Interesting interpretation of the gang order... It's always fun reading people's theories for why they chose a specific way to tackle each gang. Lin being undercover does sound like the perfect reason for doing the other gangs before taking on the Rollers.

I miss when developers put out worthwhile demos. Those definitely would get you hyped for the full game!

The release of Saint's Row 2 meant that Volition had every chance in the world to capitalize on its success with a kickass sequel. They had NO reason in the world to willingly fuck it up, but of course they decided to anyways. You had no idea how hyped I was when I heard that there when the SReboot trailer got announced. Watched it on break during my 8-hour shift at work and was heartbroken. Everyone was expecting a return to form from the long-dormant franchise, in a console generation where there aren't many GTA clones left. Shaundi and Gat's off-screen relationship was very bizarre. They'd only interacted on maybe 2 occasions and that was it. Everyone else's lack of concern over Gat's death was also comedically out of character lmao. I also wish the funeral attack happened when Johnny was getting buried, as a way to pay homage to the Ronin's attack on Aisha's funeral. Hope you enjoy the other retrospectives too! @lunarnocturne i agree, I remember when I saw the announcement trailer pop up on my phone and immediately jumped in anticipation, but after watching the trailer I felt deflated, as it felt volition were trying to capitalize on the Fortnite craze, particularly in the art style of the game and even the combat to a certain degree; just more janky than Fortnite. And volition terrible responses to fans feedback left a sour taste and further cemented that we'll never see a true comeback to saints row which is heartbreaking since i grew up playing the first four games (including gat out of hell) and love this franchise to bits. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing your retrospective on saints row four, that'll be a masterpiece seeing you articulate into words the bat shit crazy story in that game lol.

When I made the Infamous 1 vid, I had plans on covering the comics before making the Infamous 2 vid, but I scrapped the idea, since another youtuber (Zivalene) did a better job than I would have.

Yeah the fight for Saint's Row was all for naught. Julius was an ambitious man with noble ideals, but he forgot to keep his crew in check, which is why they turned into his dreaded fear, "Vice Kings wearing purple." Over time, I've come to view Troy in a somewhat better light. While undercover, he had every chance in the world to just arrest everyone and go on about his day, but he didn't. It's nice that he repays Boss through "favors" such as ensuring Johnny's safety in prison and asking the prison hospital to keep him alive. It's also funny how Julius wanted to fight against the impending gentrification of Saint's Row but sold out to Ultor and became part of the then-ongoing problem, as Ultor was about to expand and gentrify more of south Stilwater and (presumably) drive up the price of housing and displace the lower and middle-class residents living there. Julius had no heart.

I remember waking up with a bad hangover after a night of drinking when I was 17 and uttering those same words lmao. So many quotable lines from this game.

I do wonder if the color purple was chosen during development of the first game as a homage to the Ballas in San Andreas.

@@lunarnocturne believe it or not the Saints originally were going to be green. The grove street families were supposed to be orange, I’m pretty sure they still use a loading screen with cj in the orange outfit.

@@lunarnocturne like she might have saw the conduits die at the ending of Infamous 2 and thought the government killed them and never learned what truly happened to them, and seem to think the government did it,and it’s part of the sentence she said before her final fight with Delsin. And that’s my theory, but it’s the best I can think of since she never mentioned the RFI or have the country know what happened with the conduits who died at the ending of Infamous 2

It's a game I always come back to every few years, and when I do, every new playthrough feels like I'm playing the game for the first time again.

I also played this series backwards! Started with SR3 in 2011 (although I messed around in the open-world in SR2 a couple years back), played SR2 seriously in 2012, and then got my hands on a copy of SR1 that same year. Saints Row 1 is my favorite in the franchise mainly because of how grounded it feels in terms of atmosphere. The gameplay is also some of my favorite (although the addition of checkpoints would be nice). Glad you enjoyed this video, man!

As time went on, I started viewing Troy in a somewhat "better" light. He repaid Boss and Gat for their troubles all those years ago. He doesn't have much to gain from going against them outside of making new enemies.

Atlus did a poll back in 2020/21 for feedback from fans and Digital Devil Saga showed up in the poll quite a few times in regards to a remaster. Hopefully they follow through!

Eh, I'd say just get it. It's also a good time to get any of the PS2 SMT games too, since the closure of the PS3 store could happen at any time. No FOMO though!

During the ressarch process, I had NO idea that this game got an adaptation many years later. DDS is so underrated but there is hope for a remaster. Back in 2020/21, I did a poll from Atlus asking what players would like to see from SMT, and DDS showed up in the questions multiple times.

@@lunarnocturne Yeah the fanbase is dedicated to this game. I remember trying to order the novel to the bookstore I worked at but none of the distributors had it. But it’s also just funny the relation Megten and books have in general
