How a Picture Led to A Calm Journey in Kagoshima - A Japan Adventure No One Else Will Tell You About
My journey led me to Kagoshima, the southern-most major city in Kyushu, Japan. I have a picture of the city that I really liked, so I set out to find its origin, and that's how an unexpected adventure unfolded.
This is the third episode of 'It's Still Summer in Kyushu', a vlog series where I take you on a 9-day journey across Kyushu.

can i do a reserve seat few days before my departure or reserve can only do at the same day?
As a Japanese person, this video is the best one I would like all foreigners queuing in long lines while staring at route maps on ticket machines at Tokyo Station or Shinjuku Station to watch. By the way, there’s another reason why I recommend IC cards. It’s because of the system known as 'through service,' which is particularly common in Japan’s major cities. It is a system where multiple different railway operators run shared trains, allowing them to seamlessly cross over between lines. For passengers, there is the advantage of not needing to transfer at stations, but there is also the problem that purchasing paper tickets becomes extremely difficult. This is because the fare charts displayed above the ticket machines usually only show the routes of their own railway company. To be honest, I don’t know how to buy tickets when traveling across multiple railway operators, nor do I understand how the fares are calculated. However, with an IC card, the fares are calculated automatically, so there’s no need to worry about that. For this reason, I strongly recommend purchasing an IC card.
Thank you!🥰

your monotonous voice is so soothing that I watch most of your videos for my trip to Japan
I'll take it as a compliment😂
Thank you for the video
Thank you so much for your videos. Love them all! I watched them so many times, RUclips thinks I'm moving to Japan. 🤨
Thank you so much! 😘
How much is one ride on a subway? on a bus? Ar there different kinds of subways? Can i use the same card both for bus and a subway? Working hours? Can multiple people use the same card?
Lmfao at Jackie Chan eating bread while running... 😂😂😂
I downloaded my physical suica card to my phone as a digital card, but can I still top up the physical card if I want to? Or is the card useless now that I registered it digitally on my Iphone wallet? Do I just throw away the physical card? What if I want to use my cash money to load the suica card?
i did this during the day in early october this year and it had a beautiful view but now i wish i did it at night, it doesnt compare even just thru this video
Planning a Kyoto trip next year. So the 1,100 Yen one-day Kyoto pass has been officially discontinued? Great informative video nonetheless.
Hi, if using the JR pass, each time i need to go Ticket kiosk to generate a ticket to the location i need to go ?
If you use unreserved cars can you just insert the pass only into the gate?
Your videos are the best, they are informative but also fun. Before traveling to Japan, I watched several to understand how to get around, and now that I'm back, I enjoy them because I can attest that everything you say is true hahaha. Thanks for these videos, greetings from Chile!

