Valebridge Model Railway - The Event Horizon
Великобритания
Добавлен 2 янв 2017
Welcome to Valebridge Model Railway.
A mainly modern era layout but anything goes on the track here! It's a twin level, 6 track OO gauge layout under construction. It spans 2 rooms and is around 33' long in total. One room's layout section is 10'6" wide and the second section is 8'6"wide, both with a common centre walkway/access area.
I don't run the layout proto-typically necessarily; I enjoy the railway in all its combinations. It is run for fun rather than fussing over absolute specifics. (Sorry to all the railway modelling obsessives and purists out there!)
I am a novice layout builder and a novice RUclipsr too so bear with me as I get to grips with it. I'm sure there will be many mistakes along the way and many surprises!
All comments are welcome and will be read, good, bad or indifferent.

I like how you turned the "fiddle yard" into an actual part of the layout. I always thought it was such a waste of space to just have unfinished tracks. Great video, enjoyed it a lot.
Thanks so much for the comment and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, the storage tracks might as well be on view and form part of the layout, it seems a pointless waste not to! Regards Julian
So glad I said Haitch now 😂 on seeing this and definitely liked this newer intro. Great run 👍
Thanks ....?... matey! I don't know your name! Regards Julian
@@theeventhorizon-valebridge9512 it’s Andy. Thanks for asking 🙏
Excellent running session and layout Julian, lovely long rakes as well ATB to you.Stuart
Thank you for your kind comments Stuart, much appreciated. Regards Julian.
How can you afford that many ? They're about £40 each !!
Who said I can actually afford them! I picked them up secondhand in various batches of a few at a time generally. It's a stupidly expensive hobby, but I don't waste money on other vices which many do! Hopefully they'll keep their value as the RRPs increase.
wow, very impressive!
Very impressive layout . How big is it ?
Hi, thank you. it's 33' and 10'6" at its widest. There is some details in the description. Regards Julian
Fantastic running session. Not many layouts can get away with running full length trains. Absolutely great layout 👌
Thank you very much, Steve I presume, much appreciated. The layout has a long way to go as it's in mid build, but it's getting there slowly. Lots of detail and rollingstock weathering to do too! Regards Julian
Wow! 🤩 excellent running session Julian, enjoyed the running trackside shots and the 37 looked very comfortable hauling those TEA wagons , all the very best for the new year, cheers Darrell
Thanks Darrell, glad you enjoyed it.Those Revolution TEAs, although weighty, they are really free running and have metal axle hub inserts/bearings so they can be pulled by anything really. Yes, all the best, regards Julian
Excellent stuff, the track level shots in particular I liked 👍🏻
Ive just come across this edition. Impressive to say the least. I'm a steam modeller myself, but appreciate anything for what it is. Enjoyed it that much I've subbed. 👍👍👍👍
Thank you Robert, good to have you onboard. The layout is evolving and nearer a reasonably completed state now so there should more time to video the trains, rather than just building the layout all the time. Regards Julian
@@theeventhorizon-valebridge9512 Thank you, I shall have fun trying to catch up I think 😊😊
That tower block looks great. Looks the right size which helps
Lovely to see a new video and progress, glad you're still working on it all! Regards, Chris
Cheers Chris. Yes, it's been a while but I'm getting there ....On with the never ending task that is a model railway! Hopefully more videos very soon too. My two laptop computers have been playing silly buggers so editing has been rather challenging! I've got more footage to release, it's just whether I can get the technology to run without seizing mid edit! My old laptops are showing their age..🤔...Just like I am! Regards Julian
Nice work on the tower block, there's some dedication and patience right there !! Brilliant result 👏 Crackin' running session as well 👍 superb.
Outstanding modelling I’m inspired, any chance of a full layout tour from above in the future?
Thank you. There's some chance of an overhead tour in the future....I'm currently making some scenic changes so not quite yet, it will be after they're done.
