Caffeine junkies

A very sad story. China Oolong is without doubt the nicest and healthiest tea you could possible want and most people in Britain today have never eve tasted it. The low low quality of British tea is why everyone has switched to coffee (but god knows that could be better too). I now either import direct from China or if I run out I drink dried nettles (for which we can thank the Romans).

A bit like the Indians have been dyeing Tumeric with Lead Acetate to make it more yellow !

Tea is being poisoned now, it's being washed with fluoride. Extremely high levels of toxic fluoride.

Starbucks is the best place to go if one wants over roasted coffee or woody flavored teas turned into heavily sugared milk shakes with extra whipped cream and drizzled caramel syrup for the price of a meal at a modestly priced restaurant.

here is my take. Spanish and portuguese in New world didn't really drink it since it wasn't popular in Spain and Portugal. Plus the stench of anything British would have repelled them from embracing it since they were enemies

The way I look at it is it wherever England had colonies, Tea caught on. So the bigger question is why did Tea catch on in England and not in Spain or Portugal who also had overseas colonies?

You should do an episode about how coffee used to slaves for its entire production. It is truly a blood beverage and nobody in the coffee industry ever talks about it. Because they don’t want us to know.

I’m like you. I find the history of Tea to be fascinating.

It’s not just Spain. Most of the European continent did not catch on with Tea. Coffee got more popular at same time and caught on

What is this "gypsum blue" you speak of? As a solid state chemist, I have never heard of it. Gypsum itself is neither blue nor poisonous. Have I misunderstood you? Or is this an (unusual) name for another pigment, maybe cobalt blue or copper sulfate?

Was this before or after the Opium Wars?
