I got the impression that this game is set pre-Lumiose City, as the whole trailer was one big blueprint. Obviously building a huge city would upset the existing ecosystem, which would draw the attention of Zygarde.

Yeah, i also agree it will be set in the future, since that makes the most sense, from a logical standpoint, in terms of the Zygarde cores/forms and new Mega Evolutions, especially since they already kinda delved into the future in either SM or USUM (Cannot remember which one, but that doesn't really matter in this context anyways). Since we are redeveloping Lumiose City, they can indeed incorporate the area's you mentioned in the new city, but they can also relocate the Battle Chateau and the Day-Care to Lumiose. If its indeed set in the near future (I think a 10 year gap between XY and Z-A is not to far out of this world), it would be interesting to see which XY characters we are going to see outside of Bonnie/Clemont/Sycamore/Sina/Dexio. Like... Trevor should be a given as well... considering he actually lives in Lumiose. They can even make it so Alexa relocated to another region and Trevor replaced her and Tierno wants to build his Fighting Dojo/Dance Studio in Lumiose as well, so he can also show up. What they might do with the protagonists might also be interesting, like... we know Wulfric has children, so they can use them as protagonists (But they can also obviously give us new ones).

nothing can make this an amazing game for me personally. Being an action RPG is a big red flag for me. And mega evolution makes me dislike the game even further. Being set in a single city is a downgrade to PLA which had multiple areas. And yet, they going with one city in this game? So far I am not happy about this game and whatever new info we get later on probably won't even change my thoughts about ZA.

I think Lumiose is one of 2 cities in the entire Pokémon franchise that you could make a whole game based on. The other being Castelia in Unova, but Paris just has so many important things that you can expand for a game. Obviously the Eiffel Tower but there's the Catacombs, the Louvre, the Arc de Triumph, even Notre Dame. If the Legends series of games is meant to make a Pokémon game that's just different then this decision was easily one of the best they could've made.

I think Lumiose air space is another potential component that is possible Encounter Flying Pokémon on top of the tall buildings and in the air with your air ride Pokémon Also Sky Battles Since XY has a roaming Legendary bird maybe it's how you'll encounter it in PLZA in the sky

I mean Paris is one of a handful of world cities that one could spend a whole lifetime in and never see it all (like nyc, Tokyo, Istanbul, MDF, etc) so a Pokemon game set "only" in a city, especially one like Paris, makes perfect sense. Especially in a future tense where maybe humanity's cities are more in tune with nature. It really just depends how deep the pokemon company wants to be

Since Legends arceus was in the past. SV dealt with Pokémon from past and future. DLC 1 was set in kitakami for its ancient custom DLC 2 in blueberry for its new high-tech school Legends ZA being in the future would make sense IMO

I think focusing on just the city is a good thing. It’s a smaller scope that allows GameFreak to fully flesh out the city, something that was lacking with the cities and towns in SV. Plus it could help them with scope for the next game. I’ll take a smaller world if it is fully fleshed out over what we got in SV, which felt lacking to me

Yamabuki City would also be a great hub world for the Kantō Pokémon games, once there are anime aesthetics and gameplay that captured what Pokémon is about.

Hot Take I don’t think they should ever explain the ghost girl. IMO it takes away the point. Stuff like ghost girl are just meant to fun little spooky encounters. The mystery is the point. It’s like a “real” paranormal encounter where something unexplained happens and your mind is left to wonder. Unexplained mysteries like that can actually add to the world building.

It could be set entirely in a city but I don't think we'll never leave it. There has to be wild areas somewhere. I think the base of operations will be in Lumiose but I doubt it'll be just city and nowhere else lol I can't see how that you would work.

I believe that the core way to get Pokemon will be through the 5 plazas. In X and Y they were just circles with grass in a pokeball pattern with a monolith in it to tell you where you are, but in the trailer ( 1:01 in this video), the plazas have more to it. From the schematic I suppose the top center could be a lush green park for forest pokemon, the top left looks like a lake for pokemon found in or near water, bottom right looks like generators that could house electric and steel pokemon.

