Cross stitching and crafting are stress-relieving activities. Making things with my hands gets me out of my head and immersed in the beauty of colour and texture.
When I started my channel in November 2019, there were only a handful of NZ-based Flosstube cheaters. I wanted to share my hobby and a bit of life from a kiwi perspective; I had things I wanted to say and share.
The kiwi Flosstube community has more than doubled and through my channel and other social media platforms I’ve met a lot of stitchers around the world and made some lovely, genuine friendships.
And I didn't expect to find the videos so good for my mental health and wellbeing - especially during family health challenges and in the landscape of the COVID-19 global pandemic.
My channel is mostly pretty light-hearted but I will speak up against injustices and discrimination and hate.

So happy to hear the job is a done deal! Congrats! Hope you’re feeling better soon! That black sampler is a stunner, can’t wait to see that finished!
Thanks, it's official - I signed yesterday! and both samplers are favourites. :)
Congratulations on your new job being confirmed, one less stress for you. I hope you are feeling better soon. You sound exhausted.
Thank you. Signed my agreement today. Turns out I was sick. Developed viral symptoms that afternoon and had to take Monday and Tuesday off work. Sick as a dog. Starting to improve now thankfully.
Such fun! Super excited for your *almost* new job! Great that you are getting a few weeks off. Fingers, toes and eyebrows crossed for a quick and easy house sale. See you soon. 🙂
Thank you so much!! I admit to feeling survivors’ guilt - I have a couple of friends out of work and here I am getting offered a role without having to really look. Right place right time I guess. I am relieved. Thank you for being generous with your support when you’re going through your own journey. See you at the end of the month?
@CreativeLeigh1919 😘
So exciting about the new job! Hope you're feeling better and rested soon. Floral dream has such gorgeous colors.
Yes, Floral Dream is such a beautiful stitch! And … I might have taken advantage of being off with illness to make great progress on her! Signed my employment agreement today so, huzzah!
💜💜💜
omg girl. I am so sorry for yet another loss. My hearts with you.
It's been a lot.
Great news about the job! Good luck!
Thank you! I have the new employment agreement... I finally reviewed it yesterday, and now I need to print, sign and get it witnessed.
So sorry for your loss ❤
Thank you. I am replying to these perhaps out of order? you have been catching up it seems. Appreciate the support.
💜💜💜
Frederika is beautiful.
Thank you. That she is.
Love the variegated thread in The Pointed Fifth.
Me too. I need to get back to that one! A focus for 2025 for sure.
💜💜💜
Playing catch up! 💜 That halloween ball is awesome.
Feels like I am in the Time Traveller's Wife... or we're the Doctor and River Song and our timelines are opposite with your comments and me answering the opposite order (as they are displayed in RUclips Studio). You're a braver woman than I to go back in time. ha.
Hi Leigh hope you are feeling better, love your WIPS,good news on the job front👍Thanks for sharing 🇳🇿❤🪡
Thank you - I'm getting there! After having gone down with a bad cold or flu. Mon and Tue off work and I am back online now at about 80%. Given I felt yesterday like I was negative 12%, that's a massive improvement!
Just catching up after a busy day on Sunday (and a holiday today for the horse race that I don't care about but love the day off!) - hope you're feeling better now. Great that things are falling into place for work for you. Change is a little scary but can be very good for us.
Hey, change is constant, right? I have tried to be as positive as I could be through this change process... and I think that has reflected in that I actually had three offers... a short term extension at work, a potential offer with another vendor (I did't want to work there) and this opportunity. :)
Hope you feel better soon Leigh. Glad the new job is definitely happening. The WIPs you worked on look so pretty. Happy stitching 😊
Thank you so much! Yeah, I went down Sunday afternoon with flu. It wasn't just fatigue - it was illness. Made it all through winter with nothing, then spring hits, and BAM.
Hope you feel better soon. You have had one hell of a year so take time for YOU. Great stitching.
Thank you. I went down Sunday afternoon with flu. So, feeling very sorry for myself and am "mostly" off work, sick. Doing a bit of admin here and there. Ugh.
Hi Leigh I hope that you start to feel better soon. Love your WIPS - Beautiful Progress on them. Take Care & Happy Stitching ❤️🤗🙏🧵🪡🧵☕️❤️
Thank you. Unfortunately, I am out with flu. Not at all enjoying that! :(
You so need to look after yourself. Your Nora ladies are beautiful. Have a good weeek, take care and happy stitching 🌸💞🌸
Thanks Suzie. I'm sick. Blinking virus. Feel like I've hacked up a lung over night. Not at all happy here!
Hope you are feeling better today. Loved the 3 projects you showed. I am with you we should be supporting locally owned shops & I appreciate the time you gave to help Kevin this regard
Thank you. Unfortunately... I got worse. Bad cold or average flu - feeling quite poorly and have been coughing and wheezing all night. Feeling very sorry for myself!
@ ☹️I hope you feel better quickly, take care
@@barbaraann1214thank you. Back to 80% human today.
Fantastic news about the job! Did a floss conversion and kitted up Strawberry Fields while watching you so that I can hopefully pass along your freebie table goodness to someone else in March.
