After my first outdoor bouldering session, which was awesome, I still can't imagine how gym climbing would ever be ruined for me! It just gives you that many more options for climbing!

That’s the right attitude! Ruined isnt the right word… but I did stop falling asleep thinking about my plastic projects lol. 😂 The gym becomes the place for preparation rather than performance IMO

Just sounds like to me that the grading isn't comparable in a gym vs a rock. I'm a beginner who can only just do a V1 in the gym and honestly this was kinda disheartening or a reality check for me going with my friends outdoor climbing next month for the first time that I'm just not going to find a climb I'm capable of doing.

Gym grades are way off for sure, but I think the time commitment is one of the biggest differences… for example, I expect to flash most V4s in the gym but outside could be a multi session project, but once the beta is dialed it can sometimes kinda still feel like a hard V4 lol

The hardest part of bouldering (outdoor) for me is that I never feel like I can get into a flow. It’s like speed dating the rock.
Also 2:39 looks like hell on earth.

lol yeah I know what you mean. The taller easy ones are quite good for that but also come with a bit of risk… lol 2:39 😂 I know…

😂 they are so hard for V1! Would definitely recommend another go on In The Beginning. When you find the right little crimpy spots to hit down low it starts to come together quick and is a really fun climb

Also I got a horrific v1 for you at elephant rock state park in missouri. It’s called knob job and has one hold (a knob) on a 15+ foot blank slab. Fun stuff. I never sent it.

Yes, but you can train indoors until early September. I usually start going outdoors before the season starts to get acclimatized to outdoor climbing. Takes me about 3-5 sessions to get used to moving outside.
