Building a Storj Node and Migrating Existing Contents, FUN HomeLab Project
I've been working with Storj for nearly two weeks now and it's a pretty cool project! Storj is decentralized cloud-based object/file storage. Files are split into hundreds (sometimes thousands) of pieces and stored on various nodes around the world. Anyone can operate a storage node and that's what we're going to be assembling today!

Will the older Mellonox switches work with windows 11? I was thinking of upgrading my network with 100gb cards but was worried the older preNividia Mellnx switches (the ones that are under $1000 dollars on ebay ) will be obsolete with windows 11?...Is that not an issue? I am new to all of this tech so I am trying not to buy gear that is useless that can go for another 5-8 years.

Is it just me or do the serial numbers printed on the drive not match the ones you got from the terminal? I got a bunch of these and the serial numbers don't match what is printed on them so Iwas wondering if that was normal. I haven't seen it discussed anywhere.

@HomeSysAdmin I actually contacted Seagate. They had me run seatools, because of course they did, luckily there is a Linux version. Anyway, their explanation after several rounds of escalation was "this particular drive is a testing unit, not intended for sale or distribution to customers. As a result, the serial number may appear differently in the software."

Interesting, thanks for sharing that response. I'm not sure how they could be "test units" though because 1) they're laser engraved "recertified" by the serial number and 2) there are hundreds of thousands on the market. How many test units do they need lol?

You might try running `iperf` rather than `iperf3`. I've found that `iperf` tends to be a bit faster, than `iperf3`. With a point-to-point connection (without a 100 GbE switch), I can get the ETH link to push around 96.9 Gbps (out of a possible 100 Gbps) with 8 parallel streams. With a Linux network bridge (ethernet) though, VM <-> VM can only muster around 23.0 Gbps (which might makes sense given that the 100 GbE connection is actually comprised of 4x 25 Gbps connections over the QSFP28 connector.

the story I heard about WL drives was that retailers legally cannot sell drives below a certain price per negotiations, so WL drives being sold is a workaround to allow retailers to sell the same drives below the minimum price

You helped correct some missunderstandings I had about how to do bonding, and I was able to correct my configuration as a result. Thank you for the clear and easy to understand explainations <3

I'd be interested to see the differences between the modes if you were using a layer 3 protocol built for multiple paths (sctp). Iperf supports it, but there's a bit of extra overhead to account for too.

would mention id definitely not install this card permanently on a riser like yours, these LSI cards run EXTREMELY hot, worth either attaching a fan directly to it or position it better so that your airflow will properly pass that heatsink.... @HomeSysAdmin
