Oldtime Fiddle FAQ: Craig Judelman
Просмотров 4,6 тыс.3 года назад
Here Craig gives answers to some of the most common questions oldtime fiddlers have. Of course, in oldtime there are no "right" answers, but Craig's combination of experience and technical knowledge is sure a great place to start. What strings should I use? How to learn variations? How can I learn bowings from recordings? What are the most essential bowings for oldtime fiddlers? And much more...

I love it I want learn that song on the fiddle! 🤩
Luv this one !!!!
You could raise the d to A I think
You are a great fiddle player. I have listened to emmet Lundy for many years. You have exactly captured his playing style and sound. Fantastic, man
Thank you for the great video, much appreciated ❤
I love watching all of Steve’s videos. I love his comment, “it’s only obscure because you don’t know it.”
Have you ever heard of an old timer named Alva Green. I think you would really enjoy his fiddle playing……check out his tune called Hunky Dori….man his fiddling in that song sounds like razor steal! Some of his other songs seem to have some kind of Native American influence in them very unusual….think his fiddle’s setup has a flattened bridge like a lot of old timers to make drowning a little easier….Cheers!
I just discovered Cameron and he is my new hero!
Ha! I thought I heard Henry Barnes in that fiddle! Nice playing you both
Lovely playing!
Isn't this tune the boys of blue hill hornpipe, never heard it called twin sisters
George could you please teach us to play Hawks and Eagles fiddle tune?!
I hope to meet her in person at the 2024 Clifftop jam!
Is that "polst" or "pulsed" ?
Do you keep the bow hair as loose as possible to make double stops easier? Thanks in advance.
Awesome! This is the only chiquapin hunting for me
Excellent
Anyone wondering about tuning - this tune is usually played in standard with the g string run down to an e. He's playing in the equivalent tuning here but tuned down so there's a C on the bass... So C Bb F c
A good one.
Thanks, Craig.
why do americans wear hats indoors
LOVE Rachel!
Dakota you are a greatteacher really clear and thorough thanks so much from the west of Ireland 👍😎
Great lesson, thank you so much¬
Tricia's seconding add depth to the tune
This is great!
Wow, wow, wow! What a beautiful interview and set of tunes. I'm just floored right now.
Billy, I'm glad you got such good use out of Grandma's violin.
❤❤❤ Thank ya for your Awesome playing ✌️❤️
love the tune, great lesson, already started learning it
I am so glad that I found you on RUclips. I really appreciate your fiddle instruction .
Nice clear lesson good job
Great tune nice feel and good instruction well done
Emmett Lundy was my great-grandfather on my father's side. ❤
I am elated to hear you say that you favor auditory learning, and not visual learning. I couldn't agree more, and I think people misuse youtube, more often than not. I tell my students to not watch, but rather, listen.
Very nice. I can actual get a clear idea of the melody.
Except it is Bb tune! Not G.
dux on the mill pond very rithmic he plays 1st two parts through a fewtime then geedy comes in with his clawhammer and the 3rd part is sounďed lundy was out of this world there are other players i listen to but Lundy comes out tops
This is a lot of notes but they seem to flow together. Took a while to figure out how to play it cross-tuned, but it's a lot easier to play than I thought it would be.
Once I learn this I want to make it longer a loop so to speak because I never want this song to end ! Maybe loop it to 5\7 minutes then record myself and put some piano as well mixed in?great song! Great lesson! Thx
Beautiful song speaks to me
We need more fiddlers like Jimmy in this world!
💯💥💥💥
Good interview. Smooth and mellow tune. Nicely done!
Nice job on that, Gents!
So underrated
Regarding the question on keeping tunes fresh, as someone who plays the same songs in a pop duo with backing tracks (don't judge me 😜) where the selection to play is limited, it can get tedious to play "Brown Eyed Girl" AGAIN. Keep this in mind: "Play it like it's the last time you'll ever play it; play it like it's the first time they've ever heard it." Great channel!
Avoid this song? That's silly, it's such a good melody.
Great way of teaching. Very helpful, keeping the tune simple to focus on rythmic accents and bowing. In a few minutes i went from sounding Irish to sounding oldtime. Opened up a whole new world to explore
He'll of a job, bro. I also like to like to come up with my own versions of popular fiddle tunes by creating kind of a hybrid of a few different versions. I really like what you've with this song. Excellent job. Keep pickin brother.
Thanks for the video!
