Express Lifts still going strong after over 70 years!

This is an Express Lift from 1953, with another on the estate being from 1951! The controllers on these lifts are still the original ones, meaning they are over 70 years old! These are the oldest Express Lifts with automatic doors that I have ever seen. The motors on these lifts are a belt driven geared machines which resemble an Express ‘A Machine’. ‘A Machines’ were the smallest standard mode...

This is an excellent 1970s Express Lift at the JR Hospital in Oxford! It’s a very heavy duty model with a very large capacity, using 2:2 cabling with a low travel speed. The door operator featured in this Express lift is very unusual. Completely different to the usual type which is found on Express lifts. ⛔️⚠️ It's important to mention the many dangers which are present in lift motor rooms. The...

This is a vintage 1900s Waygood Winding Drum lift which has been modernised by Express in the 1950s/60s! Considering that the mechanical aspects of this lift are a mixture of 120 and 70 year old parts, I think this lift is doing very well! The only recent modification to this lift is the controller being replaced. This would usually be quite a big deal, but in this case it isn’t! The replacemen...
TERRIFYING Old Bennie Lifts! Detailed look

Here we have some TERRIFYING Old Bennie Lifts! These lifts are from 1983, which may seem quite old, but in my opinion they appear much older due to their very bad condition! Bennie Lifts, apart from the controllers, are very similar in design to Express Lifts. In fact, Bennie even used quite a few Express parts on their lifts. Notice the governor at 12:33. Admittedly, there isn’t a whole lot of...

Incredible 1940s Manually Controlled Express Lift - Only One Ever Found!

This lift is incredibly rare and possibly the last of its kind! It’s the only one which has ever been filmed. This is an unknown lift from 1903 which was later modernised by Express, likely sometime in the 1940s. The lift is manually controlled using the ‘crank’ on the car operating panel. The lift automatically levels by its self though, which is really nice! When you let go of the crank, the ...

    • @Lift.Tracker
      @Lift.Tracker 16 дней назад

      @@Bombiedude. Yeah, that’s a very good point! The lifts home back down to the bottom floor after every use, and they open and close the doors every time. So basically it enters its self a normal car call back down. So I think that has something to do with it. I think on the ground floor, when you press the call button while the lift is already there, it uses the same part of the logic circuit as if you just pressed ‘door open’ from inside. The door open button has a no open timer also.

    @Abdur-Rehman 2 месяца назад

    One of the lift seems to have an original controller as when you hold down the lift button for another floor before the lift has finished levelling. It will just move straight away to the other floor, but the other one won’t do that it will finish the call and open the doors.

    • @Lift.Tracker
      @Lift.Tracker 2 месяца назад

      @@Abdur-Rehman They’re both running on the original controllers from 1953. One of them just has a slight fault with one of the timers which would normally prevent that. :-)

  • @Abdur-Rehman
    @Abdur-Rehman 2 месяца назад

    Still original, I went there with my drop key and got straight in, but residents are complaining that the lift breakdown often, and sometimes the inner door fails to open the outer door

    • @Lift.Tracker
      @Lift.Tracker 2 месяца назад

      @@Abdur-Rehman That’s interesting how that’s happening. Wouldn’t usually expect that with the way which Express’s door design works. I can guess that either the wheels on the drive block (door lock) are extremely worn out, or the lock on the retiring cam isn’t engaging or is removed, meaning the cam is just springing back in when pressure is applied, meaning it loses grip on the outer door. Still a strange thing to happen by its self.

  • @Bombiedude.

    • @Lift.Tracker
      @Lift.Tracker 2 месяца назад

      @@Bombiedude. Glass lifts were still fairly new at this time, and throughout the 1980s there were some very decorative designs for them. These being from the 90s is a continuation of that trend. Nowadays though, they don’t really make anything fancy with glass lifts which is a shame. It’s mainly all about making it as cheap as possible, and also with ‘mininaliam’ being trendy making things have little design to them.

    The height of those buttons! Certainly wouldn't make it like that these days. You'll probably hate me for saying this - but this is one instance where I would actually support a modernization. Doesn't have to be full, but maybe just the addition of a second button panel at a lower high for wheelchair users (maybe one of those Horizontal ones, perhaps?). Make no mistake, it's a fantastic old lift, and amazing to see one still original like this. But I also appreciate why modern disability access requirements are a thing.