Amazing running session with those TEA wagons, they’ve got a bit of weight to them, I see what you mean about the scalescenes office building it’s mahoosive Julian ! Great job on a fantastic layout , hope you had a great Christmas and all the best for the new year 🎉 cheers Darrell
Thanks Darrell. Yes, it' sure is a flaming great monster! Bleedin' humongous! I'm currently making some scenic changes so there'll be a closer-look update video in the future...Hope you're having a great festive break too. Regards Julian
@@theeventhorizon-valebridge9512 nice one will look forward to seeing your progress 👍
The Colossus certainly has some presence on the layout, very impressive work 👍🏻 Great running session too 🙂
Where do you get the sound file?
It came with the loco when I pre-ordered it direct from Dapol as none of the retailer's pre-order options came sound fitted. Regards Julian
Ah ok, thanks for letting me know
It is a problem for modern image modellers that without catenaries the representation is not prototypical.
Indeed. The layout is still under construction. If you look at more recent episodes you'll see that there are gantries all around the top level now. I won't be installing any power cables as it makes track maintenance too tricky. All the footage taken is just of testing things out on the layout as I go, rather than anywhere near a finished and representative view. Regards Julian
Absolutely stunning! A really subtle blend of colours that combines seamlessly with the backscene. I particularly like the shot at 8:20!
Hi, that's a lovely layout. I've watched a couple of your videos, and like what you are doing. I'm looking forward to watching how the layout progresses in the future. All the best Dave.
Many thanks for your comments Dave, that's very kind of you to say, much appreciated. I'll try and do another episode soon! Regards Julian
Great!
Great modells, great modell railway, have a great deal of fun with it.
Do you know how many coaches you need for a full rake. I have coaches A-F but I see a 7 coach rake in real life and such. There’s no G coach that I’m aware of. Could u help me out?
I'm afraid I have no detailed knowledge of the specifics of real life rakes. I just run the trains for fun and know very little about the facts as to what's prototypical, sorry! Regards Julian
Hello, awesome layout and channel. I subscribe now. 😃👍
A really great update, thanks for sharing, interesting your way of connecting the track to DCC
Thank you. It would be much harder to surface jumper the tracks together without it showing if I was using cork underlay or no underlay at all. The foam underlay allows you to easily hide the wiring in it by cutting a slit, it's very concealing and forgiving! As you see, once the ballasting is done it disappears, buried underneath. The track rails are a ready made busbar so a separate bus wire circuit underneath the base board isn't necessary. Regards, Julian
Nice changes. Hope it works out for you. Best to get it done before ballasting.
Thank you Susannah, it seems to have worked well, no derailments at all so I'm glad I made the trackwork changes. Regards Julian
I just ordered 6 of these HHA for my Class 66 now I feel like an amateur after seeing this…😢
Lol...No, I'm the amateur and just bumbling along with my layout build. These Bachmann HHAs are occasionally popping up on eBay at more sensible prices now! Keep your eyes peeled! Regards, Julian
@@theeventhorizon-valebridge9512 yeah I got them between £30 and £35, I’ll add another six a later date but layout won’t have your expect Scale for few years yet. I do like how you run your loco’s at relative speed it gives an element of realism. You see many videos and it’s just someone playing with Hornby yours show a lot of thought has gone into it. I’ve subscribed and with follow, it made me chuckle because the last two freight loco’s I bought where class 66 and class 90 in Freightliner livery as you have. Keep up the good work.
@@frank27a Cheers Frank and welcome to the channel.
