We have a mix of gear on us, both stuff from the 1800's and also some early 1900's gear. A NEW Australian BUSHCRAFT Channel
I feel proud to be an aussie living in the country. Even with the billion flies, the high 40'c weather, the dust, lizards, spiders and snakes. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Its the best country in the world with the best people. I can only imagine the conditions the Pioneers used to live in. I couldn't deal with no fly spray or air conditioner and an outside dunny... Aussie Aussie Aussie.
I’d love to see more videos with the A Frame tent!
That horseshoes facing the wrong way you're letting all the luck out
Thanks for this video, I have learned so much from you. Thank you and keep on keeping on👍 PS love the dog 🐕 😂❤❤
Thanks heaps for watching I appreciate that. And Bingo is doing well!
To improve the chimney double the iron, put a rock at the base middle and top as a spacer (wired in) and create a cavity between the two layers. Nice little hut.
Cheers mate, yeah I'm going to work on the chimney and make it rain proof as well as a stone fire place on the inside.
@ In that case I’d better subscribe, wouldn’t want to miss seeing that. Cheers
We had one in the 1970s for driving through Arizona and other deserts. I remember one time after a long, freeway drive at high speed (and with the near 0% humidity in our deserts) it actually formed some ice crystals inside! Sadly the plastic portion on ours split and it no longer worked. I've been looking for new ones... looks like I'll have to order from Australia! BTW, I have no idea if it works, but I've seen more than one post online saying that you should boil them in sugar-water to help cure them.
Thanks for that, another tip! I wonder if you can find some vintage ones over in the states? We only have one company here making new ones.
This was a spectacularly cinematic video mate beautiful landscapes in that part of Victoria.
Thanks mate I appreciate it.
This is such a cool idea, Ive just purchased 5 acres and me and my little family are starting to build a little farm to live off grid, at least as much as possible. I might have to add bark shed to my list of things to build.
That sounds like a fantastic lifestyle you are going to live. I live on a farm as well with my family and my parents, and we try to grow some of our own food. It's a great way to live.
Why don’t you target the carp?
Yup, since it is a very poor trout season, I'm going to change my mindset and target carp here on in. It's cause mud marlin (as they are also known) is usually a pretty bad tasting fish .. though I hear these clear water streams hold some decent tasting carp.
You sure know how to show off Victoria Luke. Thanks for the trip bro
Hey mate thanks for watching. I just got back from a big trip where I put the woolen blanket and the knife to the test! Both of them worked great and I can't wait to show the vid.
@@TheBeardedBushranger Awesome bro. I am interested to see them in action lol. Great to the knife has finally got some bush time. It just sat in a draw in my house lol.
As the impoverished population built bark clad shacks, the other slaves were supposedly building huge monumental structures for the elites 😂yeah nah his-story is pretty much all lies 😢
Your comment confused me so much I got a headache.
Nice one, Luke. Cool country.
The production quality on this video is unreal. Really liked the drone shot! Such a fantastic country we live in. Cheers cobba
Cheers mate thanks for watching. It's a bloody beaut country we live in.
Swageys in Australia are respected in America hobos are unfortunately hated and states are making camping on public land felony charges to target the least wealthy people in society.
Yeah it's getting harder and harder here too. The government is slowly putting more and more laws in place to stop this kind of camping, and restrict us all to little neat blocks in an established drive in campsite.
Stop killing animals. Disgusting this day and age.
High country is brilliant. But cold. Very cold.
Yeah even in the warmer months it can get chilly at night.
They made the corrugation. They rolled them by hand to shape the flat sheets. Was first for building Ramparts frilled fill rubble. Fast bult fortifications
Thank You!
Thanks for watching.
Well done my friend brings back my childhood of me and my best mates trying to build the ultimate fort to hang out in and just enjoy the weekend in our secret hideout and enjoying the simplicity of it all never quite got to that standard but did try i guess we never really grow up you also made the ultimate deer hunting hunting stand which is a bonus well done cheers 🍻
That's so good mate. I grew up making bush forts as well. Come to think about it I've been building like bush shacks all through out my life haha. But nothing to this level until now. It's always good fun for a camp out in.
🤍🖤🤎💜💙💚💛🧡❤
Another great video. Keep doing what you’re doing and ignore the haters.
Thank you very much.
