We're a crew of lifelong buddies who just couldn't put a good story down. We love crafting films about the outdoor experience. The people. The places. The pursuits.
But there's also adventures and journeys that we're dying to share. Like the time that Ben and George got stranded on an uninhabited island while trying to catch bonefish. Or the time Dan dropped into 400 feeding tuna, and left with only a headache. Or especially the time (every time) where we took what we had, made the best out of it, and adventured as far as we could.
So while we're just a crew of friends from Alabama, we publish tales from Colombia, Alabama, Mexico, Louisiana… anywhere adventure is found.

Fly Fishing for Bonefish and Tarpon at a Brand New Lodge in Mexico
It's no secret at all that the Yucatan is one of our favorite places on earth.
It could be our addiction to great tacos. It could be our infatuation with tarpon. Or it could be the fact that you can do almost anything in fly fishing... right there.
So when we got the call of a lifetime -- would we go down and film the opening of a new lodge -- Tail Inn... we already were packing our bags.
In Episode 3, George and Fields recount a day well spent on foot. From redemption bonefish to a team that just won't leave a man (or a fish) behind. This one has all the laughs and fish that we as a crew appreciate.

How to Make a Fly That's Ready for Tailing Bonefish and a Whole Host of Saltwater Species
Beautifully done video. I understand the excitement and anxiousness you may feel when chasing birds through the sky but I think if you slow down your shots and focus on making a really good first shot that you might find more success. Dont forget to keep swinging the gun while youre shooting and dont look at the bead of the gun, look at the tip of the ducks beak and find your lead! Been duck hunting with my dad and grandfather since before I have my own memories and every bit of success comes from slowing things down. y family hasn't had a duck dog in a few years after putting our last one to rest, I feel that im finally ready to love another dog again and ill be picking up the next generation on March 17 this year!!!
Thanks so much! We’ve thankfully gotten into the duck ponds a bunch this season (2025) and you’re spot on about the shooting tips. The urge to shoot quick, leads me to always be behind the birds. Which… leads to missed shots. And congrats about the newest member of the family! I absolutely love the puppy stage. Seriously, thanks for the kind words and constructive feedback! Really appreciate it.
@@dorsaloutdoors Its my pleasure. looking forward to more updates!
Fantastic! I'm trying to figure out this RUclips stuff. Used AI to give me a title and happens to be something similar to yours. Watched Series one and start on series 2. Who do I find? Tuck! Nolan has mentored my son and I trained Tuck some too! small world
Such a small world! Nolan is a champ- he not only helped Riggins get in shape for the series, he’s been dynamite behind the camera too. Awesome to see the Alabama-Alabama connection here too. Let’s collab sometime soon!
What rods are you guys using for the Tuna? Hard to know how it would hold up if you didnt hook one but ive heard of a few 12wts getting busted on yellowfins.
Some folks who fish em said you could get away with a 10wt and thats... a lie. The biggest issue is that tuna run down, not out; so it puts a fly rod in the least advantageous position of lifting. We found even a blue water 14wt wasn't really that great. It was more of waiting for the fish to tire, and then hand-cranking them up. Recently, George has tried the "line-lift" with Jack Crevalle, which really seems to work when a fish is sitting under the boat (you point the rod at the fish, and literally lift the whole rig, carefully judging the line strength). So maybe that would work with a 12? Regardless... nothing works for Dan.
You'll get one next year! Loved this video.
Thanks! Mighttttt have some news about that soon
These three clowns are so concerned in trying to be cool that it makes for a waste of viewing time.
This is just incredible. The story, the editing. Incredible. Please tell me someone at @meateater has seen this. Cal???
