The later model with the LED displays, and touch buttons were in most every coffee shop in my area. Denny's had them. Disneyland was one of the amusement parks which had them as well. I owned one which I bought from the area Computer Salvage yard in Gardena, California. Cleaned it up, repaired the PC board. The voltage/current padding resistors for the 7-segment LED displays were mounted too close to the PC board and the epoxy/glass board would become burned, then causing the copper traces to peel. I found and knew the gentleman who owned the Bio-Rhythm business here in California. He had a warehouse space which was part of the post office where he lived. I wish I could remember which city that was in. This in the mid to late 1990s. The print out cards were a bit different in that they had a few more colors printed on the card stock as a background. I seem to remember it was cyan and yellow. The cards were no longer on a roll, but fan folded into a cardboard box of several thousand, which saved on the cardboard rolls, packing etc. The peak points were written with a ball point pen filler. I remember he explained, there was some extensive research done to find a ball point pen filler which would operate until the ink ran out and didn't fail prematurely. The pinned printer with the solenoids (dot matrix) print the day/date you select and and your birthdate on outer edge of the card (long side). It was still a 25 or possibly 50 cents to create/print a Bio-Rhythm card. I do not remember exactly. I installed the one I had in a new Irish/British restaurant/bar dance club in West Los Angeles named "Scruffy O'Shea's". I worked for a pro-sound and lighting company at the time (Sound Unlimited Systems in North Hollywood, CA). Placing it in the establishment at the time was easy as I knew the owners. The first week it was plugged in and turned on it made something in the neighborhood of $35-50 gross. After a few weeks though it's novelty wore off and it was then making about $10 a week. The approaching problem though was the software and calendar EPROM on the main control PC board. The calendar data ended in 1999 and would no longer be accurate beginning in the year 2000. The owner of the business was searching for someone to write a new calendar. The bids he received (from my foggy memory) started at $2500 or more.
Edit: At the time it was about 5 to $6000 have the code rewritten. This didn't include the cost of new EPROM ICs for each machine which must be replaced/updated.
Additional Edit: Bio-Rhythm Sales. The gentleman's name was Glenn Wolcott. His office/warehouse was located in Verdugo City California.
I’ve never done the Country Bear Jamboree in WDW, but I did do the one on Morey’s Pier in the 80s. I loved Chuck E. Cheese but these animatronics are awesome!
I hope you can get those tapes spooled on a reel to reel & captured digitally soon. Even that one which looks broken may just be where the splice originally was.
@@Mrshoujo whatever they are, I am happy with them just that way. These sounds were never perfect back in their day, but we Guests who experienced the fun didn't care to not pick and analyze... We were there for FUN! No defects of anything made any difference to us. There is way too much focus on nothing today, and all the basement experts know better. I don't think a wonderful place like the palace could satisfy the general public today. There would be plenty of people coming to look, and pull out their phones to take pictures so they can be big shots on social media, but these same people wouldn't be there to actually experience the Palace. I get this nonsense all day everyday at my retro arcade, which is the prime reason I established a no cameras policy, so people would just be there to play and enjoy the experiences... But instead, they defy the posted rules, argue with you when told something is not permitted, and came with no intention of actually playing games. The world has lost its way. These tapes are a good example of what I mean.
This is amazing. I’m an audio engineer/producer, and as much as I love just hearing about it, my wife is a librarian at Rice University. I’ve suggested the topic to her, because she does a lot of material on aging media.

