Wake up, start your own mechanic shop. These dealers will cheat you every week, just like they do to customers!
Everything this guy says is mf facts and I worked in 3 different commercial truck dealers i did make my money though bought two houses out of it, but also got bulged disk out of it 🤣🤣
From 1970 to 77 I worked a t Datsun everything he said is true some days at the dealership I would make less then $10 for 8 hours opened my own shop in 1977 and retired in 07.
Every business is 10000% the reflection of it’s owner. Fish stinks from the head. That’s a toxic environment. I bet there are many ok shops, probably too few But I disagree with one thing; cleaning your work place is 100% your duty.
I left Sherwin Williams, because of stupid a la manager, who even dont respect the customers.
Do you need KDS equipment to clear the code or will a Snap-On Scanner work?
This worked!!!! it was a bit of a pain to take apart, but there are just two main 10 mm nuts that hold the assembly on and then two Phillips screws after that. The rubber tubing was on there good so it had to worked off. Total time spent was under 30 minutes and I got the part OEM for like $30 bucks. THANKS!!
There are things I like and dislike about the dealership I work at but I enjoy that I happen to have some freedom to dick about when I’m not actively working on a car they let me have big speakers and monitors at my box, also with cleaning the stall I think it’s important to keep a clean work environment and while I would like to be paid to do it I do prefer my stall being clean and with a quality floor cleaner being able to have a clean stall in 5 min is nice because when it’s dirty I can’t expect someone else to clean it after every messy car and for me I hate the idea of getting oil inside of customer cars especially because many people have lighter interiors it’s easy to see every bit of dirt
Idiot. Doesn't understand flat rate. My techs crank 80+ hours in 40 hours and go home well paid and happy. This guy must be a lazy express tech.
Did you disconnect the battery and was there an issue with lights coming on on the dashboard

@Matthewjo22 thank you

What this guy says is 100% accurate !!!!!!!! I just recently retired after 30years in the mechanic business, I have seen the dealership model steadily go down and down, flat rate was straight up designed to screw the tech, dealer hourly rate is 150-250hr then the POS manager looks at you like 25-30hr is too much,I Remember when techs got 35-45% of whatever labor was sold plus 1-5% of the parts sales on the ticket....enter flat rate garbage....then you have warranty work which pays around 50% of full pay,you have other techs constant comebacks.... you have POS corrupt advisors and POS service managers taking care of there buddies while screwing over everyone else, nepotism abounds, especially at this one dealer I worked at...I am not a big proponent of unions but 30yrs taught me this entire industry NEEDS to unionize, name another line of work where your outside in the heat, treated like shit by all the office clowns, where you have to buy upwards of 50k or more in personal tools because no POS company provides them, and just a miserable workplace environment
@@jasonrowen8938 thanks man, yeah we need unity
Any dealership is a franchise, the automaker is not to blame, but the owner's of the dealership they see everything as a profit and always wan't more
Bad families produce these ego manic that can't with zero practical management skills...they can manage a kids soccer game or a small meeting and that's it
Sad to say that type low class management is in all trades at the present. Product of the current education system. In days gone by, people would go up the chain, meaning that managers usually began their career as mechanics. Today, they are hired with degrees and they wouldn't know a deadblow hammer from a nutcracker. Their understanding of leadership is barking orders and expecting upsales, forget troubleshooting, there is no profit in troubleshooting. They don't value skill, just sell!!! I once had a manager trying to get me fired, when he sat in his office looking at porn a large portion of the week.
Most places treat employees like trash these days.
Don't ever go to Universal Tech Institute its a scam and overprices if you have to go to tech school go to your local jr. college. Get into the T-TEN program. Otherwise go into STEM. I only went to tech school to learn how to fix my own cars and get half off snap-on tools. This way I do not ever have to step into a stealership where they always lying about this and that and consultants that don't know anything mechanically upselling for commissions.
This is why I never became a tech they get paid way less than other trades especially the unionized ones. UTI is a scam and waste of money. You have to buy new tools everytime and the Snap-on and MAC trucks love to prey on young techs blowing their paycheck on tools. I have Snap-on and Proto but don't buy every tool that they have. Snap-on hardline tools are a must and don't buy cheap communist junk made in sweat shops. Mechanics/technicians are not worth it for a career. Go into a STEM program I got into software engineering now I make way more than the GM of the Toyota/Lexus dealer.
I did 6 weeks in a ford dealership and that was enough for me. What an unorganized joke.
