      Hey mate, thanks for the sub! And yep that’s the same lathe as I have been using, it’s a cool machine for the money! And yeah that would be cool, I’m planning a “lathe upgrades “ kind of deal and that would fit in there nicely, it might be a couple of videos away, but sounds like a fun thing to work through.

    Also might be worth stripping your top slide, look for burrs and then carefully tighten the gib strip and lube well with some way oil. It seemed to be a little harder to keep smooth than it could be even doing it manually.

    • @nomadhandcrafted
      @nomadhandcrafted 8 дней назад

      Yeah that’s something I have actually done since filming the video, before cutting the taper I could feel a little movement in the cross slide and over tightened the gibs to compensate, I pulled it down the other day and it did need a little love. But took me ages to figure it out at the time 😂 appreciate the feedback though 🙏

    • @nomadhandcrafted

      Go for it, be that guy! I usually bring it in until it runs true, and then just bump it until it moves ever so slightly to the other side and hit zero. Should I be letting it run out further on the other side?

      @what9n6 Месяц назад

      @nomadhandcrafted I haven't used spiraled taps before myself. I have great luck with straight ones. The lubricant you use when tapping is like 50% of the issue . Also always use a sharp tap. The softer the metal the sharper the tap you want. Other wise it rips and tears threads.

      @@nomadhandcrafted google for how to drill copper - soft materials like copper need different rake, different bit angle, different speeds, correct choice of coolants.. Some experiments on drilling different metals and different hole sizes etc would make at least one worthwhile video. Some of the best engineering research comes from making careful measurements and records of purposely pushing stuff to its breaking point. Oh, and the German Copper Institute publishes a 68 page book on the engineering details of machining copper and copper alloys. Lay down a strip on your workpiece and the surface you're trying to hold it to, then throw down a bead of CA glue and accelerator. No more peeling, ever. Usually holds faster than double sided tape too. Nice build, the blue paint on the RHS gave me nightmares haha

      Thanks very much. I am saving my pennies for a proper cabinet saw that has a bigger work surface in general. And as for the dowels, unfortunately the throat on that little bandsaw wouldn't let me trim the dowels down, I have picked up a flush trim saw since filming, but unfortunately it was late at night at the time and just wanted to get a little more work done. But thanks for checking it out, and appreciate the feedback
