Covered Bridge Build Part 4 of 4: Roofing and Siding
This was such a fun and exciting build! How many times in life does one get the chance to build their own true covered bridge on their own property with lumber they milled themselves? Truly log to bridge haha. It may have taken me 10 months to getting around to editing and uploading this video but it sure was an amazing time finishing up building my covered bridge. Here in this final installment of the bridge build series, we put on the metal roof and all of the siding and finish up the build. I did in fact complete this project about 10 months ago so I've had all this time to enjoy the finished product and I can't say how thrilled I am with the results and how it turned out. Thanks for w...

26' Logs on the Sawmill? EZ Boardwalk 40 Sawmill Extension
Просмотров 6597 месяцев назад
One of the great things about the EZ Boardwalk 40 is it's rugged simplicity. I wanted to be able to mill longer logs than the stock rails allow (16') so my good friend Troy welded up a 10' extension for me so I can mill logs up to 26' long now. Come along as I install the extension for my mill.

Pallet Fork Receiver Hitch for your tractor! I saw a receiver hitch mounted to the end of a tractor pallet forks attachment on another channel (Sawing with Sandy...go check it out if you don't already subscribe!) and it peaked my interest. I bought this attachment off Amazon for $47.99 and have to say it is well made and makes moving trailers with my tractor way easier than any other method! I ...
Utility Trailer Conversion: Broke Down Boat Trailer Reborn
Просмотров 5 тыс.9 месяцев назад
A friend gave me an old boat trailer that hadn't been used in many years. Wanting a smaller trailer to haul stuff around when my 20' tandem is too big is something I have been looking for this past year. This was a perfect platform to use some of my sawmill lumber to do a utility trailer conversion. I don't have a welder (yet!!) so I had to figure out how to do this without any welding. Overall...
Introducing My New Sawmill: EZ Boardwalk 40 Walk Through
Просмотров 15 тыс.9 месяцев назад
I wasn't exactly looking to buy a new sawmill but here we are! The EZ Boardwalk 40 is an all welded frame sawmill made in Missouri. They have a solid reputation and I couldn't resist buying this slightly used one. This is a full walkthrough of the features of the EZ Boardwalk 40 including how to install a new blade (trying Ripper 37's for the first time) on it and milling my first log on it. Th...
How to Build a Bridge: Covered Bridge Build Part 2
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.10 месяцев назад
Come along as we build the bridge deck of our covered bridge build here on the homeplace. Here in Part 2 we fabricate and install the bridge deck and create our new fully functional bridge across our creek. Being 34' long and 9' wide it is quite the project. Crossing it with the 4500 lb tractor for the first time was an adventure as taking my 7,500 lb Toyota Tundra across it! Bridge deck all mi...

What about the bar oil?
The way to solve the tearout on the top side of the board is to use a 1/2” sacrificial board to keep your cuts smooth.
Awesome build, thanks!
Great video! I too am building a wooden covered bridge on or North Central Idaho property. Right now I’m in the stage of logging red fir trees off our property to be milled at our neighbor’s sawmill. Working with rough cut dimensional lumber is challenging, but better in many ways. Our bridge will set on a 48 foot railroad flat car, and will have 12.5 feet of clearance. I am not a professional carpenter, but a newly retired helicopter fire pilot. This project will have my total focus until completion. Thanks for your excellent video, I picked up several ideas watching it.
that sounds awesome!! So glad to hear this video may have helped you a little bit! I hope you put up some videos of your build...it sounds really cool and I'd love to see it! Thanks for watching and best wishes on your project!
can you rip the beam to create planks? Great video
you could, in theory, create boards by cutting down the length of a beam. But I have a sawmill so I'd use my mill for that. Thanks for watching!
@@homeplaceadventures I ordered a mil and its being delivered today Thank you for responding !
I have never seen a circular saw turned chainsaw.
Use a big syringe at a pharmacy or medical supply house, 350 cc and they come with a hose if you like, suck in the oil and so easy to fill, and they don't leak and need clean up, For all that work seems like just cutting from all sides and finish with an old fashion hand saw would be much easier. Man, it's a chain saw, not a finish saw. Amaz , Temu or even Ali X
Very inspiring!