Dealerships are shit. I challenged mine on PDI flate rate. They said that the PDI only pays .5 and the VSI pays .4 for a total of .9 per completed PDI. In the PTS however, you can plainly see based on the model of course that PDI time paid as low as .3 for one particular model and others paid as a high as 1.1. So my question was in states that do not do annual vehicle safety inspections are those techs also only getting .5 or are they getting the actual .9? The Standard labor times say nothing about the Virginia State Inspection being part of the PDI process so where is the extra .4 going? I only took this job because I was still healing from a car accident and I knew PDI/Used Car Tech is a gravvy gig plus the Meineke I was at for 10 years sold and I was out of a job. June 2025 will make my one year at this dealership and I will stay that long but the better money is in the aftermarket or if you're experienced enough start a mobile mechanic business so you don't have the high overhead of shop rent.
Been at a shop as an appreciate for less than 2 months. Just put in my two weeks for 3 reasons: low pay, insane job times and disrespect. How do you expect me to do a full oil change and inspection on a vehicle for 0.15 charged hours? I need to get the ticket, seat cover & floor mat, find the vehicle, drive it in, rack it, inspect under the hood at the air filter and all fluids, top off washer fluid and tire pressure, grease the chassis, change the oil & filter, put a service reminder sticker reset the oil life and drive it back out to the lot. In 0.15 hours? I want what they’re smoking.
I worked at a Honda dealer and it was sort of like that. And gootyear was worse!
Not gonna lie just sound like your complaining about nothing .. if your feelings get hurt easily this field not for you . I get some ppl are assholes but that’s life .. but like every job waits 1-2 weeks to pay you .. and who doesn’t clean their work space after their done working . You expect other ppl to clean up after you ? Like some stuff I understand but to me sounds like your a big baby bro
These kind of jobs put you through a meat grinder
Customers don’t really like dealerships either. Finding a good mechanic is difficult. Most of them already have their customers and jobs lined up. Also, burnout rate is probably high.
Excellent video that’s exactly the same thing that it was happened to me on the damn body SHOP that I used to work
Warranty pay should be illegal.
Meanwhile guys like me with a decent automotive resume struggle to get into these companies
Glad you quit that place. No one needs to put up with that kind of nonsense. A person is only limited by what they are willing to settle for.....expect and demand more, and you will get it.
I worked at a dealership and found that the majority of the employees including the managers are all ex convicts and drug addicts and will cheat you out of your money if you give them a chance. its the scammer personality type that make a dealership "successful" at selling cars to customers. if you have any honest bone in your body, just stay away and don't work at a dealership. period
I work at a GMC dealership. Sadly its the same truth. Its not what you know, its WHO you know.
What should I be charging for diagnostics? I’m only charging 60 right now.
@@Gearshiftgarage02 I charge 90$ for diag, but you need to be good
dealerships make great independent's! 👨🔧
Thank you
47 years as an auto mechanic and I can tell you this…if I’m on flat rate, I’m not mopping your effing floors, Or fixing your niece’s car for nothing. I made it all the way to retirement, and I actually did real well, but if I had it to do all over again, no….
Instead of putting all of this effort into this video. I would have reported all of this to the labor board. I went through the same thing back in 2022. Just this year (2024) I was paid a few thousand dollars because the company I filed a claim against was penalized.
Probably had it with the service manager... yep people come and go.. I used to work at Toyota. Pay was dirt.. never missed it..
I’ve had many employees in my many years. You set off about 5 red flags in my head within the first 2 minutes. If you ever expect to be treated fairly you have to get that chip off your shoulder
Many help from experiences for fixing car from You Tube. We need to go to dealer. Dealer are most scammers 😂😂
Good luck mate all weather indoors 😊
Dealerships are the worst. Its like animal house with tools. The biggest rip is the dealer oil change. You pay for synthetic but all your ever going to get is Vat oil. And it will be extremely overfilled. Your not getting the ASE mechanics your getting the dudes in the back of the building that don't even speak English.
Good for you! 👌
I was a victim off bullying in the earlybpart of my Job , so I put loctite in their lockers padlock, and they go home in uniforms😂😂😂. Japanese supeevisor who are asshole get the same too ny thowing away their work shoes and they walk on their feet😂. There a lot of ways to get back them
This crap is NOT new for car and truck mechanics, especially at car dealerships. Start looking for a job at Industrial Power Generating plants, Off Shore oil rigs. Places that have Unions. Your goal should be to find a Union job. I'm 71 retired and receive one SS check and 2 Union retirement checks every month from 2 different unions I was in, one was only 7 years there and the other one was only 15 years.
Well Jo, welcome to America and yes you are the gofer, and the slave to the system.
I am very happy for you and your family
What’s the name of the dealership? So I know not to go there