@@Will_Zhao Btw, I'm going to Japan in Spring to see the Cherry Blossoms, but as someone who doesn't like large crowds. Do you have any advice for a good experience? I'm planning to land in Tokyo > Hakuba skiing > Shiragawako > Kanazawa > Kansai > Kyushu. Would love to get your opinion on this, maybe even an idea on how to enjoy Spring in Japan haha
@@Excelsior2043 I was there in spring this year for the cherry blossoms and had mixed feelings for the trip. While the cherry blossoms sure are beautiful, if you plan to visit the common spots, be prepared for overwhelming crowds. There's no way around it. But one larger issue for me was that staring at cherry blossoms...gets old quickly. They were not that different from place to place, and most of those spots didn't have too much going on besides the flowers. I was really starting to get bored two days in. So if there's one piece of advice I need to share, that would be don't plan your entire trip 100% around the cherry blossoms, have days or things to do in between to cleanse your palate so that you don't burn out that easily. Oh and, if you can, don't lock absolutely everything down when you do your planning. The blossoming period can change a lot due to temperature fluctuations and forcasts can be very inaccurate. Instead, try to be flexible so you don't have to commit to an itinerary that doesn't work any more.
@@Will_Zhao Makes perfect sense. Thanks a lot for the advice! I'll be there for 20 days btw, so do you any specific places to recommend?
I really liked the video, I'm from Brazil and I really liked that this video was dubbed, if possible, please continue making this format available.
I watch him from Algeria lol This guy have small audience but big at the same time
F nice!
great Video, however, I travel quite often in Japan for 4-8 weeks, my experience is that the need for reservations is overrated and cumbersome, time consuming and not really necessary. the first three cars on a Shinkansen are non-reserved and there were lots of seats (car one my fav) even during busy times. Besides that, the frequency of trains allows to skip one and take the next one, I really like that flexibility. I like to point out that many Destinations are served by JR lines and other rail companies. So pick your trains carefully to avoid paying extra. one of my companions is the "Japan Railway Travel Atlas" a small but useful booklet showing all lines for exploring the not so common but interesting routes.
F way to leave a bro hanging. Love your content ❤
Can I use Bus & Subway pass to go to Nara and Arashiyama?
Keep Kagoshima to yourselves folks, it doesn't need overtourism. ;) I was there this summer for 6 days, didn't have time for Yakushima. But I specifically did go there to avoid crowded place and tourists and visited the mountains and seashores. I'm trying to find a way to go work in japan, but if I could I would go settle in Kagoshima, this is an incredible prefecture. I would recomend not to go there during summer japanese vacation, a lot of nice places are closed in small towns. (This was my only rergret) If you can drive in japan, do like me, rent a car, this the best way to explore the area, this is deep countryside, you don't really have a choice once you step out of the Kagoshima city. I rented a car for 3 and half day, I loved every minutes of it. People here are very chill and nice, and much more natural than Tokyo. The japanese roads there on the shore and mountains are incredible, if you love to drive you will enjoy it a lot. The small towns of the south and south-west coast are nice and the view of the coastline incredible. The local food is incredibly good either. It is much more "tropical" than the rest of japan. If you plan to go there and want nice spots feel free to ask me. (but a car is recomended)
I get it. Kagoshima has become one of my favourite cities in Japan after this trip. The laid-back vibes, the beautiful climate, the breathtaking landscapes, it just ticks so many boxes. I have more to show about this amazing city in the coming episodes. I can't legally drive in Japan right now, but getting a drivers license in Japan is definitely high on my list. As you've mentioned, I've realised that whenever you are outside of Kansai or Greater Tokyo, your freedom of exploration is heavily limited by the lack of means of transport. There are a ton of places I've marked on my map that I wanted to visit but couldn't because driving wasn't an option. Hopefully that'll change soon.
One of the best way to do the exploration and having a journey rememberable forever
AWWWW...... that sucks the ferry got cancelled. I hope you have PLAN B or C as a backup. Kyushu is beautiful. I did a Whole Japan tour by using the 3 week Whole JR pass. I spent a week in Kyushu and I enjoyed it the most out of the four islands. I cant wait to see your future videos in Kyushu. Stay safe!😊
Some of your shots could be scenes in a Ghibli movie. Or maybe that's just how Japan is. Either way, I completely lose myself in these videos. ❤
Do you live in Japan?
No.
Wow this is nicely done! Im going to turn on my notifications to your channel so i dont miss the part 2 ❤
Thank you! I really should have put it in the title but this is actually part 3 of the series, go check them out if you like while I work on the next episode😉
what camera are you using?
Lol, I was about to comment on how you're insane to try to do a single day in yakushima, then I made it to the end of the video... Yup cancellations all the time, incredible place though hope you make it!
Woah what an ending, looking forward to the next one.😊 I really like your videos theyre so calming and also informative. Like the one about transportation in osaka to kyoto and nara really was so helpful. I am going to japan next year and watching your videos has been really great, its making me want to go for an adventurous solo trip too 😂. Thanks bro. 👍🏼
What is your camera set up?
What the ... this cliffhanger is too much for me !!! But that's exactly how it should be. Thanks for this chilled video. Kyushu is on my bucket list for the next trip.
I just want to say that your videos have inspired me for my first ever solo trip that I'll be taking in a few months. While I'll mainly be in the Tokyo area and am no stranger to Japan, I was worried about the loneliness that comes with traveling alone. I may not be straying too far off the beaten path, but I'm going to do my best to treat it as much of an adventure as you do on your trips.
First time I see your videos and I’m absolutely in love with your format and style. The way you savor the world around you and the beauty you see in the most mundane places is great. Keep it up the great work man.
F I love everything about this video, your voice narration, editing, and videography. It's fabulous.
nice editing, footage, and story telling :)

awesome font (handwritten?) on the text in this video! really gave it a homemade feel. In addition, your voiceover is lovely and wonderful cinematography. Hope you enjoyed your travels! the islands of japan are my next bucketlist trip!
Man, this was a beautiful video. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series.
9:57 i love peaceful and quiet places! xd NOOOOOOOOOOOO the ferry..... I was actually about to say I'm one to try crazy new ideas but I'd never thought of commuting with a cargo ferry... holy shit
