Coyote Gulch Loop | Cross Country Backpacking | Escalante, Utah
This modified Coyote Gulch Loop features all the highlights of the canyon: the striking Jacob Hamblin Arch, an exhilarating 400-foot roped ascent out of the Water Tank/Sneaker Route, Steven’s Arch and adrenaline-inducing Crack in the Wall and more all in one epic 2-day 30-mile backpacking loop.
The cross country portion is necessary to make it into a lollipop loop and allows us to hit the highlights of the trail. This also has an added excitement: the terrain across this portion is uniquely strange and Martian-looking, as most of the route is across large rolling hills of red sandstone. Along the way, add a dash of excitement by crawling under an old cow fence.

Come alone for the ride as we backpack into Salt Creek. We spent two nights, three days backpacking in this scenic canyon. Most of our time was spent cross country traveling and dispersed camping, although we did utilize the trailhead for our initial descent into the canyon and to visit some iconic landmarks ...

Winter Backpacking the Grand Canyon | South Kaibab, Phantom Ranch & Bright Angel
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Год назад
We backpacked the Grand Canyon in February 2022. This was a 2 night, 3 day loop to the bottom of the Colorado River and up again. Daytime temps ranged from 40 to 60 degrees. Nighttime temps dropped below freezing. What we lost in weather we also dropped in crowds! It was like having the whole place to ourselves. This trip was done spur of the moment. We lucked into a stretch off of work while i...

The falls are just as beautiful as I remember. I did Crack in the Wall in my seventies and all that soft sand from 40 Ridge to get back there, but the sight of Stevens Arch was worth it. We're still going at 85 as we did Horse Canyon, Little Death Hollow, and Wolverine back in April. Nice video! 😀😀😀😀😀

Many years ago I was blessed to do this hike as well as exploring the plateau surrounding. Please don’t hurry thru this or other areas of the Colorado Plateau. This is a sacred place..don’t emphasize how you are getting good time. Linger, take your time, explore the ruins, contemplate the trickle of the stream, sink into the beauty of cactus blossoms, even chew a stem of ephedra until you feel a slight boost. Contemplate every pebble…you will never find what this area gives back at the car, regardless of the dinner that awaits.

Much of the rock art in Crow Canyon is Navajo and only several hundred years old. There are some older petroglyphs that are 800 to 1500 years old however. Was there about 12 years ago and going back again next summer.

There is a large ruin in a cliff face. I saw it accidentally. It was inaccessible. I’m not saying where it is… you’ll have to back. Hint:you walked past it more than once. Those lease roads are still in use. I drove a very large loop around the area. There are at least two More ruins on the top.

That looks like so much fun, and great scenery. We backpacking into Owl canyon 35 years ago. We came in from the southeast and went up to the larger pools, I have a photo of a pool that looks larger than the ones that you showed. We climbed up to the arch and sat under it for a little while. We didn't get up in the canyon enough for the difficult scrambling but we did some scrambling up the cliff sides farther down the canyon searching for ruins.

This is kind of funny. I'm a Minnesotan heading out to New Mexico for a trip in two days and had no idea this was a channel by Minnesotans when I clicked on it. I was in NM last year as well and it is truly the land of enchantment. On a humorous note, everywhere I go I end up stumbling across a fellow Minnesotan, its kind of ridiculous, we're everywhere.
