    Regarding late calves. I’ve been battling this and it comes down to supplemental nutrition from April to August. They need ample access to additional inputs like Rilomax or Protein Tubs. One year I thought oh the grass is knee high they don’t need any supplements and it came back to bite me and I’ve been trying to get back to normal past two years. Make sure the Mamas have plenty of access to supplemental nutrition

    Jeff, you seem to be abscesses with mowing. Why not cycle the bison from pasture to pasture on a schedule basis (rotation), letting them manage the grass/weed height and park the mower. I see a lot of ranchers that never mow, they let the animals handle it.

    • @BlackacreRanch
      @BlackacreRanch 6 дней назад

      We actually do rotate them between pastures on a schedule. It is great. The issue is that as it takes time to get good grasses to outpace bad weeds, we have to mow to keep back the weeds to allow the grasses to win out over time. Once the weeds are gone (years later) we will be able to slow on the mowing. Other option is to just spray herbicide which we have not done yet, but may

    Just starting with bison, 3 lears in now ans now im starting to have mineral deficiency issues. Lost 1 a few months afo and now a second is almost to the point of no return. Started as a parasite issue, got that under control and now just keeps loosing weight. gicen a shot of multimin, and plenty of mineral high in selinum copper and magnesium. But still loosing weight weight and very lethargic. Body index is a 1 or worse. Ideas?? How often can we inject with multimin. Cattle is once every 3 months but no information on bison. Thanks

    • @BlackacreRanch
      @BlackacreRanch 26 дней назад

      Loosing weight can be from a number of issues. First I would ask if you are positive it is a mineral issue. You can check the mineral content of your grasses/feed to be sure but as long as you are providing minerals as you state, it would not be my first concern. Parasites and Feed Quality are my first concerns. Getting poo samples and checking for parasite loads is very important right now. Confirm they are low or high. Worm if needed. Check again after worming to confirm your dosages worked. I would then check the nutritional quality of your feed. You can send samples for analysis. Low quality feeds will slowly starve a bison over time. If the feed and parasite possibilities are not sorted out, no amount of multimin will work. If wanting to inject more doses, I'd start with following the cattle dosage info.