Great story. I just recently started duck hunting with my 1 year old lab and 23 year old son. One thing I’ve learned. It’s not about the ducks. It’s about spending time with a great dog, family, and friends.
It's funny -- as we film the finale of the series right now, we actually talked about this. The car rides, the camp coffee, the breaking down the day... those are the biggest wins. The ducks are just a side benefit.
I’m invested in this story man. I’m not sure if you have ever heard of Taylor Creek in Theodore Alabama, but they do bird hunts and guys volunteer to take their retrievers over there for those hunts. It’s a great training opportunity and a great way to network with some good retriever owners.
Thanks! We haven't-- but looking them up now. Thanks for the pointer.
Man this was so fun to watch and brought a smile to my face. great job guys! I hope to get my Bird dog on some real birds one day.
Thanks y'all! Let's get him up here soon. Need to get all the new ones together!
God bless this video
Microslam! ✊🏼
Only the real ones know!
Great video! How many weeks did you train with Riggins before his first hunt? I have a 4 year old golden who shows natural instinct like this but I always figured it was too late and he needed to be trained young.
Thanks! We procrastinated too much if I'm being honest -- starting in November and doing the first hunt late December. (Through that time we did the shotgun test, daily retrieval practice, etc) What made it work was Riggins' instincts. It was really more about unlearning some behaviors that were perfectly fine as a family dog, and adapting those to small pond duck hunting. With each "checkpoint" it ratcheted up the pressure/activity, knowing we were going to have a chance.
Loved the video, just missed a few things you said because of the audio that needs to be balanced. What a good dog! He looks just like my lab -gunner. Hope there will be an update next season!
Thanks, we'll get the audio dialed in for the next one! And yes-- we're currently in the Alabama woods filming now...
Nice catch and Jesus loves you all
I’m in NE Alabama if you want to contact me we can get your boy a bird this season for sure be a little drive for ya but we can find some more productive spots for you and your boy.
Thanks, Josh! We'll follow up with you via email. Really appreciate it because it does look like north Alabama gets a different push of birds than we do down here!
Coolest inshore fly species imo. Beautiful fish, beautiful footage.
i catch bonefish here in san diego ca all year its so fun but its blind casting for them in 8 to 10-15 of waters... best part is its just a 12 min drive ... most bone are 12 to 15 inch but i caught one that was 21 inch max is what they seem to get ... fun on 6wt and super light spinning reels
That first run is smoke!
👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏🥰🥰🥰🥰
Great vid
It's really just all about the dog anyway... Good work
Thanks!
Feel your pain! Second😂 week of Aug 2024, Full Moon, Venice, 111 heat index, guide does not believe in lunar tables. In three days, partner four Black Drum, five Reds and me ZERO! Partner casting a shrimp fly and I’m casting a chartreuse dragon fly imitation ? The guide highly recommended…with no barb…the last day the lunar table said peak feeding 0735 to 1025. Partner caught his fifth on the schrimp.😮Me, I had managed to snatch the fly out of mouths of three slots and lost a big bull in the rollers at the mouth of a ditch and the gulf when she made a run straight at me. I could not strip fast enough to keep the slack out. That’s when I discovered the barbless hook. At 1100, the bite was off. That afternoon neither of us could tempt anything. Yep, it was a Curse.
Isn't it funny? One of THE most fish-rich environments in the US (and maybe the world? ) and she still finds way to humble us on a daily basis!
I’ll bet that when you were chasing down those Tuna, you unknowingly had a banana 🍌 on the boat. Nice entertaining vid.
Don't worry-- with Dan? There's no need for a banana. He's cursed straight out the gate!
Great video! Currently training my 1 year old chocolate lab!
Thanks! Good luck out there-- Riggins was ready for the Alabama opener this year. The ducks? not so much.
I don't know why people don't give more love to the JC ... they are literally the GT of the Atlantic and gulf. Awesome fish