At first I was like "green and the feathers and we didn't take the junction", then the freight 47 on the MK3's comes flying down that track and suddenly I was glad! lol
Yes indeed. "Well done Wilson, I was waiting to see who'd be the first one to spot that". As with the entire UK since 2010, we're living in the land of confusion, illusion and delusion. A "post reality" society that's resembling the twilight zone! These are all just random trains and rollingstock which are scattered around in boxes hither and thither, or on the layout at any particular time. Like with the Bishop of Bath and Wells, "No form of railway depravity is too low for me. Animal, vegetable or mineral - I'll couple them up and do anything to anything!" when testing. (I may have altered the original quote content somewhat to fit my agenda here!) Nothing I post is meant to be serious, accurate or prototypical. The signalling isn't yet set up, just plugged in mainly....Once the layout's in a mostly completed state.... ("They mostly come at night, mostly".) ... I will try and run more sensible combinations and correct signals! ....but don't count on it! :) I just can't help but not conform! I really don't do "normal" ever! Kind regards, Julian
@@theeventhorizon-valebridge9512 Thou owns it, thou shalt do what one likes with it! lol
Fantastic view of your layout
Your back scene on the wall opposite the station is brilliant, from the track level it blends really well with greenery you have. Also nice to see big hills in a back scene.
Thank you very much, I appreciate the comments. Regards Julian
Great video and viewing angle 👍
Thank you very much for watching and your commenting on both of these Traincam videos Deano. Regards Julian

Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
Absolute stunning layout mate, really enjoy having a run round , glad you enjoy running anything that you want as there’s plenty of something for everyone 👍
Nice running session again cheers Al
Hearing all three humming away in sync is quite a haunting sound…
I'm a fan of both model railways and real life railways, spending hours on the real railways in my job travelling the country, but the sounds on model railways currently, just dont reflect what you would be hearing in real life.
Awesome presentation.
Thank you Dave, appreciated. Welcome to the channel. Regards Julian
They look and sound great! An RFD example is definitely on my want list. Though most likely will have to wait until they come onto the second hand market... £200+ per locomotive (which is pretty normal now) is pricing me out of this hobby. Though admittedly you can see where the money has gone.
Well, I can only recommend the ones that work reliably, if indeed there are any! Unfortunately all 3 of mine developed running issues (faulty motors I think) within a couple of hours and were returned. I've now kind of lost faith in them!...The retailer was worryingly cagey about the issue and in denial of the facts of my experience and in spite of many reports of problems across social media platforms!
@@theeventhorizon-valebridge9512 Oh dear thats a real pity. Maybe another reason to wait a while until they've sorted whetever the issues are! I hope they are able to come up with a solution as visually they are nice models.
@@soundseeker63 Not everyone seems to have had a problem but many people buy them and store them rather than run them. I am guessing the problems I experienced probably come down to component batches bought in at the Chinese factories which have been affected with poor quality control during manufacture. Maybe Covid affected supplies too, who knows!
Beautiful layout. A cabride on the Peak would be great. Even a ride in a coach.
Thank you. I've posted other videos with train-cam footage. Over time there will be many more videos of different types including rolling stock, cab rides, scenic, layout tours, updates, track plans, loco comparisons, wagons and anything else! Just concentrating on building the layout at the moment. I've a mountain of locos, coaches and many huge rakes of wagons too, all to come in the future!
Phenomenal video, loved the camera work and the loco's looked terrific, the Class 47 looks insane, brilliant weathering thanks so much,
Thank you Jonathan, most kind, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Regards Julian

They are great locos Paul and I'm sure you'll love it. Regards Julian
Nice to get an overview of the whole layout. Is there a rail connection between the upper and lower decks?
Hello Ian. When the whole layout is nearer to a basic level of scenic completion I will endeavour to post a layout overview video. Yes, there are 2 interconnecting lines between the two levels. The track plan isn't the best though as the layout has been adapted and changed during its evolution! In hindsight an initial master track plan would have been advisable! Regards Julian
Love it, its the synchro Olympics swim! 😄 . Excellent job
Great Dyson trio, you have there :-)
Not any more! They all developed running issues after an just an hour or two of intermittent use and have been sent back! There seems to be a general fault with either a circuit board component or the motor failing. Who knows how many of this batch have this problem.
