I don't believe animal representations in video games are vegan at all - because that's not 'animal-free' - even if some people think it is - because it's no more animals in reality, but I argue it's a representation. The issue is that this is where veganism breaks down, because it's important for animals to have freedom of movement - and that might include into the digital space and I feel it's important to show the world what a vegan world is supposed to look like, as well as how the world should look like and how we should treat animals - if we don't bother them, but that means compromising vegan principles - and that's where the vegan society's definition unfortunately works against itself yet again.

I think the Sage owner wants to stay on brand with the idea that oh, by eating here, you're doing a GOOD thing! So she doesn't want to say that she was forced to sell out her principles because then people don't feel like eating there is a positive moral choice that can't be said about other places

It's also a double standard where if a vegan gets any disease ever its because they were vegan while omnivores get diseases at higher rates its never the diets fault in those cases.

Utilitarianism. It's a good thing to understand because they claim markets form the best utility in distribution of goods and services. Your argument is anti-market therefore, anti-utilitarian, at least to the extent that prevailing economics is based upon the notion that markets supply the greatest good for the most people. The restaurateurs are expanding there market by including meat on the menu. Looking for all that lost date night revenue to the mixed couples who don't follow the same dietary strictures.

The Matthew Kenney news is so disappointing. I really enjoyed his restaurants that I visited. I also think about the incredible expense that goes into renovating these restaurants. Now they are a new place with new decor. So much waste.

You're right that the standard has changed for customer service. I find a lot of companies use automated or canned replies that don't even address anything I've said at all.

I generally find netflix documentary series to be way too slow, what they put into 3-4 episodes could easily be compressed into a more engaging and interesting single documentary movie. This seems to have been no exception.

I was a MASSIVE cheese lover before I was vegan. And I don't mean extra cheesy crust pizza, I mean travelling to different regions in the world specifically to taste their special cheeses. If I can quit cheese, anyone can. It's just about realising your selfish desires can never justify animal abuse.

I agree with your take on the Climax Blue drama, it reminds me of the giant mayo producer who sued Just Mayo, lost, and now makes vegan mayo. Free advertising for vegan products is always good news, in my opinion.

I just watched this series last night. As someone who is “vegan curious” I was super excited to watch this docuseries. I went in thinking it was going to be a balanced & informative scientific presentation. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in a lot of it much like you were. There wasn’t enough focus on the nutrition science and it wasn’t the balanced presentation I had hoped for. There were a lot of missed opportunities. I was pleased that the omnivore diet was structured to be healthy and not your typical SAD diet and to learn more about Miyoko’s Creamery because cheese. Lol. Now I’m off to find the actual study and see if I can read that.

I see how this competition makes sense that they're trying to keep out vegan cheeses, because the whole point of the competition is for real cheese. I don't really believe in injecting the vegan products into animal based initiatives, because it's too forced. Why not just have vegan competitions of one's own and call it a day? I bet veganism would increase substantially that way instead of waiting around for better, only to see 'better' being in reality 'worse'.

I think what this cheese contest did more than anything else is bring up the thoughts about how many good products that would be great for GRAS are not on the GRAS list, and which are. Veganism really opens up new avenues of thought that are usually not even talked about.

I'd love me some kokum butter 'cheese' - but honestly - imagine how many great foods that haven't been made GRAS that are just waiting to? Sad how toxins like yellow 5 and Orange B are GRAS - even though they were called 'coal tar colors' and now sourced from petroleum - which comes from crude oil (from what I know). But I don't see how kokum butter could be GRAS - due to the high saturated fat content. Not sure how even coconut oil is gras, but that is, so is cocoa butter, so we got to make up our minds.

imagine if an illegal cheese, like the one with maggots, was wowing crowds for its scandalous nature and won just for that, but not the kokum butter lol - that would be super controversial.

The good vegan news is definitely the highlight of this channel - it would be funny and awesome to make the interviews kind of have an in-depth news feel - like 60 minutes or nick news style - where there's a really serious intro followed by 'going in' on interviewing the people trying to be serious to make it appear that it will be really serious, but in then pulling a 180 interview and it being chill lol. It would really go with the whole theme of this channel being a serious news station.

I thought you should know that your very brief reference to the Chickpeeps and Melanie Joy describing emotional violence led to essentially a 180 in my mentality and approach when it comes to advocating for veganism, as it incentivized looking into Melanie's work (and binging the chickpeeps.)

This went surprisingly deep. I'm glad that the discussion went beyond her struggles with her former business and instead focused on her very admirable conclusions for herself and for new, socially relevant goals for vegan business models. Very inspiring!
