    Hey, this is weird - I embarked on a similar journey around 3 months ago. I had a ulna side injury that meant that ceratin sloper and angles were just not possible I started a whole wrist strengthening regime very similar to yours - I've found real improvements in the actual injury - it now occasionally gets triggered but then calms down quickly - the frequency of this is decreasing though. What I've really noticed is a stark improvement in my climbing ability - its like the wrist strength has supercharged the finger strength, I feel way more powerful on all kinds of holds, little crimps, slopers - everything. I've been doing climbs that had always eluded me before, and I've been climbing at a reasonable level for 30 years., Its wild! e.g. ruclips.net/video/r6Q7gcdi7dU/видео.html - I'd never come close in the past and I did it 4th go on toprope. I like your extensor curls - i've not been doing them. I'll add them in and report back. p.s. I've been absolutely been rinsing the training on my shoulders too - so this isn't the only factor

    • @TheJustinConnor
      @TheJustinConnor 8 дней назад

      Lots to unpack there lol. Love to hear that you’ve seen progress and that’s pretty awesome that the wrist (and maybe shoulder) strength has made you feel stronger across the board! Kinda makes sense that the shoulders and wrists will go together - with the elbow being only a simple joint in between - if one has an issue it could pass it along to the other. I’m going to keep experimenting as well. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching 🙏

    I have no wrist pain. However, particularly my right hand will go numb at night, and I'll wake up periodically to shake it awake. i know it's carpal tunnel but i'm looking for a way to alleviate it naturally. i'm also wondering if it's why i have such a weak grip strength. i've been climbing for a couple years now, 4-5x a week, every week, and i feel like my grip has barely improved. I wonder if it's due to my carpal tunnel or if it's something else?

    • @TheJustinConnor
      @TheJustinConnor 9 дней назад

      The fact that it happens at night makes me think a wrist or elbow guard for sleep could help. Complicated stuff with the nerves tho, worth trying to figure it out with a doc. Hope it gets better for you!

    • @telkmx
      @telkmx 7 дней назад

      same i wake up at night with numb hand. A hand specialist told me its carpal tunnel and that there are no exercises that can alleviate but i dont believe it. It’s possible to lengthen any soft-ish tissue in the body and its one of them that is tensioned so :)

      @@telkmx that's my thinking. I do know that staying well hydrated helps quite a bit. Keeping those tendons well lubricated makes a big difference for me. Also, when i stretch it out really well, that also helps. It just sux to constantly have to go through these extra steps every time before a climbing session.

    I did this exact routine (almost) for about a 6 weeks with progressive overload. It was helpful but it was boring didn't seem to cure the problem. Wrists are complicated!!

  • @Arunnn241
    @Arunnn241 10 дней назад

    I second all the wrist exercises. But, whenever I stretch my wrists, it always flairs up wrist pain. When I don't stretch, my wrists tend to handle everything I throw at them just fine. Maybe stretching wrists before exercise is bad but after is good but IDK. Also for laptop work, if you already have a monitor setup, then buy a separate keyboard! It doesn't have to be an ergonomic fancy one. Just having a keyboard that spaces out the keys more and loosens up your shoulders instead of them being pulled inward to fit the short width of your laptop keyboard can help a ton.

    • @TheJustinConnor
      @TheJustinConnor 10 дней назад

      That’s interesting about the stretching. At one point I felt like maybe I was stretching too much but mostly it’s been far too little I think. 😂 I do have a separate keyboard, I just didn’t make the adjustments for the video out of laziness. Some of the best rock out there! I do like bouldering by myself - although I’m psyched to get back to Colorado in April to be back with my boulder buds - and some of these are pretty tall… Honestly tho, they are all pretty chill up top. When I am alone, I really take a long time climbing up and down boulders until I am comfortable with the moves to take it to the top. I’m also much better than your average climber at ground falls 🤷‍♂️. With the combo of patience, falling technique and a good pad setup, I never push it too much out of my comfort zone

    • @TheJustinConnor

    Man, this hit way to close to home. I've been having issues since late May, early June... I'm definitely in the frantic youtube search phase right now. Might have some ulnar nerve entrapment going on with it as well. It's frustrating because I'm just getting into lead climbing outdoors after being an indoor only boulder gumby for 5 years, and I really feel like what I need to get better at lead is longer sessions and lower volume for my endurance to pickup. Why oh why couldn't I have gotten into climbing at 18 when my body would be primed for recovery. It's good to hear from your experience because it really validates my own. My current plan is to keep trying those strengthening exercises (as a warm up for my 2 sessions a week and then my 1 day of strength training at home).. and I guess I'll have to keep my sessions shorter. Best of luck.

    • @TheJustinConnor
      @TheJustinConnor 28 дней назад

      Sorry you’re dealing with that. It’s a real annoyance when you are trying to progress. I think finding ways to get more volume is the hardest thing. If you get out of the pain cycle and get really strong though, I am sure you can work some in, just may take a year or two. I haven’t worked any real volume or endurance training lately, so hard to know, but it’s been some time since I’ve felt any elbow pain… My plan was to do more handstands as someone commented that had really helped “cure” their climbers elbow but now it’s the wrists that I’m rehabbing lol so that’ll have to wait for now

    I like that advice for giving yourself a list to follow before doing something scary. being a little inspired by the jumps I was able to get out for some. Are there any methods for not biffing your flips on a cliff dive. I was trying new stuff off a short jump and I managed to slap my balls on the water just right during a side flip and on a botched back full the river slapped me in face pretty good.

    • @TheJustinConnor
      @TheJustinConnor Месяц назад

      That’s sweet dude! Hmm, well I’ve biffed it a few times myself too. I feel like it’s mostly getting the timing of the height you are jumping from, so even if you don’t know where you’re at in your flip you still know when you’re about to hit the water. That said, my last double side flip was pretty bad and I took a face full of water and now I’m a little scared for the next one 🤷‍♂️

Just getting to the first bolt is interesting in itself, the finish on the arete is exposed, airy and worth the price of admission alone, and the perch on top is unique.