Thanks so much and thanks for watching!
that's cool
Thank you and thanks for watching!
This is so cool, I just love that you made this yourself with wood you milled and using the old steel from the cartecay bridge. It's just beautiful!
Thanks Matt! And thanks for watching!
Dude! Thank you for the video. I was stuck with installing this on my corded Ryobi and the arbor bolt was too short and pushed the saw too close to the housing! Removed the guard stop and just used the ryobi inner bushing. Installed no issues. I put the bar oil in before mounting but can see I’ll need something to top it off if I do a lot of cuts! Saved my sanity! Thank you!
awesome to hear and glad you got it to work on your saw!! Thanks for watching and glad it was helpful!
did you consider removing the blade guard altogether that might have give you a bit more depth to clear bottom plate
yeah I didn't think of doing that! I will have to see if that adjusts the depth ability. Thanks so much and thanks for watching!
Thanks
thanks for watching!!
I have to admit it is the first time I have seen or even heard of a horse taking a chunk out of the steering wheel. That is hilarious!
nice, video. Greetings from germany
thanks so much and thanks for watching!
Is there a part 4? Great project 😊
haha. YES! It's been finished for quite a while now and I filmed it all...I just have to get around to editing the footage lol. I hope to do that soon. Thanks for watching- it definitely was a super fun project and I love how it turned out.
I can't wait 😊 I want to build one like that in West Virginia. 😊@@homeplaceadventures
Gosh dang. I started following you for your HM126 and you already up and sell it.
awww...well I really liked my HM126 and learned a lot on it but my EZ Boardwalk is a fabulous saw so I can't complain! :) Happy sawing and thanks for watching!
Awesome work, man!!
thanks so much and thanks for watching!
Awesome work, man!!
Great work, well done!
What size was that middle board ?
it was approximately 2x12. I put a level across the top of the 2x4's I mounted on the frame and measured down to the low point of the trailer to get the depth needed for that center board. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Still have this ?
I do still have it! Have put lots of hours and hard use on it on the property. It's been a great machine and I am still very, very happy with it.
Anyone thinking of doing the assembly themselves.. I would suggest paying the factory to do it. It is a nightmare.
Good Lord!
I have an 08 yamaha rhino 700. Looks like the same machine. If it's a knockoff. Great knockoff.
Thanks for the video. Have you tried to use it for ripping or is it only for cross cut?
these utvs are dope and almost every part on it can be used from Yamaha rhino its the same frame everything
Find an outdoor power equipment dealer, and ask them for the least aggressive chain that they’ve got and have it custom fit. Some of the older shops still make custom chains.
TY TY TY soooo much for this i dont have a welder either. you made so simple even I can do it lol TY again
So glad this video may help you with your project! Thanks for watching and best wishes!
Chinese junk
Glad to land here. Nice video!
thanks and thanks for watching!
I bought mine from Lowes in Delavan Wis. I like it nut the gas guage has never worked. I'm trying to figure out what to do, where do I get it fixed ?
Do you still like your easy boardwalk 40 and do you have any thoughts or downsides about it? Also, can you tell me what kind of jacks you used and are they stable enough? I feel like the drop-down that the manufacturer gives you wouldn’t be very satisfactory.
Hey there! The EZ Boardwalk 40 is a fabulous mill. If you are going to get a manual mill it is probably the best one out on the market. I used jacks I ordered off Amazon for the extension, I think they were 5,000 lb jacks? For the main part of the mill I used some from harbor freight and they are same rating. Both work great and are very stable. I am super pleased with it. You can't go wrong with the EZ Boardwalk 40. If you haven't seen it yet, go check out the full review I did here on my channel doing a walk through on the mill. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
@@homeplaceadventures Thanks so much!
This is a great kind of review because you seem like a real guy who really uses the thing, talking about your actual experience with it. As some have pointed out, you don't know the longevity of it, but it's an actual functioning piece of equipment that you're telling us about and it's appreciated.
thanks!! I am still running the Axis and still loving it!! Thanks for watching!
@@homeplaceadventuresI've seen alot of reviews mentioning charging issues. No issues with that for you?
