      @ Jeremy, make sure you go up the Hillborn Trail that is just past the bridge over Hillborn Run. Just hang a right right after the bridge on the rail trail that goes over Hillborn Run, and you’ll see where the trail goes up. It basically follows the ridge up through the woods and when it comes out to the grassy forest road, the Twin Mountain Vista will be on your left, which is awesome. Keep following it around to the right a couple of miles until you get to the Bonnell Run Vista, then go down where the sign is for the Hillborn Run Trail to complete the loop (clockwise). We did it counter clockwise and I had to apply the rear brakes to get down;but I’m 70. MyHikes has a complete description.

    My home turf. I grew up in Hamburg and must have to Pulpit and the Pinnacle hundreds of time. I even lived in Port Clinton for a time as a kid . Probably a big part of what inspired me to hike the AT. My first overnight backpacking trip was at Windsor Furnace Shelter more than 30 years ago. I hear the area has a lot more people hiking there since I left the area in 2006. If nothing else growing up there acclimated me to Rocksylvania, I thought that was just how trails were until I hiked out of the area. My personal opinion , the trails you showcase in the PA Wilds are much nicer than the AT in PA. PA has some great backpacking that flies under the radar on the state forest trails away from the AT.

    • @Hiking.Inspired
      @Hiking.Inspired Месяц назад

      @@troyzohner2269 I’ve heard most of the AT in PA is very rocky and one of the least favorite sections of the route. We do have some hidden gems in the Pennsylvania though I agree. That’s great you got to experience the AT, that’s something I’m not sure I will have or at least not anytime soon. Not ruling it out though!

      @@spruce238 That sounds like a good route. The whole cross fork/hammersly area was my favorite. I want to check out the NCT trail one day, that would be neat to connect it to these trails! At one time I thought of connecting the bucktail to Quehanna for fun. I see myself going back over the years to experiment with more routes, I could easily do a PAWilds trip once a year without it getting old. Thanks for the comment and support!

    Nice trip. All in all you had pretty good weather for 6 days. DIY trips aren't complete if you don't have at least one navigation snafu. PA Wilds are definitely an overlooked gem for backpacking. Cant wait to hear more about the PA Wilds Loop.

    Hey Jeremy, Great 3 part video of your 6 day Renovo to Blackwell adventure, especially the sunset from Gillespie Point (we’ve been up there twice). We did a loop hike of the Beulaland Rd. trail with the Hillborn trail on 10/15. It is accessed just on the other side of the bridge on the Pine Creek Rail Trail from the Hillborn Trail and follows the ridge up, but is unmarked. We own a place in Tioga County and do a lot of hiking all throughout the area and feel like we will cross paths with you eventually. Love your enthusiasm for exploring and adventure!

      You know I had a feeling I was way off and when I was editing this part and adding the corresponding maps I said to myself I bet that trail was on the other side of the bridge and I just didn’t see it. Twice I walked by it and didn’t see it. In my mind I was certain it was up the hillborn trail and I guess that took over. I even told myself next time I’m in the area to go check again. Thank you for confirming my suspicions and I’ll definitely put this correction in the details for part three. Hope to see you out there one day and thank you in person! Happy trails!

    That pump at Brooks Run Tower is a vast improvement over what had been there in the 1970s when I hiked that trail. The well used to be out in the yard between cabin and tower - cast water pipe pitcher pump. Terrible source that was lousy water when it was running. There is water in Lick Island watershed if one walks off trail about 1/2 mile. It’s a good source, but inconvenient.

      @@brucehodson2763 We had to pump that thing for a while before water started flowing too. I’m glad it “improved” since the 70’s. That would’ve been neat if we could’ve went up the fire tower, it looked like it was in good shape but it’s fenced off now. That’s great info for another water source for someone hiking the trail in the future thanks for the comment!

    Greetings. You are the only channel i can sit for 42 minutes without getting up. Even if I had the stamina to go for five or six days, i really couldn't get away that long. How do you get away as much as you do? Just wondering. Does that fly come with the tent? I have a single tent similar to yours. Thanks for my Saturday night entertainment

      @@quietjohnoutandabout6578 Greetings, John. That just makes my day this was your Saturday evening entertainment! I took your poll you had up the other day and I selected 16 to 20 minutes for a good video length. I’d love to have my videos around that length and I’m constantly working towards creating a video that tells a story in that short of time. Yes, the rain fly came with the tent. I’ve still yet to see how it holds up in a good rain storm but so far I really like the tent. And yes, I’m very lucky to be able to get out as much as I can. I have a wonderful support system at home. Thanks, John.

    I've said it before but I will say it again. You have the number one best Backpacking Channel in Pennsylvania bar none. The work that goes into this gem of a finished product... Such a joy to watch your adventures, and they are true adventures... The music choices so good, the pacing and explanation of where you are and what is happening, absolute professional quality. @@WALTERZOLNA Thanks Walter! These 3 videos took me some time to put together (my wife can attest to that)and I’ve been thinking of putting out some videos with a quicker turnaround. As you know the editing process can get monotonous at times and I can’t wait to just start on the next adventure. When someone notices the work I put in and appreciates it that’s just awesome. There aren't any bonehead moves. Just experiences you learn from. I've learned a ton by just wandering the Pennsylvania Wilds and getting lost. Sometimes I prefer to venture into areas where others don't typically. I love that section of the Mid State from Ramsey to Blackwell. Bark Cabin Natural area (a bit South of where you camped) is gorgeous. Awesome video series. Looking forward to the next adventure! P.S. Nice job timing that sunset.

I agree with you about venturing out to unknown areas, it's very rewarding to find your way through them and to get away from the crowds. Looking back your right about the mistakes, they make for a fun adventure and getting through to the end is what matters! Thanks again!