Watch out for the drop bears mate
I eat the drop bears!
another ripper vid mate, shame about the trout - next time!
Hard season for trout that's for sure. I just got back from the high country and finally caught one little trout haha
Inspiring
Thanks for watching.
Good looking tent mate, just need to roll it around in the dirt for a bit to make it look used. What a location, thanks for sharing the trip it was great
Thanks for watching. Genuinly liking the tent. I'd love to take it out in the snow during winter and convert it into a hot tent.
Beautiful video, excellent recommends. Reckon you could catch a carp on light monofilament line tho, just gotta set the drag really light and play it carefully with the rod. Obvs gotta be close to the rod so they don't make off with it under a snag.
Yeah I reckon you could. I was running a really 100 reel and really light braid (with a mono leader), no way that was going to hold a carp. Next river trip I'll bring a stronger settup and target some carp.
Lovely spot. I wonder if you could hot tent that with a small fire box. Even a candle might have helped, with the door down a bit. A mate catches and eats carp, and the way he preps it makes it delicious. Thin fillets soaked in milk and salt a few hours, then cooked. And that isn't muddy water at all. If we can work out good ways to eat carp, we can go much longer in the bush. Dunno if powdered milks could work..
I like what you are thinking Leigh! This could be a great option for a little hot tent. Then I don't have to carry multiple blankets to keep warm. So I have been reading about how trout season is very bad this year all the way from Tassie up to NSW because of the cormorants picking of the yearlings. I'm actually changing my frame of mind after this trip .. instead of targeting trout (which is not really around) or native fish like bass (which are getting more and more threatened) I will start targeting carp since they are an absolute pest and the only good carp in Australia is a dead carp haha
Let's find out how to eat them good and yum.
Is there any Gold panning to be done there? We dig down into the iron sand / black sand and pan areas like that when the water is low. Great Video Luke!
So on this particular river it's not allowed (so many rivers in Victoria that prospecting is not allowed) but further upstream another river about the same size flows into this one which is legal .. and I definantly will be getting into gold panning for future videos (in fact I'm getting a hold of a vintage gold pan this week)
@ Look for black sand. There’s a creek (Jack Wade) up in the Forty Mile mining district here in Alaska, which some guys started reworking. They dug into a bend of the creek with their bulldozer, exposing about a 50 ft swath of black sand in the creek bank. It was visible from the road, and they immediately put up a fence around their claim, with a security guy signing people in and out. It’s fun even if you just get a small fleck, or two, at a time!
love this
Guess it’s not the swagman way, but it would be good to see you learning from indigenous tradition and showing us how to forage for subsistence. Were there any swag-women?
You can watch this video that has more of a focus on indigenous bushcraft: ruclips.net/video/ueBsLYkcihs/видео.html
I have never found any records of a swag-woman. Though it's not impossible .. for the most part, women would never of wondered on the road alone from town town.
Nice one Luke - makes me really mad about those carp mate. You'd have to feel like getting in there and taking potshots at them with a 22 just to reduce the numbers
haha I've seen people bow hunting carp which looks fun. in the morning I was able to get so close to them, I almost scooped one out of the water.
Great video Luke, yeah impossible to sleep once the shivers kick in , had to go the full hard core old timers bush camp in the end by the fire 🔥 just as well your hardened to the elements mate,😂 makes great content on the plus side though, look forward to the next one 👍
Yeah I've ended up getting much more used to just sleeping on the ground next to a fire going all night! Thanks for watching.
Im no carpenter, but if you use hold the hammer at the very end you can drive nails in harder with less strikes meaning less effort, same sort of concept with a block splitter/axe
Cheers mate .. problem is you actually need to have a good aim to do that 😂
Ever consider a cotton mesh pup tent or tipi for the summer? Mesh netting has been around hundreds of years and configured into tents. Wouldn't be too far off from your goal of camping with traditional materials. I'd imagine a few enterprising lads dragged out mosquito net from a bed somewhere and camped out in it.
Yeah I've been looking at the old U.S military pup tents as well. So far Homecamp look pretty good for new tents that have that style .. I'd love their style of tents without the vynal floor though. But otherwise I think they have great stuff.
As always Luke great vid and awesome location. Not much trout around VIC and NSW at the moment unfortunately. In NSW we had a hot late summer and lost the stocked fingerlings. Keep up the good work!