Great build, I’m slowly converting a smaller boat trailer to a utility probably about a 5’x 8’ haven’t measured yet. Have to cut the 3x3 metal square tubing shorter where the front is. Lol when I hook it up it goes so fare back way to long. Was probably for a long light boat. I wish I would have watched your video first though. I like that you went out past the wheels to give a bit extra space. I’m working on a budget build for it so it’s taking a while with the cost of wood. Keep up the great work
thanks and best wishes on your trailer build! They are fun to do!! Thanks for watching!
Looking at this for an upcoming project. Question what about replacing the chain with a better quality chain, or sharpening? With my chainsaw with a sharp sharp chain I get very little tear out.
New sub ! Awsome i like milling and thats an awesome mill ! Can't wait to see more!
I don't much about circular saws, but everyone is switching to battery powered tools. Can you find a chorded saw that's more powerful for less money?
More interested in the book on your table. Is that a bible?
It sure is one of my Bibles! Colossians 1:13-14 🙏🏻❤️
I've seen nearly all the band saw mills on You Tube even DIY mills and there is something about an ez board walk 40 that makes it the mill in it's class that I would choose. The only thing that concerns me is breathing all the discharge dust. A respirator could solve that. That dust is extremely dangerous long and short term.
Quick question: I’m planning on hollowing out a tree stump and use it as a planter. Do you think this would work to cut the inside perimeter? Then I’d have to use other tools to chisel out the core.
But what about the bar oil? It said they have a bar oil thing with it?
that looks like a pretty nice setup. I got the prazi one on my makita 71/4 like 25 years ago and worked good. I want to try one on my 36v makita rear handle saw so i can work with out the cord. Good video, thanks!
Very nice!! If I can ask. How big did u dig your footings?
The footings were dug @ 2'x2' for each of the 6 posts as part of a monolithic pour of the concrete. Thanks for watching!
What did you have for footings in the corners and the mid posts?
It was a monolithic pour on the slab whereby the corners and middle post locations were dug out 24" square as a footing for the posts. Thanks for watching!
Are those tires rated for the highway. How fast were you going
good question! I am genuinely not sure. They are the tires that come with the mill from the manufacturer. I was on the interstate for a little bit...maybe an hour or so doing 65-75mph without issue. Rest of the drive was backroads at 55MPH or so. I had no issue either way. I know that the manufacturer drives them across the US with these tires on the interstate without issue. I don't think they have a speed limit on the tires like some other manufacturers have on their mills. It pulled very smooth behind my full size pick up. Thanks for watching!
Thank you. Got some good info from your site and others. I'm picking up my EZ Boardwalk 40 Saturday in Missouri and driving it back to Ohio. I know they deliver them that way but I thought I'd ask someone who hauled one.
@@50AcresofAcers congratulations! The EZ Boardwalk 40 is a great mill...I'd go so far as to say it is the best manual mill to be had on the market. Safe travels with your new mill and congratulations again!
Awesome video. What jack stands did you use
They were 5,000 ln Jack stands from harbor freight. For the 10’ extension I just did I used 5,000 lb jacks off Amazon. They both work great!
You must have gotten the wrong directions to install. My install had no issues as everything worked perfectly, after following the directions which you may have ignored 😮.
Bought one of these a week ago with the intention of making mantles and trimming thicker slabs. In your opinion, could a slightly longer blade and chain be put on this? Thanks for the video.
Possibly? It would take some fabrication/alteration to accomplish it. I’d be worried about increased flex/wander in the blade and quality of cut diminished? Personally I’d be hesitant to extend one but would be interesting to see that done.
@@homeplaceadventures I doubt I'll attempt it. Just gives me an excuse to buy one with a longer blade and chain.
Looks good! 👍 I'm in the planning stages to do the same with my old trailer. My hope is to use the metal C frame of the trailer to put a bunch of 2x stringers across. Then, run my deck lengthwise. If that doesn't work, then I'm definitely going with your design.
nice! I wasn't sure how I'd attach 2X stringers to the metal frame so I went with this design. Made it up as I went along but it worked out pretty good! I've been using it quite a bit hauling lumber, etc.
