Narrowboat Moonshine
Великобритания
Добавлен 17 ноя 2020
We have lived full time on a boat for seven years, now we are where we belong, on a narrowboat.
We don't have a house, bolt hole, flat or any other form of fixed dwelling. In our 50's but its never too late to Work Less & Live More!
We are now working on our new narrowboat, so follow us as we spec, purchase and fit out our new home on the water from a sailaway. There will be tears, trials and tribulations for sure!
Why boat life? We are cutting our living costs down so we don't have to work so much, searching for that holy grail known as "Work Less, Live More"
If you see or hear Boat Living Van Travellers, that was our previous van/boat combined channel. We now have the two separate ones: We are still known as that on facebook.

Installing a shower was always way down the list, as we have facilities in the marina. But it's time to crack on and get this job done, still surprising how much we still have to do. www.buymeacoffee.com/infoW

Lithium is not a finite resource it can and is got from sea water hence why they are used in electric cars.
Love watching 👍 great to have time with family in such lovely setting. I can’t wait to start my journey
Hey guys where are you?
where about are you based .need someone to sort out my solar panels set up .
Hi Phil, we are on the Gloucester/Sharpness canal.
Can I ask your opinion on the build quality of your boat from Aintree? was it a good experience? Anything to look out for ?
Hi, generally positive. There were some issues though but all were sorted. We had tiller issues and needed a new tiller arm, they left a plug out of the diesel tank which flooded engine bay with diesel ( that was a rough day) had some paint problems on one of the gunwals. Delivery dates will be off by some margin. There will be issues with any new boat, no matter on fitment level. Its how they react to them, and they did fairly promptly. But the diesel and the tiller arm really shouldnt have happened.
@@narrowboatmoonshine thanks for getting back to me. I appreciate your feedback
Its such a shame to watch you revamp the layout of the whole boat almost when you could have just revamped the dinette. Ive just done it and its a days work.
It didnt have that much impact to be honest. all is good now.
@@narrowboatmoonshine really? I would have been apoplectic 😂😂 it does look nice though. I learnt a lot from watching them especially the electrics and plumbing side. It’s appreciated
Amazing video!! I'm asking for a little help. Does anyone knows an electrician that can help to replace batteries on narrow boats? Liverpool/ Chester area please? Thank you very much
Sorry, we don’t know, maybe ask in a local chandlery’s
Had a idea for the curtain problem .Have magnetic strips on the bottom.
We’ve sorted them now thank you. A good idea though, I’ve seen a few people use those.
Happy Birthday Martin. A well earned beer or ten. The boat is looking amazing,
Thank you,
yah... brierley hill here. loving the channel
That was where I did some of my electrical training at BSC Cookley. We are so glad you like the channel, do you have a boat?
No I lost my wife in December . She had cancer. It’s something I’m seriously considering . However I don’t have skill set to do what you are doing. Or the experience. So for me . I’d have buy ready to go. As anything else these days. The outlay and ongoing costs aren’t much difference from a house. However the lifestyle away from it all. Would be great for my mental health. I could do the woodwork no problem but the rest is over my head. I love watching your channel. Can’t wait to see the finish.
Dry nice. Glad your got your brother’s boat there and you and Fran had a good time. Enjoy the Piratefest. Lookin* forward to seeing more videos. 😊🤗 Kathy
Thanks Kathy appreciate it. Was a great trip and yes, a dry one.
The Shropshire Union canals were owned by the London and North Western Railway from 1846 onwards. The LNWR became Britains most profitable company during the golden years of the Railways. Unlike several other Railway Companies - such as the Great Western - which ran down the canals they bought, the LNWR continued to invest in the Shropshire Union. They used the canals as feeders for rail freight and to compete with other railway companies. That investment included the installation of the LNWR telegraph systems in the 1860's and 1870's, which explains the marooned telegraph pole in the double arched bridge. After Railway grouping in the 1920's, the LNWR became part of the LMS, which had no real interest in the canal. That lack of interest led to the closure of the Newport Branch and the Montgomery canal.
