Update 2024??

Well done. I'm trying to start some white spruce. My cow pastures are being lined with christmas trees. About thirty years ago I planted about 2 dozen white spruce in my north most pasture. My children and I harvested maybe ten trees from that little stand. Great memories. The remaining dozen are pushing 30- 40 feet now. Hope to be blessed with harvesting the new patch in five or six years. I've got about 250 white, black, and norway spruce planted this year and bought some blue seed and cleaned some cones for white. Hopefully with your good advise I can get some more going.

How long and what size pots should they be put in as they grow? I started 500 fir and spruce trees from seeds and they are now one year old in a one gallon pot. I plan on upsizing the pots but don’t know how big to go. I plan on growing them in lots for about 5 years before trying to sell the, as wind break trees. any advice would be helpful.

I want the willow best for a really tall, thick privacy fence that I prune to be narrow each year. It's difficult to get a straight answer on which to buy. I keep getting answers like Salix Viminalis, Hybrid Willow, Sandbar Willow... I just want a thick, tall privacy hedge! What do I need to ask for at the nursery?

Hello! Are the seeds covered in a wet napkin that need to be kept in the fridge or just in a sunny place? And is there another way to just plant the seeds in the pot to place them in the sun? I will wait your answer... Thank you!

The original bulb under the new bulb is still swollen! It should be all used up. Just a thin scale.

Never dig them up while the leaves are still green! Let them dry back to the ground.

What's the point of the weed cloth? I just jam the little guys in the ground and they seem to take pretty easily. Sometimes I'll use a mallet and really hammer them in.

Spencer, I'm from California, but when we lived in W Sussex, there was a giant redwood on the property we rented. I brought a cone from it home and just found it. What do the seeds look like close up? You have an extraordinary amount of knowledge. Thanks for sharing it!