Thanks mate, I've been hearing the same thing for down in Tasmania as well. Aparently a lot of cormorants around that have taken the fingerlings as well. I might have to go for carp
Awesome vid man, so well put together! You've gained another subscriber for life.
Awesome mate, thanks heaps for watching and subscribing. Plenty more vids to come.
I dont know why yt pushed this video to me as its nothing like i usually watch but i really enjoyed it and have since watched most of your orher videos. Taken my kids camping a bunch of times but now i feel like getting some alone time in the bush would be good for me.
That's great to hear! Thanks for watching. I actually love taking my kids camping as well, that can be pretty special to do.
Awesome video mate. Question for you. I live in South Australia and can't find an authentic water bag anywhere. Any thoughts?
Marketplace and etsy are good for second hand bags. Otherwise you can order a new bag from trailblazers. They are not exactly like the original water bags, but close enough. I've actually been thinking of hand making my own myself.
Thanks for that, have a great day mate
Dude, what is it? It's a couple of litres of fuel , I know google taxes the hell out of you blokes.
Well it's a couple of litres of fuel to go towards my upcoming trip this week!! Camping like a bushranger in a secret mountain shack 😆
Do ever think about maybe linking your PayPal?, or some other direct payment method??
Get some direct Christmas money coming in... it's just a thought.
@@KiwiBrew77 I could put a link on my youtube. I know I have a linktree list which has my paypal.
Really enjoyed this magical spot Luke, do you pick spots on a map or do you go recomendations from friends? Looking forward to more trips mate!
Yeah I scour google earth for potential spots, I check to see if it's in national park or state forest and then research the rules for that area. Then I look at access points and how far I need to drive in to get there. Many of the spots I go to now are in the general area I have camped in before and I have wanted to scope out these other places for a while.
Hi Mate, what are the boots your wearing, remind me of American type boots.🙂
No worries, these are XTM snow boots
Another great video Luke. You should give the Carp a go it’s actually a good fish when prepared properly and you have the pristine water there to ensure the best tasting carp. Plenty of recipes available for you to try when camping out bush. We even have it as our main dish at Christmas 👍
Yeah I'm starting to think this way as well. Most of my fishing learning has been around how to target trout or bass .. I have no idea how I would target carp but I am going to start learning.
ripper as always mate.
Thanks mate.
That mist coming off the river in the morning bbrrrr looks cold. Another great video. Legal size for bass near me is 35 cm (nsw) 27cm seems more realistic as ive lost track of the fish we have had to throw back lol-pls keep up the great work
There you go. Funny how the laws can have such a vairent from state to state. I know there are other coastal fish that in Vic has to be over 30cm, yet there is no size limit for that fish up on the nsw coast.
I've got a big double swag that weighs at least 15k but that lil tent sounds way easier. Even at 8k would still be blissfull compared to the darche Gonna have to check out peak oil for that lambskin. Looks comfy as
Yeah mate, I actually think this solo view tent is a great settup even for car camping. Under an awning it would a beauty and it just as quick to set up as a big swag I would say.
@TheBeardedBushranger i do love room to move when I'm sleeping. I get claustrophobic in small swags but weight is always an issue with actually carrying it anywhere. I suppose if you want to properly rough if then you can't have it both ways. Lol
Im new to this channel but was totally impressed with the content. I dont think i could ever learn too much about bushcraft skills.
Oh thanks heaps for watching, I appreciate that.
Really disappointed you killed a wild bass.
Fair enough, it's within the law to catch bass at 27cms and obviously there is a reason to that. I always stick within the law with what I do .. but everyones going to have different opinions and what should or shoudln't be done.
Nice one Luke . one good thing about freezing your ass of all night, is it got you up early to get some great shots of the fog lifting off the water . Happy camping :)
haha yeah but once the sun hits and you started warming up, you kind of want to stay lying down and catch up on all the sleep you missed. But yes the fog on the water was too much for me and I had to get up.
Keep up good work. Kia Ora from Aotearoa.
Thanks mate! I've only ever been to the south island, but it really was a beautiful place.
I love you because you hold on to the old school traditions just like me, old school is the best. ❤
Thanks for that. Yeah I reckon there a lots of lessons to learn and we should hold onto those old ways.
