Alpine A110S - Possibly the most accomplished car I have ever driven....
I always knew the Alpine A110 was going to be a good car, but perhaps I hadn't realised exactly how good it was going to be. But an invitation to come to Le Mans to see the reveal of the new Alpine A290 hot hatch was too good an opportunity to waste by letting the train take the strain. So I borrowed the keys to an A110S and headed to La Sarthe. To say I was surprised by how the car drove would be putting it mildly.....

Why the 24hrs of Le Mans is the world's greatest race!!!
Просмотров 1022 дня назад
For one weekend every year, a quiet corner of the La Sarthe region of France becomes a Mecca for many motorsport fans. And the names associated with the 24 heures du Mans are the very Blue Chip of the automotive world - Aston Martin, Bentley, Jaguar, Ferrari, Porsche and Alpine. All have endured the gruelling test of man and machine to be victorious and walk to the top step of the podium. But w...
DS7 - Mon Dieu, this piece of French luxury is refreshing!

Tired of the same old, same old from Germany's Big Three clogging up the school gates? Try a little French savoire faire with the DS7 225 plug-in hybrid instead. But can this newish French brand really do premium to compete with BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi? Perhaps more than you think...albeit its not perfect! Dacia Jogger Hybrid - Is this the best car in the REAL world?
Просмотров 24 тыс.2 месяца назад
Finding a car that ticks literally all of the "family car" boxes can be hard - until now. The Dacia Jogger is one of those cars that simply gets it's sleeves rolled up and cracks on with the job. And now that you can have it with a hybrid drivetrain, perhaps now more than ever, it makes even more financial sense. Or does it? To find out, I took one on a proper family holiday to Cornwall to see ...

Jeep Wrangler - The forgotten icon.

The word "icon" is an often over-used label, especially when it comes to the automotive landscape. First of all congratulations for the channel. Beautiful and full of content. I am writing to you from Italy. What can I say about the A110, you really said it all. Exceptional car exactly for the characteristics you described. And even comparing it to supercars with more horsepower was a stroke of genius and not as crazy as it might seem. By quoting Murray you hit the nail on the head. If he says so, who bought it and made it the benchmark to develop his new $2.6 million T.50 supercar, who are we? I have been the owner of an orange sanguine A110 S since 2021 but last November I purchased the A110 R which I am waiting for (we are almost there I think). I wanted to take this step for an infinite series of reasons. I got it in a unique variant, with Pikes Peak livery. I wanted the R because it is not just a harmless letter of the alphabet, but the goal of technological and aerodynamic extremes. Because it exudes the essence of car racing and track competitions. It represents the pinnacle of performance and sporting aggression. Because at the basis of the R, there is a studied aerodynamics, based on a perfect balance: on the one hand, the increase in aerodynamic efficiency, on the other, the minimization of air resistance. Regards and see you soon👈

I had a Skoda Superb MK3 L&K and changed for a 508 and the build quality and materials on the 508 are far superior to the Skoda. My Superb was plagued with constant buzzes and creaks and my 508 has none. The door armrests and centre armrest on my 508 are genuine Nappa leather too rather than fake leather.

In France, a new 2024 718 Cayman/Boxster has a E 60'000.00 malus on top of the price ... the A110 s 'only' E 2726.00 ... also definitely prefer double wish bone suspension in the A110 even if front boot space is compromised. But the A110 would be a sunny day/weekend car for me, so would prefer a 2 litre Caterham and keep my 1.5 3 cylinder race red Fiesta ST for every day fun, come rain, shine or snow 😊 Appreciated your review ! Thanks and greetings from Thoiry 01 / Geneva

I think regarding the ride / handling, the French have always been good at it and when you combine that with modern damper technology and low weight you get the Alpine. As there are no other new sports cars that are as light as this then it really accentuates a well executed chassis set up for the road.

Thanks. I Like your review. As a DS3 Crossback 155 Opera owner, of which I love in terms of comfort, performance and tech, but hate in terms of space, or rather the lack of, and looking to 'upgrade' to a DS7, I appreciate your comments. As far as what I may consider as an alternative, Skoda Kodiaq, Pug 3008/5008, Porsche Macan, Audi SQ5/Q5, and the Toyota and Lexus options, I'm torn. I would like if you would included insurance groups and running costs, eg Skoda Kodiaq up to group 23 insurance, DS7 26 - 42, Macan.. 45!

@@bryanmcmorran782I respectfully disagree; 99% of dct cars are driven in automatic and from experiencing dual clutch gearboxes in cars like the Renault sport, different VW group DSGs, pdks(cayenne, 911, panamera) and a DKG in an M3, I can, wholeheartedly, say that any automatic, of any kind, will be detrimental to the driving experience; the interaction is so low on a "to do scale", feeling like less than 10% of what a manual would offer. The problem is, ppl will make excuses all the time because they want the easy way; automatics of every type, in sports cars, are just excuses for ppl who can't or don't want to drive..ppl who brought their sports cars just for show and are not and will never be actually interested in driving, actual driving and the experience that actual driving brings into one's life. edit./p.s. if you are a driver, you are mashing your own gears; if you are a pretender, sure, go with the automatic route.

I find it hard to sit through a long review, even on a car brand that I admire alot like this one, but i think you have absolutely nailed it. You have explained to the people what this car is all about and broken it down probably as good as anyone could of in my opinon. We all, including myself see performance style cars, like this one, as exactly how you explain this car is not intented for. So! By creating a very informative review on how this car truly shines and what its real inent is, to me, makes this one of the best car reviews ive ever watched. Give yourself a pat on the back for explaining to us how this absolute gem of a car, really shines :).

