Cant help thinking that all the complicated tech in the MG hybrid drivetrain could prove very expensive a few years down the line. Great comprehensive review .
I have owned two hybride self charging. One being a Honda Jazz Crosstar and my current car a Dacia Jogger 7 seater Hybrid,, self charging . Both have been faultless. Driven right both give me about 69 to 75 MPH . You want to look down the road look at the Toyota Prius. The reliability is no different to ice cars. I see them as taxis everywhere and most are at least 5 years old or older
@@JoePeddie The same here. Drove a Toyota Yaris for 5 years and now a Honda Jazz EX for just over 3 years. Faultless, not even a bulb changed. @robboles5233: A few years down the line the MG3 still has many years of full warranty. 😉
Totally biased and unbiased review apart from the fact that comparing a self-charging hybrid with a manual gasoline is like comparing apples with bananas
Why? Both are small superminis that are in the same marketplace at similar prices. One does it one way (a small capacity internal combustion engine with a manual gearbox), the other offers something different (higher output engine assisted with an electric motor). If you were a consumer looking to buy a new supermini at around £20k these two would be a consideration. So why not compare them?
@@houseofcars1973 When I'm looking for a small supermini, I already have an idea of what I would like. Do I prefer automatic or manual transmission? Electric, hybrid, petrol or diesel? If I prefere a hybrid with automatic transmission, I will definitely not compare a Honda Jazz e-HEV, Toyota Yaris Hybrid or an MG3 Hybrid+ with a manual Skoda Fabia (the banana😉). But I compare those three with each other and possibly with a Renault Clio Hybrid. So four apples🍏. That banana🍌 doesn't fit in as far as I'm concerned. Although they will look quite good together in a fruit basket.😊

A very good review! I have a 2024 Fabia SE Comfort ( The revised version ) I picked it up brand new in July for £17000. Including delivery, matts and mudflaps fitted! Great car
Re the Fiesta finishing Ford has some home grown problems with it's Ecoboost engine. Oil and rubber don't mix so Ford put a rubber cambelt belt in the oil and then wondered why it failed.
Oil and rubber CAN mix but you need a special type of synthetic rubber combined with the right type of fabric construction. Catering for comprehensive oil resistance makes the belt more expensive all round.
I am a long time fan of Skoda and would dismiss an MG. But not this time, this time I'd struggle to pick the one I'd drive home in. The MG and the Skoda both make a reasonable "Fiesta" 🤷🏼♂️
Personally I would have preferred to see a twin / triple test with the new Suzuki Swift. For me it's the Fabia but then I'm a fan of Skoda's in general except, for their increasing price levels.
The latest incarnation of the Suzuki Swift appears to be much improved - and now built in Japan - although for me personally, it's always looked a bit "chintzy" and light on build quality..
Love the Fabia. VW solidity, Skoda practicality. In terms of the Fiesta, I think Ford (and others) have decided to concentrate on manufacturing large, expensive EV SUVs with higher profit margins attached to them. I've owned two Fiestas over the years, and nothing drove better, except maybe the Focus.
That rear light stuck onto the back window seems rather obtrusive! Very big! I wonder if it blocks the rear view & i wonder if it would become rather annoying?
When you get the opportunity, can you review the new MG ZS hybrid. I owned an ZS in the past and it was an ok car, but since then i gone hybrid. Owning a jazz crosstar and a Jogger Hybrid . My current car is the Jogger and its a good car, but i was looking at the new Duster hybrid and the ZS hybrid has put a spanner in the works. Cheaper, more kit , better interior, doesn't look like a budget car, where Dacia you can clearly see where the cuts have been made to keep costs down. I also might hold out for the Dacia Bigster, gives me time to save the pennies.

Fabia exist with DSG7 (automatic..) @@houseofcars1973 oh I see… you are the only reviewer that’s mentioned it. I wonder if all hybrid cars are like this.. for example, the Corolla has a 1.3kwh battery.. that might be the nominal battery size but the useable battery might be much smaller
Manufacturers usually quite gross capacity rather than useable to make the batteries sound bigger than they actually are. It’s something I’ve learned over my years with EVs is to try and quite useable capacity as much as I can as that is the more relevant figure. I’d suggest the Corolla has a smaller useable capacity.
I stopped watching at 40.0 minutes mark. Atrocious and totally biased review. Cannot help but feel you already have preconceived bias before you even started the review. To be fair the Skoda probably target older more matured buyers while mg mainly for younger buyers, thus explain the bias.
Ok I managed to finish the video. Car reviews should be more objective, almost like every point be given to each category and sum it up at the end instead of too subjective to the extent of involving too much personal feeling. Honestly the whole review sounds like a Skoda salesman doing car comparison. MG sells well in places it's available worldwide while hardly anybody buys a Skoda except in countries where it is from, i.e. Europe.(And it's not only down to price, Skoda is hardly a premium brand)
No one is saying that the MG isn’t a good car. It is definitely a very good car. But the quality of the Škoda is better as is the way it drives. Yes, the MG is cheaper to buy and has a longer warranty, but its residuals are less than the Fabia. And as I said, you can see where MG have corners to keep that price down. The Fabia also has a nicer interior, has more tech, feels more premium and therefore worth the extra money. And time has shown Škoda’s reliability to be one of the best too. So I’m sorry if the car you like came in second place, but please don’t accuse me of biase just because I feel one car is better than the other. That is my job, to evaluate cars on an overall basis and put out a verdict. If you don’t agree, that’s fine. But don’t start with the insults just because you disagree.
The Fabia will be way ahead here, at it is far more developed, refined and better built than the MG. The current Fabia is now right up there among the best small hatchbacks you can buy.... It even gave it's "in house" Polo cousin a close run for it's money in a recent Auto Express comparison..... The Fabia will also retain a higher residual value than the MG after a few years.... To my eyes, the huge air scoop things on either side of the front grille on the MG, just look unspeakably ugly. The MG will sell though, as the value for money is hard to ignore. That said, the cheapest new Fabia is just a grand or so more..... I've owned 5 Skoda's over the last 20+ years, so the Fabia would be my choice here....
I bought a brand new Polo! It had so many rattles inside from the doors, center console and dash! Also the clutch bite point was bad and my partner wouldn't drive it! Got rid of it and now so happy with the Fabia!
425Nm >> wrong wrong ^^ 250Nm is what delivers the gearbox to the front wheels. And what the h.. is that weird choice ? Skoda Fabia ? Why not ? ... Why ?? ... oh that's because it's got 4 wheels ?? oh no wait ... it's a blue car .. okay got it ! haha
We need to see MG against Dacia. Dacia is the benchmark of newish value cars in Europe. Skoda has been up market for a good 10 years now. Hence why the list price of this skoda is the same as what I paid for an Audi A3 same size same spec. The 1.0 engine is a great engine as long as you look after the belts and oils.
I did try to include the Sandero, however Dacia’s press fleet couldn’t meet the dates that I had the other two and vice versa. But yes, a Dacia would have been ideal as a comparison.

You’re entitled to your opinion and if that’s how you buy cars, fair enough, but for the rest of us, it’s more than just “what the fastest”.
If that's your take, the 1.5 tsi 4cyl engine in the Fabia has a claimed 0-60 of 7.70. It's buyers choice, as with Everthing. We're not all going to like the same things. The MG to me just looks cheap, unrefined, and dull to drive- an also ran. Reminiscent of Kia 20 years ago.
