My First Bikefit For 12 Years! What Changed?
Просмотров 3,8 тыс.14 дней назад
It's the off season and I've mainly been doing off season things. The build up to 2025 has started though and last week I headed down to my local bike store, Infinity Cycles, in Durham for a bike fit using the Retul System. This was the first bike fit I've had in 12 years. Watch though until the end to find out what changed and what I thought of the bike fit process. Links to the camera and equ...
Massive CRASH At The Alberto Contador Gran Fondo

With my 2024 season drawing to a close, in mid September I headed to Oliva in Spain to ride the Alberto Contador Gran Fondo. 144km on some of the best cycling roads in the world, under the warm Spanish sun sounded like a great way to end the season.. At least that was the plan.. A crash 80km into the ride, knocked me for six and left me struggling to even finish the event. Link to Strava file o...

    Just saw this video. I also rode this race but I was way behind you, around the 600th. When I passed through the descent you fall down (after the exit of Millena if I am not wrong) a lot of people where on the floor as well because it was starting to rain in my case. That road is a bit slippery and despite when you fall it seems to be dry, it is a bit dangerous. I am a local rider and it happens often when it doesnt rain in a while and some days/weeks before it rains. Hope you are OK, congrats for your video!

    Hey Dave, pro stretching tip here from an ex Muay Thai instructor: when you do your stretch, go as far as you can, then slowly take a deep breath while maintaining position then exhale as you stretch further. It will give you a massive boost to your stretch and your body naturally relaxes as you exhale. You can usually do this a couple of times before you max out.

    Hi Dave love the videos keep up the good work, I’m entered the 312 next year 2025 and I was wondering your tips on hydration and nutrition during this long ride as this will be my longest to date, how often do you take in nutrition and hydration and how much and I know you you used your tour operators feeding stations but did you use the organisers as well minus the first one. Thank David

    • @daveridesagain
      @daveridesagain 22 дня назад

      Hey mate, thanks for the message. The 312 is a brilliant event. I didn’t use any of the event feeds, but there are plenty- enough to get you round. All well stocked with plenty of choice. Fuelling wise , I’m not great. I was aiming for around 80 grams of carbs per hour… I managed it for the first 6 hours then it went to pot… I started to get stomach cramps, which is fairly normal if your gut isn’t used to it. I did train with 80 grams per hour, but didn’t do many rides beyond 6-7 hours… I took in my carbs mainly through beta fuel, chews, gels and drink mix.. Trying to consistently drip feed it in every 15-20 minutes… I think I did 5 x 750 bottles in the 10 hours… Again less than ideal, but I got lazy with it in the last 3rd of the event. It wasn’t hot either , so that helped… If it’s hot, I’d aim for at least bottle per hour, with added electrolytes/ salts… I’m not an expert , but I got around OK… High carb is definitely the way to go, but make sure you train your system before, otherwise you’ll end up with gut issues… Thanks for watching

      Hey thanks for watching. It was a great event, spoilt only a little by the organisers not starting the riders by age category order as they do in other UCI events… This meant you had no idea where the other riders you were competing against were. I didn’t stop at any of the feed stations, it wasn’t particularly hot, so 2 bottles got me around. There were a few feed stations though, well spaced out and well stocked, so you’ll have no worries getting supplies if you need them. 👍

    Para un próximo aprendizaje no frenar en medio de las curvas. Da igual pronunciadas o levemente. Y menos humedas o mojadas en descenso. Vas dándole mayor presión al freno delantero que al trasero. Por todo lo anterior ha patinado la rueda delantera. Los trazados de las líneas blancas en curvas son arriesgados. Siempre hay que tomar las curvas evitando hacer cruces paralelos. Siempre lo más en "X" que se pueda. Que facil es ver los errores de la gente desde el sillón de casa 😅. Saludos cordiales.

    Glad you recovered quickly 👍 I'm not an expert, but from what I can see @12:09, you first went through a little bump, then you turned your handle bar very slightly (1 to 5 degrees) to your left. That's when you started losing your front wheel, and then you hit the breaks which accelerated your fall. When I go through a curb, what helps me is to position my upper body vertically (close to 90 degrees to the ground) while my bike is inclined. Try to move your upper body away from the curb and see if that helps.

  • @10shed
    @10shed 25 дней назад

    It's a bit of a statement: 'I've watched the footage back hundreds of times and I still can't .....'. I watched it twice to be certain and you were leaning over as in turning and also on the brakes. It's a classic loss of front wheel grip while turning and touching the front brake. Basic error. If you'd have feathered touched the rear only, I presume you were wanting to reduce the speed slightly, the back would have done it. Think about it; the entire race field negotiated it without incident. You didn't. What were you doing that they didn't? It's not rocket science to prevent it. Just don't touch the front brake in damp conditions when turning at speed. Do it earlier with straight line braking. The earlier footage shows a glisteningly wet front tyre. You should have been more aware to the conditions and more confident to lay off braking. Luckily you were walking wounded but the advice of ' best thing is to get up' could have seen your injuries drastically worsened. Think about that. Ambulance staff don't turn up and drag you to your feet! You needed at least self assessment of coordination and limb movement before you attempted to stand. Inspect your helmet to see if you hit your head even if you think you didn't. Wearing gloves would have saved some skin on those cut fingers. Learn from it. Learn to take care of yourself as that guy seems more observant of your bike than your injuries, finding your bottle rather than finding out where it hurts, can you grip, push, pull, finger tip touch your nose, are co-ordinated and well enough to carry on. Phil Gilbert went over a wall and rode with a broken knee cap before having to abandon. Everyone makes mistakes but he's paid to ride and there's the incentive. You need to be more cautious following an accident.
