    Here i may sound hypocrite but I support both views equally since I studied sanskrit before ancient greek/Koine Greek. I have a different opinion I would teach to be and to have before going to any other verb form where I would teach them both aorist and present form for them. along with ill rather teach the verb system/logic. for example a lot of exceptions cold be explained using sanskrit logic like how Baínō has a N in the middle since sanskrit grammars talk about a nasal present infix in present tense). second rather learnt using aspect approach over tense approach cause it made sense to me (one biggest difference between sanskrit and ancient greek in terms of past tense is perfect tense acts as an inferential/renerrative tense(aorist of narration) and pluperfect as an infernetial and renerative (imperfect of narration) teaching aorist helps in learning many other forms infact since we have classes of aorist 1. sigmatic aorist 2. root aorist 3. reduplicative aorist 4. Strong aorist(which go under guṇatvas) - basically pheugō ---> éphugōn eu --> u as u stated lūō as the stem where its lab it can be explained using gunation which would be helpful(it may sound a lot but its due to sanskrit) reduplicative aorist helps in teaching perfect form more over the only difference is from sigmatic aorist and perfect is the -s- over a -k- then it would help in teaching future form where we use the sigmatic future. then aorist form would help to pave the way for imperfect form since of the é- (á- in sanskrti) prefix. one change we can do it rather than having present form is using the root form and present form which may be easier also rather than introducing them together we can break it into sigmatic aorist, root aorist reduplication aorist and string aorist where sigmatic shall be taught before. how sanskrit it taught the dictionary form is the gunationed root like the word for to be is bhū/bhuh² which goes under gunation and becomes bhāv(vedic)/bhav(classical) which us like how phu became pheu in present. then we give other forms comes in. after exam I can teach the aorist paradime

      @@GreekForAll sir I have thought of an approach . u can teach gunation and for pronounciation u can stick to Lucian pronounciation it would be helpful teaching aorist may sound hard but we can break it down into 4/5 forms and with each aorist. since sanskrit is a very archaic indo European language you may check vedic sanskrit grammar it may be helpful in teaching grammar. like the 5 case apprach you can give nomative form along with root form how gune has an -k- added or how ónoma has an ta added

    Personally, I go with Modern Greek pronunciation adding two more vowels, viz. [e] and [y] for η (ῃ) and υ (υι), οι respectively, instead of pronouncing all of them like [i]. These distinctions are historically justified and avoid a lot of annoying homophones (like ἡμεῖς vs. ὑμεῖς). Still, this pronunciation is perfectly understandable for someone who is familiar with the Modern pronunciation.

    When I studied Greek in college, my professor would use the Erasmian pronunciation scheme for Classical Greek, but when it came to New Testament passages, she would have me, a native speaker, recite the passages so the other students could hear what Koine really sounded like. It came as a revelation to them how beautiful and natural it sounded as compared to the made-up Erasmian, which to them sounded awkward, stilted and demonstrably English-accented. One commented how Erasmian sounded about as authentic as a Texan trying to order lunch in French at a Paris bistro. My professor explained that itacism was essentially complete by the Second Century BC and Koine of the First Century AD was virtually identical to modern Greek. My professor was the renowned papyrologist Ann Ellis Hanson, professor of Classics at Yale, and the only Greek scholar to be given a chair in Classics at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Your case for modern pronunciation is supported by one of the most famous Greek scholars in the world. If anyone is interested in hearing the New Testament as it actually sounded, you can download the Bible.is app where you can hear the Bible recited in virtually every language on Earth. The one you're looking for is the Greek Patriarchal Text of 1904, which is close to the Textus Receipts underlying the King James Version. Listen to some of it, and then tell me that the cringeworthy Erasmian or "reconstructed" schemes sound better and more real than it.

    things you said are true. But there was one official way of pronoucing every letter. For example a Japanese who cant pronounce the L in an english word has a different pronounciation than a british but he is INCORRECT. So I guess the whole argument is how Greeks were pronouncing greek, not how Greek was spoken in the middle east. That's what's important for most people that study ancient greek literature or are just interested in ancient greek.

