Looks good, a lot of work left to do but, I think five years from now it will be worth it. The gain is worth the pain. On the positive side, you’ll have more grassy areas = less hay purchases. A wet winter and a matches will take care of those brush piles. 👍👍
The heavily rutted area's and the rutted roads after you smooth them with the box blade, you might consider unrolling bale's of hay when you are feeding hay . I know that you don't like the waste from unrolling hay but it may help with the grass recovery
@@susanlewis3315 it's a logging company similar to what in this video but they have a tub grinder/chipper that chips up smaller lest desirable trees. The chips are used for osb boards or furnace heat
Seems to me you're doing great out there, if not happy with what they done I'm sure other companies that will. Your pastures will get bigger,,Be safe Jeff
Jeff, you seem to be abscesses with mowing. Why not cycle the bison from pasture to pasture on a schedule basis (rotation), letting them manage the grass/weed height and park the mower. I see a lot of ranchers that never mow, they let the animals handle it.
We actually do rotate them between pastures on a schedule. It is great. The issue is that as it takes time to get good grasses to outpace bad weeds, we have to mow to keep back the weeds to allow the grasses to win out over time. Once the weeds are gone (years later) we will be able to slow on the mowing. Other option is to just spray herbicide which we have not done yet, but may
Jeff , I was kinda wondering why you didn’t do the clearing from the start. This should help you get some more acres for the buffalo. There is damage and they probably should have been more forth coming on the restoration they could do. I hope you find it helpful more than harmful. I enjoy your content and Opinion . God bless you and your family. Thank you for sharing your journey.
I've toyed with the idea for a few years actually. We should've done it earlier. Probably we were naive. I liked the trees but was coming to realize my goals for the ranch were hindered by keeping them. Thanks for the comment.
The company we worked through did not say they could do mulching. They advised us to do it after. Come to find out they could actually mulch it. I think I'd still want to burn it to be honest. Places we mulched before have taken 2 years to really grow grass again.
Yes. We brought up issues multiple times during them working. We brought it up after them working and even waited 2 extra weeks before posting the video.
Enjoyed the video. U mentioned cows would u buy some or focus on bison?
I meant bison cows. I have towed with the idea of getting highland cattle though.
@BlackacreRanch gotcha that's my favorite breed
After you burn the piles, spread the ash around in the fields to help the grass grow.
Good idea

May aversion to hay waste is strong but it could be a good idea. Thanks
@@BlackacreRanch it might help to put the cost of the wasted hay as part of the land reclamation from overgrown forestry cost
@@finbarrdinneen3430 Very true actually. Hay is cheaper this year for us so it isn't too bad.
Jeff reach out to a chip & saw company .
What is a chip and saw. Need to clear 20 acres.

I'll look it up and see if we have one around here
I would encourage you to start you veggie garden while you still have some kids at home.
Really want to. Want to be in the house first

Many tree remover companies now have machines to do mulching. Why wasn't that part of the deal ? And wouldn't it be safer and cleaner than burning?

I see a lot of marshmallows and weenie roast coming up, " Good luck my friend " 👍👍
Hahaha. Yes there will be.
Timber exemption is best exemption ever. A froerstry and land mgmt can write you a plan to turn into your appraisal district.
7yrs since they park cut my 30 acres. Roads by trucks still are here today.
Good morning !!!

Morning!
Really good video, so much to do.I hate stumps too. When's the barbecue? Stay safe
Is there another company that would do the cutting besides the one you used? Options??
They provided 3 bidding companies and advised us on who was the recommended company. We chose
Pines need to be 25ft apart to stop beetles migration.
We marked trrees to keep and they took everything else. 8k on 30 acres.
Landscape rake from tractor supply. Did you give them an opportunity to address the issues before putting your feedback on YT?
