friends but I am concerned about it happening again. It happens so fast

It was quite the shock in the moment with losing the equipment and being freezing for about a day, but it also made us realize we need to change up our approach as well. If you two are newbs and this is your first time up there, this is kind of understandable. Thanks for posting it in honesty. What’s more amazing than the fact that you tipped the canoe is how your gear stayed inside and you made it out without losing more stuff. Why on Earth did you have your cell phones on you? Why wasn’t your gear waterproofed for this scenario? What’s good is, like real men, you are adapting and continuing on.

    • @portagemule
      @portagemule 4 месяца назад

      Certainly was a miracle keeping as much as we did. I had my phone to use the camera for photos and video, and it’s waterproof but it sinks pretty quick lol! Now I have a retainer for it. Almost all of our gear is waterproofed but since we use external mics with the go pros it renders them not waterproof because the battery port has to be open. Works perfect as long as they stay dry 🤦‍♂️ ‼️
