How I built this Ukulele Bass out of one piece of wood.
In this video I am building a ukulele bass from scratch, out of one piece of beech (and a little bit of plywood), using only hand tools (well, I didn't have a hand drill so an electric one counts as a hand tool) . This build is a part of the #usewhatyouvegot challenge. Sound test at the end of the video!

I wouldn't use aluminum, it is very soft, even softer than a hardwood that is usually used for making a neck. It can compress, deform, and take the shape of the wood no matter how much you adjust the screw.
Very nice, but not from one piece of wood. Because of the top laminate.
What about the other pick-up?
Rough but fascinating
Nice concept, but please, use oil when you drill metal.

I do apologise, but I don’t have any plans for this particular bass, it was something put together from scraps, and that dictated all the dimensions and shape.

Thanks man! Unfortunately I don’t have any measurements, it was built from scraps and that kind of dictated the dimensions and shape and everything. But we’re in the same boat haha, I also don’t know much about them, but if you start, I’m sure you’ll get something done ;)

its cool to see you working on what looks to be your apartment/neighborhood park table. I noticed the chain around the tables leg so i can only assume its not your backyard. Good inspiration to those who don't have a workshop or a readily accessible space to feel confident and comfortable to woodwork.
Thanks! Yes, I used to live in a student accommodation so this was what we had there. Honestly, those tables made amazing workbenches, there's a certain magic in working out in the sun at a slow pace with hand tools. It just makes you pay attention to the work so much more. Now I don't live there anymore, so I don't even have the luxury of having that anymore, I don't even have a backyard and I need to be careful of the noise that I make in the apartment. So woodworking is, unfortunately, pretty much impossible for me at the moment. But maybe this limitation will give birth to something new ;)

I dunno man there's a lot more than just one piece of wood here. There's like...metal? Plastic? Electronics? Some kind of rubber? Misleading title.
Well no duh it’s gonna have rubber plastic and electronics but yeah this is definitely not 1 piece of wood.

Considering that the strings were fresh, didn't really have much time to settle in properly, and I have never had any experience playing fretless intruments, without any markers on the fingerboard, I think I've done quite a bloody good job. Just saying.

I'm sorry, I don't really remember the dimensions, I just played it by ear with the dimensions of the wood that I had. For scale length I used the maximum allowed by the strings, written on the pack.

How cool. I love the integrated thumb rest and style of the whole build. I think I'me gonna give building a ubass a go. I've never had one before so it'll be interesting for the experience alone. Cheers and keep up the good work. For flooding epoxy, I really like using casting resin because it is made to be this and flow into voids. It is also made to be relatively thick so it cures slowly and doesn't have much heat. I only used 5min epoxy on a 3d print once and it got hot enough to warp my part resulting in another 18 hour print. So I stick to 15-30 min epoxy and casting resin for void filling.
Thanks for the tip, I wasn't used to working with epoxy at all and didn't have any other one, but I definitely learned a lesson

I saw your "How I built this Ukulele Bass out of one piece of wood." video first and thought 'oh no, talk about the bridge! this is so cool. I want to know more!' Then I checked your channel, found this video, and subscribed. AWESOME! I recently bought a bass ukelele and had the problem of E and A string being too flat when fretted and D and G to sharp. I thought of modifying the bridge and tilt it, so E and A strings are longer and S and G shorter. And here you are making a bridge that does the very thing :D
