Ngl as a parent with ADHD you lost me at the dowels 😂
Thank you I wish teachers watch this video 🙌🫶🏼
And here is my son who does not give a damn even about Y 🤣
❤
Thank you so much. I appreciate how balanced your stance is between strengths and challenges. My 8 yo just got diagnosed with severe ADHD, combined form. He has the biggest heart and would never hurt a fly. Material things, however, have been broken, and when he "locks" there's no rewind button. We just have to wait it out and try to find alternative ways to handle similar situations in the future, in order to avoid ending up with the same result next time. He has huge challenges in school bco his inability to focus etc. But he's also been fluent in English since he was three, and he's been able to read English for the last year or so. English is not our first language, and he is self-taught. Thanks for that, RUclips Kids!
My problem is I am too afraid to close my eyes because I kind of have these flashy nightmares while being awake. I think I’m hallucinating or something or maybe it’s something else but when I close my eyes for a while the dark attacks me for like 5 seconds and I can’t scare am for help or move I’m literally paralysed it’s so scary I can’t even move but then after a few seconds it is normal. Then it happens again when I close my eyes. I’m so scared 😢
How do you get the school to educate the teachers more so they get a deeper understanding of ADHD. I feel like general education teachers don’t really know what it is. And so they give punishments to our children like they would a child without it. 😢
Please can you stop overlaying music because it’s really hard to concentrate on what you are saying.
I went to Google if bluey has adhd after watching mini bluey this morning. I really think she does and all of this is intentional in the cartoon. Yes this won't be obvious to NT people especially those who don't know girls/women with it. Adhd women/girls are not typically as hyperactive on the outside, but inside, through the talking, singing, humming, constant flow of ideas, and the need for new games to play. It's all out there. I relate to bluey a lot and I love the show. Thank you for this video!
Thank you for this video! I have an appt with my son’s pediatrician to see if she thinks he has ADHD. I’m like 99.99% sure he does. When I read about adhd or listen to videos like this, it’s like it was written about my son. It describes him exactly. He has every symptom of the disorder. I have ocd, my sister-in-law and nephew have adhd and we have lots of family members with anxiety. My son also has tics. This video gives me some hope. I wish I had this video years ago. It’s been a long journey of frustration and stress.
For some reason it for work for my 9 year old. She is in the 4th grade and she doesn’t like her teacher. She is scared of her. Every morning she we struggle to go to school. I tried “then what”, “ even if” she still in the same state of mind. Don’t know what else to say or do. Everyday same thing.
Thanks for sharing 😊
I have combined but people think I'm just impulsive and don't have adhd they just need to see my doctor
Extremely useful video... I am v.preoccupied... Working on all that you say...also Read comments... When people share..it makes a lot of difference... Dr. V.thoughtful of you.. God bless ❤😊
Why is “masking” not seen as simply learning to cope or overcome the struggles? How do you help someone understand the difference?
Would it be traumatizing for a kid with separation anxiety to spend a week away from his parents to be at the beach with his older brother, aunt and uncle? I am an aunt and I have a great relationship with my two nephews ages 6 and 4. The younger one is experiencing separation anxiety and still sleeps in the bed with his parents. He will occasionally stay the night with his grandparents but we have never been allowed to see how he does staying with me and my husband. We always have great days with the kids and often have to give big hugs when their parents won’t let them come home with us. The kids don’t have routines or structure in their daily lives but we hope that with extended time with aunt and uncle they have enjoy little windows into a calmer lifestyle. The older kid seems to have really responded to our influence and has not problems staying the night with us but we don’t want to limit his opportunities to spend time with us or exclude his younger brother because of his anxiety. Thank you for the time and effort in your videos! I’ve shared them with my family on multiple occasions!!
Not me crying the whole video
My issue is not at home…his behavior issues are only at school. I am helpless when I get information from school that he’s throwing a tantrum in his 1st grade class
I'm going through the same thing with my daughter
My son has been having a problem with stealing things from school and rummaging through my wife's things and taking them. He is also lying a lot. We are really getting fed up and don't know what to do. Ou relationship with him is NOT good at the moment. What do you suggest
Good video. Its hard to speak so generally. I hope we remember that the individual may differ. For example, for some kids, too much praise as a trend over time can be harmful instead of helpful.
If one more person tells me to add another reminder to my calendar, I'm going to scream. I have ADHD, too, and one more thing 'binging' at me destroys my focus and is overstimulating. And how many of us (parents) also have neurodiversity? Probably lots. Give me something besides "set another reminder." 100 percent agree on complimenting and shining a light on what they do well. That's worked wonders - and it's helped us focus less on the little "screw ups" like spills and "forgets" because it provides perspective.