You're going to love stitching Strawberry Fields! It's such a great design and very forgiving if you want to change things around. :)
Thanks for the shoutout! I hope you feel better soon and congratulations on the new job!
Thanks! It's happening. 🥰 Meanwhile... flu. Dammit. Been down for the count since Sunday afternoon... managing a bit of work admin between sleeping and coughing.
Catherine from Countrystitch here - I also stock Au Ver a Soie products, and can order in anything from their range in any quantity.
Hello Catherine from Countrystitch :) Thanks for the reminder!
Hope you are feeling better soon. Glad you have a new job, takes the pressure off 😊
Thank you! Turns out I was coming down with something... a cold or flu. Been down for the count for the last couple of days.
So glad to hear your job is settled, it must be a big relief. Congratulations x
It really is! Looking forward to 2025!
Thank you for the video. I hope you get well formall the traveling you want to do and for your new job. It is always an adjustment period of a year when you get a new job, so lay back and don't stress, or you'll be sick. I wish you all of the best and joy in your new adventures.❤
haha. You may have guessed that I am an active relaxer - I'm usually doing something and usually doing more than one thing at once. I think reading - cos I only read books, I don't do audio - is the only thing where I do one thing at a time. Speaking of sick.. yeah, I am down with a virus. sick as a dog.
Really enjoyed the visit this morning Leigh and so Happy for you that this new job looks like a done deal....no more worries. Enjoyed seeing your lovely wips and the progress you've made. That was very nice of you to talk about the local shops in New Zealand, they sound very nice. Do try and get some rest and rest your voice...hope you have a great week and get some relaxing stitching done. See ya next week, bye for now...JoDee 🥰
Thank you - everyone of the shops I mentioned have lovely people running them. And most of them are one-women deals! I am happy to support local where I can.
Congratulations on the new role! Scary but exciting I’m sure. Thanks for keeping me company while I cook my meals for the week!
Oh, I have RUclips playing when I cook too! It's like having company in the kitchen, eh?
Your red sampler finish is beautiful Leigh. Love how your WIPs are looking. Glad you’ve got a new job opportunity. Happy stitching 😊
Thank you so much!
Congrats on acquiring a new job and moving forward. You have had an eventful and you deserve time off with friends and family. Enjoy❣️
Thank you so much! Yes, I need a break and it's good timing.
Wishing you some time soon to get some meaningful rest. Be well!!
Thank you. Yes... my immunity said nope, and I am out with a virus. Cold or flu. I feel pretty rotten!
Please take it easy when you can so you don't get really sick!!! Thrilled the job is working out, and you will have some time off between. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yeah... I got properly sick. It wasn't just fatigue. I have all the virus symptoms of a bad cold or a flu. My ribs hurt from coughing and I have been a snotty mess. Sigh.
@ ... it's because of all the stress and overworking, as I'm sure you are aware. Rest, and I hope you feel better very soon! Let's hope for my country and the world, that the election tomorrow proves most Americans believe in supporting a president with intelligence, respect, and dignity. And let us hope the new year holds excitement, adventure, and normalcy to your life.
@@margaretyoder3007oh god. The election. It’s front page on our news too… I have several ex pats and they all voted already … but man. I can’t even comprehend what emotions must be for you. Such a divisive political system. Sending you virtual And therefore non-contagious hugs.
@ thank you, I need them. I am holding it together, but a wreck inside. I have a daughter who is 21. I cannot imagine her life like in "The Handmaid's Tale". I have a bottle of red wine open, and will probably not look at the news until tomorrow morning. God save our country!!!
It breaks my heart that women don’t have autonomy over their own bodies. Their right to choose.
lways enjoy seeing you and your projects. Hope you are able to get some rest and feel better 😊
Thank you. I did come down with illness... hope to start feeling better tomorrow.
So sorry you are feeling under the weather again. Hope you have had the rest of the day on the couch with needle and thread creating more beautiful pieces of cross stitch. Sounds like you will have about a months holiday before starting your new job. Have a great week Leigh and Happy Stitching
I did exactly that, Elizabeth. I stayed on the couch. Until I went to bed around 8pm feeling worse... and overnight, the viral symptoms came on and I have been off work with genuine sickness.
@@CreativeLeigh1919 Sorry that you really are sick and not just allergies, they are bad enough though aren't they. Hope you feel better soon
@@elizabethbryan9475yeah. I was totally in denial on that. Kinda glad it was actually a virus and not a glandular fever relapse which I thought it might have been. Happens when I get rundown and stressed that I get a sore throat and fatigue and I have to slow down. I’m coming out the other end of the lurgy now and I am feeling better than I did last week.
@@CreativeLeigh1919 so pleased it wasn't a relapse of glandular fever. Take care and listen to your body. 💐🧡
Hi Leigh, playing catch up so good to hear the job is looking like its a go! Will get an update with the next one I watch!
Happy to see you even if you are catching up. We can't do all the things, eh? But yes... job is a go!
