Ep. 348 - Heavy Rains Won't Stop Us

- With a break in the rain we tackle mowing the pastures to minimize the weed growth and give the grasses a chance to grow. The John Deere 5075E tractor did fantastic and our E12 rotary mower was up to the task. Pasture health is key for us to maintain healthy bison without the need to supplement feed. We take a look at how the large amounts of rain has affected the ranch.
Here on Blackacre Ranch we are building a bison ranch from scratch in East Texas. We have started ranching bison (i.e. buffalo) and will progress into other animals as the ranch grows. We are converting an old rundown church camp into a first generation Texas farm...profitable ranch that is.
We are a family with 6 kids. Our goals are to homestead the property, grow healthy food, and build good character along the way. We are new to homesteading and don't know much about it, but we are willing to share our struggles and journey as we learn how to homestead together. Think of this as homesteading for beginners where we are the beginners.

Your pastures are looking good, the more you cut the better they will look. Eventually, the good grass will overtake the bad grasses.
👍👍
I'm banking on that. I have to keep these saplings down.
Congratulations on the 2k plus subs mark, blackacre ranch.
Thanks!
Good morning!!!

Morning Bo
You really need to teach your kids to run some of that major equipment so you can focus on other thing on the ranch. You need to plant more grass with all the rain you’ve gotten, cutting the grass before it can seed, reduces your ability to regenerate. Oh yea, like the shirt!
Most of the kids are gone between work and college. I really only have the youngest 2 left consistently there.
😊 Good video Jeff like your blue plad shirt better. Just saying..
Hahahaha. Maybe I should think of changing my wardrobe some.
All farmers/ranchers carry a pocket knife, not scissors!
So true. I haven't graduated to that yet I guess. My daughter has though.