My friends!!! I was filled with so much sorrow when Major Magics closed down. A lot of my childhood had been robbed from me, and hearing that an old place of comfort I used to frequent was also gone really hit me hard. I had always wanted to know what happened to the animatronics, and felt so awful thinking about what may have happened. Seeing them again has brought me a joy I have not felt in a long long time. Thank you for being so kind to them! You have no idea how happy that makes me, and I know that it was no easy task! Thank you so much for giving them life again and allowing folks to see them in video form! Might have to make a trek out to NJ one day to see them. (:
@@sharka7145 major magic remained open after they removed the show. Not sure how long, but they didn't close at the same time. It really sucks when places we live close, but from what I have seen and personally experienced through my 45 years of operations on the boardwalk is that places close most always because of lack of patronage. There can be other reasons like lease on the property not being renewed, or owners getting old or sick, but typically it is economics. Wildwood is a shore resort and lots of long history which people talk about constantly... I hear people fondly speak about things and places which are long gone now, and how great they were, and they should bring that back... But if all those people had supported those places with their continued patronage, those places would likely still be there.artifacts from these places in display in my retro arcade, and people enjoy coming to look at them... But these very same people do not spend any money and play our games... Maybe they are not gane players, but we also have donation boxes, and needless to say almost none of these people put any money in those boxes. There is no admission to come, and they take everything for granted that we will be around gir them to come see all the things the next time they visit. When comes the time we are gone, they will miss everything being there, but it is they themselves who didn't help us to continue being there because they didn't care enough to support the operations with their money. Bills keep going up, and income goes down; that's the simple fact. I am getting older, and soon I will not be able to do all the work I do; I don't get paid, do there is no money to hire someone else to do the work. So the facts are that time is running out, and all I have preserved will be gone in a matter of time. I tried for decades to get things set up as a Museum with a non profit foundation so it could live on, but people simple don't care enough to provide the funds required. I still have hope, but I see the facts, and know how the story likely ends. Sorry to tell such a sad story, but it is necessary to understand things as they are sometimes. Hold onto memories because they are the best. I have many

I wonder if those could be opened up and transferred to a reel tape guide and played on a reel-to-reel player/recorder and archived that way. Then a sound tech could clean it up.
@@stormspottertodd I am certain it's only a matter of track alignment

Cats are soooo pretty!
I think it might be cool if you digitized all those tapes, and restored the audio with an audio editor to get it clean. You might partner with someone who does audio remastering, and then created an a digital audio library with some sort of controller for replaying those sounds. I think the reason it was done inside a central room, was because the equipment was at the time very bulky, and it was cheaper to run a speaker cable out to where the sound effect was played and the central room made it easier for technicians to change or update the audio effects by swapping the tapes.

Thanks for the 3 part story. It's a tale I'll remember for life.
Hello, I am a huge mechanical music fan. I saw in a few of your videos you focused on your Wurlitzer 153 band organ “Merry Ann”. I tried looking for it last year, but did not find it when visiting the Wildwood boardwalk. Do you have it out displayed for the public to see in your arcade? I would love to know more about it. Also, the organ playing near the outside of your arcade, what type of band organ is it? I am genuinely curious. I would really love to know more about both your band organs. And are there more organs you have at that arcade? I would love to go see them this year.
@@catfromcatoonsart things change in the arcade operations from year to year. Sometimes things that people like to come look at become not visible because too many people come to "look at them"... We must always remember the Retro Arcade is a place where people should be coming with the goal and purpose of playing the arcade games. When people come for ANY other purposes, they are not supporting the continued operations of the Retro Arcade which only survives with the patronage of people who are there to play our games. Those quarters, as megar as they may be in today's world with today's inflated prices on everything which includes our operations costs, barely add up to enough to keep our doors open... Sadly, those who come to see things like band organs, rarely support our efforts to stay in business as they spend little or no money at all, simply because they did not come solely for the purpose of playing the games in the Arcade. There is no price for admission at the Retro Arcade, although there certainly should be, and we can only rely upon the decency of our visitors to support our operations with their patronage. Unfortunately, when we encourage "looking" instead of "playing", we are expecting too much from visitors when we think they will understand that this is a "business" which cannot survive on people coming to look at things for free. Perhaps someday, in a forum where there is a general admission charge for people to come look at things, then things to look at will be more available to look at, but under the current circumstances this is not possible.
