    I hope you guys enjoy this XL vlog! I cut out a ton but there was just too much good stuff to cut any more. And of course I saved lots of good stuff for part 2 🤗 Apologies for the light strobing in certain parts; I got a new camera and have not fully figured out the settings.

      John is truly a legend. George was the first veggie of the gang (in the “Get Back” docu-series there’s a scene of him ordering “vegetables with cheese sauce” lol). Paul & Ringo are both vegetarian/vegan. I like to think John would be veggie as well today and I love your imaged catch phrase for him 😂🤗

    Re. Phantom of the Opera: Noticed they changed the name to "His" Majesty's Theatre outside, but it still says "Her" inside engraved on the wall. I can only imagine how many places had to change their names/signs when the Queen died.

    • @TotallyForkable
      @TotallyForkable  8 месяцев назад +1

      Great observation! Funny enough, when I was first researching for the trip, it was still called “Her Majesty’s Theatre;” I was very confused when it changed! Also, since I mentioned the cash debacle-when I did finally go to the bank to exchange my pounds, I asked them how often they change their cash. Their response was: “oh, every few years or so. It’s due to change again to have the King on it but they don’t seem to be in any rush.” 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @thebowandbullet
      @thebowandbullet 8 месяцев назад

      @@TotallyForkable I'm in Canada so I guess new coins and bills will have the king on them, but old money is still valid. So strange! Must be very expensive for them to have money expire like that.

    • @TotallyForkable
      @TotallyForkable  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes it seems pretty wasteful? But also it’s insanely easy to pay with a tap of your phone or credit card literally everywhere you go (something the US is painfully behind on) that I guess they just figure people aren’t really paying with cash anymore?

    • @thebowandbullet
      @thebowandbullet 7 месяцев назад

      @@TotallyForkable We tap to pay just about everywhere in Canada. It's really handy. This said, it costs businesses money and there's a debate going on where businesses want to charge customers higher prices if they pay with credit cards. Hopefully, that doesn't go through. Tapping to pay is becoming the norm everywhere.

    The food in London looks amazing. Love to see the variety and level of refinement. There are some good places here in NYC but it’s weird how many burger/junk food joints there are.

    • @TotallyForkable
      @TotallyForkable  8 месяцев назад +3

      Spot on with your observation about the refinement. I definitely had the same thought while I was there--that so much of vegan food in the US falls in the "junk food" category. Overall the food in London was so inventive and also much more culturally influenced--lots of middle eastern and Indian influences. I found myself wishing we had more restaurants like these in the US, but I have no doubt that British vegans come to the US and say the same thing 😂

If you’re still thinking about Operation Mincemeat you may want to see the Netflix movie starring Colin Firth, Kelly Macdonald and Matthew Macfadyen. So glad you enjoyed this, Eva!! 💖 And yes we heard about the movie as well (hadn't been aware of it before seeing the play). I'm worried I will find it boring in comparison to the play but I'm sure it's amazing and I will probably end up watching it! Looking at the cast list, I'm so glad they included the (very important) characters of Jean and Hester. If you are into musicals, the cast recording is on Spotify! Hester sings a song called "Dear Bill" that brings me to tears every time 🥲

    Really fun vlog! We love London, and will be back there in November for UK Vegfest. The tea at the Savoy looked so special! So glad you managed to get a table! We're doing a vegan tea at London Warner Bros Studios. UK snack foods are so good, and so much cleaner than what we have in the US. Most of the US ingredients have been banned in other countries! Go figure! What a fun way to spend your birthday! Looking forward to part 2! 💚🌱

      So awesome you are going for Vegfest. I went to Vegfest when I was there in ‘08; it was in a small conference center and a relatively small event but it was so exciting for me as I had never been to anything like it. It’s amazing to think about how big it must be now 🥹 And yes on the snack foods; I totally noticed that even just basic snacks & candy in an average grocery store had short & simple ingredients lists, the likes of which you would only see at health food stores in the US. Is the Warner Bros tea Harry Potter themed?! Have the best time! 🤗

    Cash doesn’t really “expire” here, it’s just that around 2016/2017 new notes and £1 coins were introduced with a bunch of anti counterfeit features and the notes are made of plastic rather than paper so they’re way more durable! The old style notes and £1 coins aren’t accepted in shops anymore but banks will swap them out for the new ones 😊 I’m 31 and this has only ever happened once in my lifetime so it’s not really a regular thing! I worked in a shop around the time it happened though and it definitely caused a bit of chaos 😅

    • @TotallyForkable
      @TotallyForkable  3 месяца назад +1

      Thank you for clarifying! The first bank I went to said I could only exchange them at the Bank of England; the second allowed me to do it there. When I asked the teller how often this happens she said "every few years" which I thought was strange! That being said, I was amazed at how seamlessly integrated the cash-free system was everywhere. It was _so_ easy to Apple pay--even the 15p fee for using a public toilet! Lol. It's literally night and day from America where some places are still cash-only 😖

    • @fairyscience
      @fairyscience 2 месяца назад

      @@TotallyForkable they do change our notes every few years to put new faces on there, but it doesn’t make the old notes void! They’ll still be accepted everywhere with the old faces, it’s just the old paper notes that are no longer accepted so maybe thats what they meant? Definitely could’ve been explained to you better though! And yeah some banks don’t like swapping them out because they don’t want the hassle of dealing with the old notes and coins, however the Bank of England legally have to! But some banks won’t mind 😊 and yeah for sure, it’s amazingly easy to be cash free here! I haven’t used cash in years 😂 on the opposite side to the US, some places don’t even accept cash anymore and are card only now!

      Hi! Thanks for the compliment. I actually bought a new camera before this trip as my previous vlogging camera was 8 years old. This is the Sony ZV-1. I was SO happy with the quality--especially the white balance. I also used my iPhone (iPhone 11) for a lot of the night shots like the theatre scenes and some of the dinner scenes and took the videos in 4K. Here is a link to check out the Sony camera if you're interested: amzn.to/3Mb1iq1 (note this is an affiliate link; if you end up purchasing from this link I get a small commission).