I think she's saying you should take this as seriously as anything you would set a really urgent reminder for. It can make that big of a difference in your life to dedicate time officially to play with your child in a "child- led" way
She's saying put it in your calendar. Prioritize it. Set an alarm if that works for you otherwise just prioritize and make time for it as a serious commitment
I really want to try special time with my 7 year old, but she always wants me to tell her what to do and come up with play ideas. She usually says she doesn't have any ideas. How can I correct this? Additionally, I am severely time strapped. Is it OK to set a timer for special time? If so, how do I stick to the time without making my child feel pushed into a corner?
Camera movement is distracting.
How do I get my daughter to talk about her feeling an thought. Instead ... she falls silent and no matter how I speak to her.. she goes deeper within herself
How do I get my 8 year old daughter to not ignore me.?
Guys, I’m telling you, This girl is SO underrated ❤
I dont think my kid is neurodivergent but i have autism and adhd and im parenting alone. I get disability which is a blessing but im w her 24/7 and have limited transportation so she gets bored on the ranch w me all the time. Im hoping to start a rural homeschool coop so she can make more friends after a move this summer from southern to northern az. I have ptsd and i am not a huge fan of grown ups, kids are cool but the parents are hard. I dont know how to do this and i want to do my best for her. At the same time i feel like everything is for her and i never get a break to rest my nervous system. She is approaching 4 and suddenly refusing to listen to me. As in she will not stop pestering the dog. I try to get her to see how he is responding and try to use the clues to make the right choice. If he is growling that is his way of saying stop. She just thinks its funny and keeps right up. I tried rehoming the dog and noone wanted him. Finally i told her that if she didnt stop then id have to take him to the pound and explained that if noone wanted to give him a home then he would get killed. What am i supposed to do? We are in a one room cabin. I went back to using a star sticker reward chart which just gets out of hand. She wants these dumb plastic lol dolls that are 10 bucks a pop and when she does earn one at the end of the week then she wants a second one. How do i make this work? I totally did just recently try to lean into putting our relationship first by letting her stay up later, which means sleeping in later and having a more relaxed morning instead of constantly pressuring her to hurry up and get out the door. Yes there are mornings that the horses and donkeys and cows dont get fed until 10 am but at least im not constantly prodding my kid which drains my energy and puts me in a bad mood. I dont know what im doing wrong.
Thank you for sharing these videos. Trying to support our awesome daughter who struggles so much from ADHD. Your tips are so pertinent and super helpful practically- for her AND us, her tired parents ❤
Thank you so much! You are such a blessing ❣️
Does telling them To keep things in its place like shoes work for teenagers.... As kids we parents were working...so couldn't train and didn't know all these problems And Does taking care of oneself mean To keep oneself updated or Keeping oneself wellgroomed etc Pl explain Dr
I think It's not to Procrastinate...I hv become by Circumstances 😅
Self-care can include many things. In this video, I focused on how letting go of something frees up more of your time and energy, reducing stress.
Ok@@DoctorJacque
Dr Pl tell me Does your advice help for Teenagers? Or its late?
You always have the choice to make changes in what you're doing. All of these can apply to teenagers too. You may just need to make some tweaks to the language you use so it's appropriate for an older child :-)
@@DoctorJacque Thanks for your reply 👍
I have two ADHD teens - diagnosed as teens. No, not too late. I don't know your situation, but start with decreasing the overwhelm (for example, the "runway"/boxes) or regulating your emotions. Just start there. It's not too late. ❤️
@thanks shannonhoffman7873 For genuine concern...😊

@DoctorJacque, do you have recommendations for parents with ADHD parenting kids with ADHD?
I’m literally crying while watching this.. so glad I found this video and channel.
Do you have any account that is in Spanish so my mom knows about ADHD and how it affects me
Thank you for this. Such great tools!
my child is everything you've described, EXCEPT the behaviors only happen at home. i don't know if it's adhd, over stimulation, over tired from the day? control?
Thank you for your videos! My daughter is in second grade (7yrs old) and her ability to focus and hyperness has been an issue since she started school. I’ve tried different techniques to redirect her etc and I she started taking gummies that are all natural made from different mushrooms and ashwaganda to see if they would work but they don’t. Do you have any recommendations on natural supplements that work?
Very helpful. I definitely need these tips.
I don’t agree with taking away accommodations. Reinforcement of no one being there for them!
What age is this for? Thanks
Superb Thanks Dr You have helped so much 😊
Great video! I don’t understand these comments about how quickly you spoke. I thought your pacing was perfect.
Haha, thank you! And thank you for your support! Glad it worked well for you. I do try to talk a bit slower in newer videos. I think everyone has their own preferences. What's important to me is that the info makes sense to as many people as possible.