So happy to see you on a Sunday morning. Back into my usual routine. With you on the lack of sleep. Jetlag and life issues are not helping me. I hope you feel better soon. It's no fun feeling ugh. Beautiful stitching. You'll finish the Jane Eyre one in no time. When I'm back in NZ I'll definitely be shopping! Road trip 😊
haha. we love a good shop, eh? Hormones don't help with the sleeping. Add in a frenetic work environment and other trauma and drama, and it's no wonder I'm currently out with a cold or flu!
You are going to be a very busy girl. Take care of yourself. 😊
Yeah, wondering if I might plan to go to Dunedin over Easter instead of after NY. We shall see...
Such a wonderful finish on the TGA Redwork sampler! It looks great with the initials change. So glad I found your flosstube. Will be watching again. Love the projects you are working on. Have a great day! Krista @ Just Stitching Along
Thank you so much! I love your chart. It was such fun and so forgiving when I messed up the border and just went with it lol Thanks for the message - reminded me to add and tag you on Instagram. I’m the worst at it.
Love your finishes 🎉 congratulations on your job offer.
Thank you so much! it's a very exciting opportunity. Also... mortgage payments!
Congratulations on getting a new job offer so you don't have to worry. Your hair looks really cute, today.😊 Love Crowns of the Kingdom!
Thank you so much!! day two after I've had the roots done is always the best day! :D
Love the red sampler finish. I have that chart to start.
Go for it! It's such a nice stitch. Nice to work on the occasional horizontal sampler. And you can have fun with the colours. Use up all sorts of random things from your stash.
Sounds like the new job is progressing well. My experience is that it is *very* different working for a vendor - especially a small-but-growing business - than working in the public sector. Creative and development opportunities are likely to come your way from all sorts of unexpected angles. Lovely to see your stitching progress and finishes! And so excited to find out that That crafty kiwi is going to import F&R linen - I've already reached out to her 😁
Helen will be excited I am sure - it must be helpful to know she is ordering things in that people want to buy. I am excited about the new career path for sure. I'll still be working with government, but not for government. It will be a change and a good one I'm sure!
Great news on the job, exciting! So wise with the sale of the house, nothing will destroy a family faster. I’ve been so fortunate that my sister and I have been in agreement on everything. Love that red sampler! And the date looks perfect there. You’ve been busy, I really enjoy seeing your progress!! New starts sound fun for next year!
New starts always are a great idea! ☺️ it was a surprisingly productive week with the needle!
Two things - one cannot sleep in a room with the window closed. Aidan Quinn. Every male was compared unfavorable to him in the late 80's into the 90's. 😂😂 Great news with the job. A pity you cannot take those 5 weeks of leave before you go, but that's a good amount for a bit of stash enhancement and treating yourself!
Ha. I’ll have three and a half weeks’ break. It won’t be bad :) Yes! Windows open ! And Aidan Quinn! Ha ha.
I love the video. I am glad you are excited to change jobs, stressfully but good for you in small amounts. I would one day like to do a sampler. Yours always turn out beautiful. ❤
You can do it! Samplers come in so many different styles - there’s a sampler out there for everyone.
Hi Leigh love the red sampler, great stitching projects, your crowns are coming along nicely, good luck on selling dad’s property and all the best for the new job, have a good week Thankyou for sharing 🇳🇿🪡❤
Thank you Donna. So much has changed this year. So thankful for having a grounding hobby and a lovely, supporting community.
So very excited and relieved for you that there is an interesting career opportunity in the works. Will drink a glass of bubbly on your behalf when all is finalized! Have a fabulous week. ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you. I’ve tried to keep positive and not stress too much. I genuinely have considered the restructure as opportunity for something new. And … it’s happening. It’s terrifying. But in a good way.
Aiden Quin, ooh now theres a Saturday night in lol 😂😂😂
I know! Haha. Is totally not remembered he was the actor in both! I need to see what else is on TVNZ+ and go for the Aidan Quinn trifecta 😂
Really enjoyed the visit this morning Leigh!! As always your wips look Amazing and Congratulations on the Gorgeous finishes 🎉. Your hair looks really cute today...wish I could have my hair like that, but mine is long and boring in a ponytail out of the way, lol. So glad you and siblings have come to agreement on Dads house 🏠 and NOT letting $$$ or Things come between you guys... you are so true, it happens ALL the time 😢. You had a fabulous stitchy week and me...NOT so much, but did do a little crochet on a blue basket weave blanket. Fingers crossed 🤞 I can stitch this coming week. Hope you have a great week and so happy for you that your new job is getting closer. Much Love and Big Hugs, JoDee 🥰
Thank you for the lovely long message. I had my four-weekly hair appt. on Friday so was feeling fresh. Ha ha. I cannot crochet. I mean .. I sort of can but I get lost and end up with never ending spirals instead of a granny square. In a way .. better to not pursue another hobby ! 😂
Your projects today are gorgeous. The red work sampler is so pretty and the linen color you chose for Sunrise is perfect. Crowns is stunning, I’m ordering that asap. Glad to hear all your good news ❤
Thank you so much! The linen is the called for so I can’t take the credit for Sunrise. It’s certainly colourful and like a smudgy bruise - but it’s amazing.
