Another interesting church with several lovely features. The stonework is striking but would have been plastered originally, what we see today is probably the result of 19th century scraping of the plaster. Hatchments are diamond shaped and the Royal coat of arms is always square and referred to by its name. It would have commonly have been placed over the chancel arch originally. The large mural hanging on the wall is of St Christopher carrying the Christ child. A St Christopher was usually found painted onto the wall adjacent to the most popular entry and exit door. Caroli Dickens is Charles Dickens, Caroli is the Latin spelling of Charles. The crucifixion window at the east end is by Powells of Whitefriars in London. Hugh Cokayne FRITH was the Rector to whom the clear glazed window is dedicated. LLD stands for Doctor of Law. Keep up the good work, I very much enjoy your church visiting.