Wow, what a charming comment. Thank you so much, I’m truly humbled. I’m glad you enjoyed the review. I do longer reviews as I try to aim them at actual car buyers who might be looking to buy the car, so they may want to know a lot of detail. As an ex-car salesman, I have been asked many things, so I try to cover it off in a consumer style of review. They’re not everyone’s cup of tea, but for those who do like them, I’m glad it’s helpful. Thank you again for taking the time to send such a lovely comment on the channel, and of course, for watching. Bryan.

I own other cars (often more expensive) but I can safely say that this one is the car getting the most sympathy from the public and by far. It has a few niggles but overall it is a great package. Have owned a A 110GT bought new 18 months ago . Been driving for 50 years and best driving car I have owned and have had many. Epic on B-roads but solid and comfortable on motorways. Great tribe of likeminded owners who understand how special the Alpine is, the low weight , supple ride and sufficient power to use on UK roads with no loss of fun being an Auto.box .Not forgetting the excellent mpg. If you get one , prepare to spend many hours explaining what it is and how it’s not a Sunbeam or BMW ! A definite keeper. Clearly you get it .

I sold my Porsche 993 and 968 to buy a second hand Premiere Edition and an Alfa Giulia Estrema. Without doubt the best car I have ever owned. I fell in love with the original A110 when I first saw one and lusted after one from that day. When the new A110 was released and I saw the reviews my mind was made up. I’ll be keeping this car until I can no longer drive. Great review but you omitted to mention the MPG of around 40 which is phenomenal for a sports car. Also there is a downside you didn’t mention, the car is so light that it does not like strong crosswinds at motorway speeds, the lightness means it wants to wander!

Ive had my A110S for circa two and half months, it was dealer stock so came with the CUP2s option, uprated focal stereo and the Alcantara dash / steering wheel etc. It was in the traditional Alpine Blue colour. The bucket seats are suprisingly comfortable, the cornering ability (certainly in the dry) is like glue, you can do serious miles and feel relaxed then enjoy a challenging B road and I do like the noise of the little 4 pot. Looks are incredibly subjective, I like it and it does draw some serious attention which can be fun at times. Weaknesses, door plastics are on the cheap side, dealers are a real 'hit and miss' with some on point and others just terrible which grates when paying Porsche prices, cooling fans love to hum away for a good while after engine switch off (not a real issue) and the black surrounds of the wing mirrors really are cheap and nasty looking. Overall I love it! You asked what drew me to it, I had a new G series M2 on deposit and ready to collect when I saw an A110 advert and as the nearest dealer was only 40 mins away I went for a test drive (a few hours unaccompanied) and the M2 order was cancelled!

I did a test drive in the Duster Hybrid having a much better feel and space but recognize your "complaint" about the engine just wanting to go into way too high RPM and according noise (even if you do not push down the throttle the whole way down!) which is annoying indeed and probably for me the reason why I am going to skip this one even though the smoothness in the city so to speak. Tomorrow another test drive with the TCe 130 manual gear box and see what that will bring... (probably too much RPM too for some gaining in power but that is only when I ask for it...)

Here in Germany, a S with any serious spec is 75k+€ and used prices are much higher than on the island as well. My only criticism after test driving a GT were that the comfort seats were not for me, lack of cupholder and the cheap feeling light and audio controls.

Had my A110S since new last Sept, tweaked a little with an engine and transmission remap, Life110 air filter Life110 AST coilovers, Life110 geometry, titanium tie-rod ends, Life110 gearshift paddles, titanium wheel bolts, EVO Corse Cup wheels. Lotus owners "get" it, Porsche owners are just baffled that I did not choose a Porsche. Not regretted buying it and will be a very long term keeper, a brilliant car for the Welsh roads where I do a lot of my driving. The changes I have made are very much to personal taste, although the Life110 geo, gearshift paddles and air filter are fantastic changes that all A110 owners should invest in Love the Alpine heritage and the fact its not the default Lotus / Porsche choice. Two little errors - the rear screen lifts up after undoing some knurled screws in the boot area and the engine cover then lifts out after undoing the quick release clips. The GT also has the same 300hp engine as the S and R, only the base A110 has the 252hp unit

Do current F1 cars become less of a drivers because of the lack of a clutch pedal? Would a manual option be good - possibly but having lived with this for 9 months I can honestly say that it being DCT has not diminished the enjoyment factor at all, I mainly drive in manual mode so have the interaction / control I want. Fortunately I have two other "real drivers cars" that do have clutch pedals

I am mid 50, and Swabian. Saving money is innate like with the Scots. 😎 After testdriving a 110S last spring, I switched to a GT. As German B and C roads are bumpy and getting worse. Steering in air is a challenge... Yes. Bought it. Compared e.g. to 11 years Elise S1 you do not mess around with high sills, rattling, etc. It is a mature car. So far no quality issues. Useful and fun? Yes! My wife and I travelled for a 5 days South-Tirol- holiday with hiking boots, backpack, etc. There is enough space for luggage. Ok - maybe put the jackets behind the seat. Enjoy travelling and alpine passes and leave the seat with a big smile. The ratio of low fuel consumption (weight) to fun is amazing. Best car I did own so far. I have to think about a severe investment: an Alpine cap like yours.... BR FROM A SWABIAN😎

Claw design on the rear LED lights is beautiful. The car is non-expensive to buy and maintain, the next generation mentioned here (also starting in 2018.) costs almost twice as much and has some issues since it's a new model (maybe they fixed it in this facelift shown here).