Personally I think the game is gonna include a spin on the Paris Catacombs, maybe not a catacomb exactly but I can imagine something like it coming into play. Perhaps at the end of these catacombs you could find one of the legendary's or mythical pokemon like Diancie or Hoopah.

I hope they include all of Kalos as a regional whole, instead of just isolating their focus on Lumiose City. I just enjoy exploring the region (whether they have cities modernized or not), and how the landscape looked back then compared to how it looks in modern times. It's interesting to see how things came to be, the way that they are/were.

Strongly agreed about the potential of the game’s city setting! I feel like people keep overlooking the fact that they obviously chose the setting for a reason - they obviously have several ideas in mind for how they want it to work, and it’s not like they chose it on a whim.

They can basically make Lumiose City like the Terraium from Blueberry Academy in the Indigo Disk. There were 4 different Biomes you can go to. There's a Savanah Biome, Polar, Beach and Canyon biomes. Or they can do something what Legends Arceus did with 5 huge areas to explore. The Obsidian Fieldlands: A whole fields area. The Crimson Mirelands: a bog/swamp area. The Cobalt Coastlands: A coastal beach like area. The Coronet Highlands: A snowy mountain area. And the Alabaster Icelands: a whole Tundra area. So I'll be honest I would take any of those two ideas. Your idea is also a really fun idea to do 🤔😁😁

I agree. Having a game set in the city, we’d get a game that’s more dense (improvement from Paldea) and more developed and full of people (improvement from Hisui). It also means worst case scenario when they make another ‘wilderness’ game they’ll have an idea of what does and doesn’t work

I’ve seen a lot of people question how the crater could have been created millions of years ago, but I think it’s entirely possible. In ORAS, it’s explained that the ultimate weapon caused a timeline split: one where the war happened and Mega Evolution was created, and another where it didn’t. If the ultimate weapon had enough energy to split time itself into different realities, why couldn’t that energy also break time entirely, causing an explosion in the past around 1,000,000 years ago? Area Zero already shows signs of temporal instability, which is why the Time Machine was built there. The AI Professor even mentions that they can only remain within the lab due to these temporal effects. In Scarlet, this instability allows for a connection to the distant past-possibly the time when the crater was first formed-while in Violet, it connects to a future millions of years ahead. What if the ultimate weapon’s energy fractured time so drastically that it caused effects in both the past and future? In Violet, this could explain why there are only cybernetic Pokémon, as they may have been the only ones able to survive the catastrophe. Some argue that the ultimate weapon’s energy would have created the crater in the present. However, if time travel in Pokémon follows rules where changes in the past retroactively affect the present, then AZ might have fired the weapon only to see a crater that seemed to have always existed. If the weapon was powerful enough to create a timeline where an entirely different past exists, who’s to say what kind of temporal effects it could have caused?

I feel like this can work. As a kid playing Y, I just assumed Lysander was alive because we don't explicitly see him die, and we have seen characters like Ash and Stoutland have Canon deaths in the anime. A friend did help explain the implications that they died, though, but maybe that weird guy behind Neo Team Flare is still in kahoots with Lysander. At the supposed time of death, he was still wearing the controls for the ultimate weapon. Maybe he used the feature of eternal life to save himself. Maybe he modded it to have FaceTime with creepy henchman. Maybe creepy henchman makes Lysander aware of the death allegations so they can regroup a few years later. Maybe a few years later is when Z-A happens, and Lysander is revealed to be the big bad guy later in the plot like X and Y. But as Pinky Pie would say, "it's just a hunch."

References to other Pokemon media should always be taken with a chunk of salt. Just because something happened in the anime or manga, doesn't mean it'll happen in the games.

If it's set after x and y he will have been dug up by accident when they were trying to clean up the wreckage of the ultimate weapon. I want ZA set in the past and the weapon somehow made him a faller or he fell right before the weapon would have hit. Edit to be clear I don't think I'll be right about either of these things, just what I'd do if I was in charge and was required to bring him back. I'd rather his evil ass stayed buried but immortal and trapped forever as punishment for what he tried to do.

I rather Lysandre didn't return. I feel his story had been concluded and there isn't really a good reason to bring him back. It would just feel forced if Lysandre shows up in ZA.