Thanks Aaron! It was a fun moment to capture
I just got a fox red lab puppy, she is 9 weeks old and I've been feeling like not getting into duck hunting would be a huge disservice to her. Now RUclips recommends this.....rip my bank account lol
Haha for Riggins and company we’ve actually kept it bearable! Public land+ discount shells + lots of self training… way cheaper than fishing so far!
@ there's hope for me! lol I'm also a fishing only person, btw this doc was awesome, I was so emotionally invested in Riggins!
You had me at "Lynard Skynyrd & jean shorts"...awesome video, really enjoyed it
That's what's awesome about Matt Lewis-- he gets the fly fishing community, but also knows why these Alabamian fish hit different
This was awesome. I started training my chocolate lab named Ruger at 2 years old. We both went duck hunting for the first time in 2020 and this video is exactly how it went.😂 2021 was the season he got his first retrieve and from there it was on my shooting skills got better and he got more patient and quiet. I actually went hunting with some guys i know and they complimented how well he behaved compared to some professionally trained dogs. I hope you and Riggins get that first retrieve its the best feeling in the world when every comes together. Good luck brother 🤙
Thanks, Cody! We're counting down the days to November 29, because it does feel like all the pieces are there. Just need a little bit of luck..
Love it, I love to his instincts come to life. As primarily a wing shooter/waterfowl hunter for me there's nothing like watching a bird dog doing what they love to do. Thank you again for sharing your story. Go Riggins!
Glad you enjoyed it! It was really cool to get a win and has us excited for what's next.
Amazing story thank you for sharing. if I may as a shooting instructor offer some advice, slow down, the shells that you are shooting are probably pushing out pellets close to 900 MPH, so use your eyes first lock on the bird's beak or something outstanding on the bird, like a color on its neck or head, then get into your gun, match the speed of the bird with your swing of the gun while looking at nothing but the bird and trust your hands to get the gun where it needs to be before pulling the trigger. Don't rip off three shots in a row without having some type of visual connection to the bird. Riggins will thank you for it.
Really appreciate this. And it's funny you mention the "slow down" part because I've been doing a lot of clay work this summer and that's been the key. Not rushing the shot, pinpointing an area, and pacing. Now, not going to boldly proclaim it's all "fixed" haha but there's a chance.
@@dorsaloutdoors don't hesitate to reach out if I can ever be of any help. Go Riggins!
wonderful write up! thank you for that
my pointer mix is 10 yo. every one says its too late to get him there but seeing this 7 yo lab pick it up like this gives me hope I can give him the experience he was bread for.
And he'll honestly just love the adventure and "going" part. That's what was so cool about all this.
Nice. Good anecdote on those baby poon. 😂 Saludos Pepo!

Thanks! Really appreciate it. Totally agree
Good stuff! Another good one boys

Epic bone fish bite! Good job guys. To bad about those tarpon but seemed to make a funny fishing story to remember!
It *feels* like Dan and David deserved to not catch any tarpon after all that… so we’re cool with it 😂
Genuine question. What do yall do to be able to go and do this? It’s a dream of mine.
To be honest, it's a crazy mess of a story. About a decade ago, we bought a camera off of eBay to bring home some of our memories. (At that point we were doing DIY, sleep-in-airport trips that could be paid for with a tax refund and some travel points hacking). That camera ended up helping us land some cool images, that then got us in touch with a really talented filmmaker (our Belize video has the full story). That then led to us to dreaming up fishing films produced by ourselves (still, hacking travel costs, staying in $30 a night ecolodges, etc) which honestly? busted. We got rejected all over the place. We then re-calibrated, and focused on stories that we cared about. And there is where we started to get a little bit of traction. A photography gig here, a social media spot there. But still was a trickle and we just kept trying new things. For the next 5 years, we'd take one trip a year that we all could afford, but started to be able offset some travel (airfare) with some of the video/photo work we were doing. It truly wasn't until this project here, when we were able to leverage our talents to go and experience a full fly fishing lodge. It was a dream come true for us and we're extremely blessed and humbled by opportunities like this. But it hasn't been overnight. It's been an iterative 10 year process, with an unreal amount of setbacks.
