Noisy Power Steering Pump Fix

Noisy Power Steering Pump Fix • When first installed, there is a "magic sound" made by the pump when it begins pumping fluids • It is critical that the pump spins fast enough to push the vanes out, forcing the air out • The "magic sound" is the signal to reduce the RPM's (if you continue to run at higher RPM's you could wear the vanes out) • Lastly, bleed the system Feel free to share this vide...

How to Properly Vacuum a Power Steering System
U can air bleed it by turning lock to lock 20 times. I've never used a vacuum pump. Make sure to check the fluid level before doing this.
❤❤❤
At 5:45, when flushing... you forgot to mention that the 2 hoses that go to the rack unit MUST be tied together with a piece of hose (3/8") OR all that fluid will just end up on the floor. Yep- been there, done that.
I was just thinking this same thing. Some of us learn the hard way
I appreciate your in-depth explanation!
How much would u charge 2 do this job ?
Lovin' them Harbor Freight tools baby! Mine are awesome !
I tore my bushing on a 2002 e350 van doing this. How do I replace them?
Replacing power string pulley keeps throwing belt
Best video that doesnt require you take off the fan and hose! Amazing!!! Thanks!!!
Can you center a rack if it's already installed
Ya skipping too much step which this video is pointless
No its fine. You’re just not mechanically inclined.
Great 👍
Are you pulling vacuum with the car on or off ??
Thank you this video helped alot!
Great video!
Would come greased up already?
Good morning...I have a Nissan elgrand and it's steering rack is very very heavy when turning both sides so I'm asking what should I do about that issue and which steering rack can I buy because at the shop dealers thy says it's expensive to order so which Nissan uses the same rack as Nissan elgrand.
Cost?
Good video but you guys forgot the HEAT SHIELD. Please don't tell me there was no heat shield because if this was true, it's probably what did in the old rack.
You didn't show exactly where to connect the vacuum pump when bleeding it
Excellent job
Mine has a ground wire does it really need it ?
From other vids I've seen, the newer racks don't use it, but I'd make sure first just to be safe
Very good explanation of the system
Sure don't help at all when there used. I love stupid videos that tell you common sense stuff and don't really tell you what you need
2004 silverado standard cab 4wd, websites can't confirm compatibility and the ones that do don't list my trim it's only 2wd
I’m feeling pretty stupid. I do all my own car work. I’ve done multiple steering pumps, rack and pinions, etc. How are you flushing the lines without the steering rack in the car? What is your high-pressure line connected to? It doesn’t make sense to me. Without the rack in the car, your high-pressure line is just hanging loose and there’s no way for it to put fluid into the return line. I would love a response because I can’t get over feeling this stupid.
He fails to mention you must tie the lines to the rack together in order to flush as shown. What a mess it makes!
Curious to know how long a job like this should take? Great video.
I'm thinking I'll let a mechanic do this job that's why there pros.
Seams like a lot to do n hard for some women…
Magic!!! I love it! Funny how there is no detail to actually explaining how difficult reconnecting the steering coupler to the gear box steering gear. C'mon son....
How do you know if it’s ZF or not?
Did you ever find out
Ahhh the 2000’s Avalon just like mine
Menerjemahkan teks dengan kamera I am your subscriber, sir. Please ask how to modify the Torque Rod in the Pinion Gear? . All this time I have been observing why no one has modified the Pinion Gear. The info is that by modifying the Pinion Gear you can lighten the steering. Thank you very much in advance, I am waiting for your answer and vlog
Precise and to the point. New reservoir is a good tip for older cars.
But you didn,t mentioned check valve on pressure line side in Rack should be replaced and inserted in new Rack and some new ones they have build in Rak .
To get to the rack on my car I had to drop the subframe they don't show you that😊
With a pulley that's bolted on, do you need a pulley remover tool
What if the puller isn’t able to get it off?
How can I buy one if this pump?
Nice work im replacing my 02 4runner rack and pinion after an attempt at rebuilding it and still having leaks around the bellows i figure the housing for the rack is bent due to the sway bar links not being installed after a lift was installed my question is what is a good brand vacuum tester for rack and pinions to vacuum test the seals thanks for your help
Best guide i have ever seen thanks man🫡
Thank you so much for this so detailed explanation. I was able to do this replacement on a 2014 GMC Yukon following this video. A couple of things I noticed along the way, which are not mentioned here though: 1. The new rack and pinion comes with two unopened rubber seals for the connection lines to the steering wheel fluid. However, they can easily be mistaken with temporary seals to be discarded. If so, then the fluid lines do not seal at all. The rubber seals have to be opened up a bit before placing them in their positions again. 2. Steering after the installation is harder. It appears that there is something called pre-load adjustment with a bolt located on the base of the pinion, in order to loosen up the steering movement. In my case, even though I counted the turns of the tie rods, the pinion shaft did not properly aligned with the clamp hole. Since the instructions clearly state not to move the steering wheel, as it is already centered, I had to move the pinion shaft to make it align and have the clamp fall in place, and then re-adjust the tie rods, as the wheels were now off center.
This video could use more details on Vacuum Bleeding, since this is the point of the video.
using ATF will get the air out of the system better than clear PSF check your vehicle manual for specifics. If you have to do this replace the cooler and fluid lines as they wear out and rust.
Very informative video, but you failed to mention where the vacuum is connected.
To the reservoir
5:35 timeframe, what did you use to clean the hydraulic lines?
Hi I have a 2005 Yukon SLT 5.3L automatic with 218,000 miles. All stock equipped. Doesn't make any noise of any kind, that's abnormal. Well kept and daily driver. I drove it out on the highway for 300 miles and when I exited Interstate it was in manual steering mode...stiff to turn like it had no pump at all. And the brakes were not boosted either. It's not the belt or fluids of steering or brakes...all good. No leaks. No codes. No smells. No noises of pump failure. It only does it at low rpms when coming to stop, under 700 rpm. It works fine when above that. And the brakes are unboosted when it does it also, but work. This is the pump I assume? Remove and replace eh? Suggestions of what pump brands you had success with? I'm eyeballing the O'Reily $72 special. Thank you!
Could be your hydroboost if your truck has that option. Had a similar issue with a Tahoe
What will happen if you install it right away? Skipping to center rack
How you ever seen one that the power steering works turning left but doesn't turning right. It's a 2004 cheverlet 1500 4 wheel drive. I have replaced the pump, but it didn't change anything.
What happens if the steering wheel gets moved in this process? Truck I bought had a crooked steering wheel, I figured it just needed an alignment but the shop said someone had replaced the rack and probably didn’t do it right which is why the steering wheel is the way it is. So how would I go about correcting that?
Unhook the column from the rack and pinion would be my guess. Then you could alight the wheel straight and hold it in place while you reconnect.
