THE CHURCH EXPLORER: STEVE: THIS CHURCH WILL ASTONISH YOU WITH IT'S HISTORY AND MONUMENTS
Good to see you back in church again. A lovely church, nice Norman chancel arch, the tub font is probably the same period. The lists on the wall are the 10 Commandments. The Royal arms are George IV. A hatchment is invariably a lozenge shape and the Royal Arms a conventional square frame.
Thanks Steve, nice to hear from you with your expert knowledge. Always a pleasure to read and learn from.
If I was a roofer, I would offer (for free) to fix that leak - it doesn't look like a big job, and it would be a shame if that got left to get worse.
The church warden is on the case, and it looks like just blocked drains. Thanks for your comments and watching the video. Please share.
how in theworlds did that medieval stain glass survive and to what extent is there medieval painting under that plaster...whats the story here...
The church is very interesting one and you see in a poor state of repair. It would be marvelous to uncover the wall paintings to see what they are. I could find very little history on the church. Here's a link for you. www.visitchurches.org.uk/visit/church-listing/st-michaels-farndish.html
Ah beautiful. Do you like the smell of churches?
loved this video steve, really appreciate your efforts to bring us these ancient places, !
My pleasure Terry and pleased you enjoy my videos. With comments like yours it make it worth doing. Many thanks
The landed Gentry steve, absolutely stunning, great age yet stonework and stained glass very pleasing to live with, I felt very much at home there, set in lovely grounds, and to think an earlier house once stood there , very impressed ! Tomb s are amongst the best I've seen
Pleased you liked the video. It was a gorgeous day to film and very rare that the church is open without a service going on. It's still very much used. I agree there would have been a manor house there before this on. One part I didn't show was the old driveway to the house. Please share. Many thanks
This is cool. I LOVE the aerial rise of the drone and the 360. Nice show. And I SAW the motte and remains of the castle in the background. So close. 👍
Very pleased you liked it and thanks for watching. Please share as I'm trying to build the channel. New video going up soon.

Intrigued by the star of David on the stain glass window.
Superb, Steve ,thank you for mentioning this video, very impressed with the stained glass, and the monument to Essex Cheeke and her mother Anne, who's second husband Robert Rich, was a grandson for Richard Rich who betrayed Thomas More .Essex Cheeke married into the Montague family-[ Richard Rich served 4 monarchs Mary 1st Elizabeth 1st, Anne and king Henry the eighth] Mother and daughter were painted by Van Dyhe
Wow! you know your history sir, pleased you have joined the channel. More videos to come.

Hi this is the guy you met at Harrold and Odell country park the name of the village with the historic church is Farndish
Extremely interesting video in many ways the site of the American Lincoln took me back to my childhood. The Bishops palace had I believe had a number of we!I known visitors, Katherine of Aragon was taken there after her divorce from Henry, before being taken to kimbolton... Louis Bonaparte 3rd came to England a number of times and so surprised and thrilled to find his name linked to this small and wonderful town, looks like the tree had been well pollarded! Keep up your great videos, Steve I enjoy searching the back stories, that often help in my Genealogy research
Many thanks for your kind words, it's very encouraging and nice to know people appreciate what I do. The story about Katherine of Aragon is a very interesting story. I filmed the church in Kimbolton too. There's a video on the channel. Please share my videos it helps me a lot.
Thanks for posting--I've been missing your wanders! And the cars are a nice touch.

Some even insist there's 'no such thing as English culture'. I beg to differ. A glorious gift from our forefathers.

inflation data only goes back to 1750. 4 grand then will be worth £1,111,479.43 now. obviously money in 1714 will be worth more than this.
Cool
Nice coverage of the church, That tomb effigy of Elizabeth Carey is quite special especially as it looks so undamaged
It's truly stunning workmanship

So interesting! There are gothic and norman arches tributed on the tower (read it was built post gothic in late 15th) and the norman arch on the door - way cool. The arcading was gothic, but the tops of the pillars reminded me of neo classical - anyone know the history? North aisle was built in 14th. Thanks for the tour!!! ❤

Nice coverage of the church which I have been to a long time ago but did not get inside. The Piddington near Thame is the one I have been to as well. thechurchexporer.blogspot.com/2016/03/st-john-and-st-mary-magdalene.html
The reason for a locked font cover dates back to the 13th century when the Archbishop of Canterbury directed that fonts were to be covered with a lockable 'seal' to stop consecrated water being stolen for magical and medicinal purposes. Covers became increasingly elaborate although most of the medieval ones are now lost.
Thanks Steve I couldn't remember that when filming. Hope you are doing well sir.
@@thechurchexplorer Doing well thanks, Steve. My memory is often sieve like when I need it too!
It’s beautiful and similar to the Anglo Saxon church I did a video on. There’s a few ones like this actually usually in the north.

The stunning St Mary's church in Bottesford.
The victorian windows are by Heaton Butler and Bayne. The single angel is medieval.
Thank you for that very interesting.
Agree totally about the font and lid, another great video thank you 😊
Thanks for your kind comments.
The Mariott connection is interesting. It just goes to show - there is such a thing as 'old money' dynasties.
I was very surprised to find this out in such a remote village in Northamptonshire. Like I say you never know what you will find when you visit a church. Please share it helps me a lot 😁
Looks like cement pointing around the Alter walls. A kind of rough strap pointing. Probably the church had issues with damp and was advised to seal the walls with cement. Problem is the walls should be breathable. Sealing the walls can lead to other issues. Like increasing damp and mould growth. The cement looks like it’s cracking. Makes me wonder if the exterior walls are pointed with cement as well.
Great comment 😁