    • @GreekForAll
      @GreekForAll 12 дней назад

      @@PhantomPharmacist great logic and analysis. Right, the example with Asians was probably extreme, but i also talked about different English pronunciations by native speakers: British, Americans, etc. even in the United States we have a few different pronunciations: like southern one is quite distinct. All of these native English speakers bear a true pronunciation. I don’t think we can say to Australians or South Africans that they don’t have a pure pronunciation.

    Modern Greek speakers are not afraid of homonyms. We kinda hear the etymology because we are familiar with exactly what Koine did to ancient Greek language: it allowed a less scientific way to aproach it. This is propably the recipe for success of a global language. Erasmus ignored this fact. In John 18:36, Jesus Christ said, “Ἡ βασιλεία ἡ ἐμὴ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου τούτου,” or in English, “My kingdom is not of this world.” The vaguer “from here,” instead of “of this world,” looks like a textual alteration by medieval Christian Nationalists wanting to obscure the fact that Jesus separated church and state.

    Oh my goodness. This was so bad. The very first example concerning Peter and the conclusion that the creator of this video came to is completely unfounded. Humans can accept proskuneo or worship from other men. Read 1 Chron. 29:20. The whole congregation of Israel “bows down and worships God and the king”! There’s no differentiation made between the worship given to Jah and to the human king of Israel. Does this indisputable fact make David or Solomon, God Almighty? No. So a creature placed in positions of authority that represent God’s rulership can receive “worship” and this doesn’t take away glory from God. In the case of Peter the man was obviously worshipping him as if he literally was God Almighty. This is why Peter rejected this act. Like most words, the word “worship” has a semantic range and context will determine its meaning. But even in verses like 1 Chron. 29:20 where no distinction is made between the worship given to Jah and to the king of Israel we know that the worship given to both was not the same.

    • @GreekForAll
      @GreekForAll Месяц назад

      @@unletteredandordinary thanks for a valuable observation and contribution. I agree that the semantic range of proskuneo includes both worship and reverence. You are also correct by pointing that it is the context what brings the meaning to words. Your examples from the OT are good, but words change meaning through time. What I intended to show is how the NT writers used the word. And the NT pretty unanimously shows that except Jesus (and God) no one receives proskuneo. And that is a theological choice of the NT authors. If studied carefully, you can see that they chose the word intentionally.

    • @unletteredandordinary
      @unletteredandordinary Месяц назад

      @@GreekForAll You forget Rev. 3:9. “Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship (proskynēsousin) before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.” So, Jesus will make other men worship at the feet of his true followers. Even in Koine Greek the word worship (proskuneo) has a semantic range that includes the proper “worship” of human beings. Plus at 1 Chron. 29:20 the same word προσεκύνησαν/proskynēsousin is used in the LXX. So your argument about words changing over time is moot. In other words, proskuneo didn’t change meaning from the time the LXX was written up to the time of the NT. It retained its meaning. Therefore it’s not logical to argue that just because Jesus receives “proskuneo” he must therefore be God. The fact is Christ worships God. Who does God worship if you don’t mind me asking?

    Great take - I was thinking of a similar issue when hearing about reconstruction pronunciation. And I ended up deciding since there’s VERY little likelihood of me actually conversing with someone in biblical Greek, it’s better to learn the Modern Greek pronunciation. If I eventually am speaking with modern Greeks some day, I won’t sound crazy!

    The Bible clearly states that before humans appeared on the earth only Jehovah's family of witnesses existed in the universe. The first witness to leave the family was the angel who became "Satan" the first apostate. Today either one is serving Jehovah or the adversary Satan. There is no sitting on the fence.

    The Greek word proskuneō can be translated into various meanings. Jesus himself used it in his example of the King and his slave. Matthew 18:26 KJV The servant therefore fell down, and WORSHIPED him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Other translations use other words, such as honour, bend the knees to, bow down etc. Thus, taking the word worship to show that Jesus was God makes no sense. Peter was worshipped. Plenty of people are worshiped in everyday life. People in high positions are addressed as 'Your worship'. If Jesus wanted worship of any kind why did he say: (Matthew 20:28) Just as the Son of man came, NOT TO BE MINISERED TO, but to minister and to give his life as a ransom in exchange for many.” Jesus is a SLAVE of God.