I loved reading that, thank you.
@@narrowboatmoonshine you're welcome! I'm enjoying your voyage.
Loved the journey you had, hope you have had great time in Cornwall!!! Xx😊
That’s great Sandy, and yes we sure did.x
Finally found time to sit down and watch, at least the first part, of you and Fran moving your brother’s new boat. Looked like a great cruise aside from the fickle weather. You two look very happy out there cruising!! Enjoy. Off to watch Part 2 😊🤗 Kathy
Glad you liked it Kathy, what can I say about British weather?? We certainly enjoyed the trip down. Hope you like part 2
Congrats enjoy a well earned curry🎉
Thank you so much 😊
You both did a great job. It was lovely to see you on the cut and look forward to seeing moonshine on the narrows 👍
Cheers Del, hopefully, it’s the finance part that’s the stumbling block.
Nice to see you both! Lovely scenery on your travels, have not travelled that stretch of water with any other vlogs I watch, so it was different area, very nice you did well in such a short time. See you in travel vlog next week. Have great week 😊
It was lovely eh? We saw so much wildlife too. Those canals need some investment in places, CRT should concentrate on the waterways and not the stuff on the fringes. Yes, and you have a great week too. X
What fun to be on the Shroppie again (virtually). I miss Del and the Boys and hope they are well.
It’s a lovely stretch, yeah Del and the boys were good, managed a couple of beers with them.
The telegraph pole was in clouded in the bridge when they were removed from the canal banks. There’s still one on the Coventry canal in its original position. Was an easy route for the GPO. 😂😂👍🖐️
Hi Stephen, thanks for that snippet. When I looked it up the word "placed" was used so it sounded like it was never used in that position. Its a stunning bridge.
Can’t remember the marina name it’s no new it was sealed off and re dug out only just reopened 👍
Ah right, looks brand new. I'll try locate its name.
never mind the theme parks, you two need to do the narrows
Later maybe Bob.
You can't beat the narrows life Martin and fran
When we finished globe trotting
Looks a lovely boat. Is it new?
Two years old. One owner
Nice to see you putting your back into it! 😆 🤣
You know it Vicky. I’m a machine!!
Great job martyn 😊😎👍
Thank you Mark. 😊
Great vid folks 😊😎👍
Thanks 👍
YEAH!!!!! Great work Marty. Fascinating to watch you work it all out. And….most importantly, Fran is a happy lady!! Love the expression on her face when taking her hot shower. Your boat is going to be the most stylish on the cut! 😊🤗 Kathy
Thanks Kathy, Glad that jobs done, If she's happy then generally I am too lol. Don't know about the last comment but we will do our best. Thanks for commenting Kathy, always appreciate you taking the time.
Lovely job well done. (Not ever done the job my self), it's a real credit to you..
Thanks Russel, so many things you have to think about. We hope our videos give an indication to what's required to fit out an empty narrowboat.
Hi both great video, very informative and you always make it interesting. It was great to see Fran have her shower bless her. Have great week 😊
Fran's well happy! I'm glad that jobs done! Cheers Sandy, have a good week.
Yay! This was the one I was waiting for. Really enjoyed plumbing and electrical although I'll never touch either myself (I did change out my own toilet upstairs but that's as far as I go so to speak). Some things are best left to the professionals.🤐
It was a total pain in the *****, But its done now. We have an interior door solution that we are on with now. Got a push on at the moment. Thanks for commenting.
I HATE fitting shower cubicles , you've done a top job there well done .
Cheers David, not just me then!
Great job Mark.Nice to see you both again. The boat is coming around nicely..Congrats.
Cheers Mark, We on the internals doors now, update coming soon.
Great to see you two guys back❤
Thanks Dean. Video coming soon.
Looking great guys! You seem to have survived Orlando in one piece, although lighter in the wallet area no doubt. I had to close my eyes when you drilled the hole in Moonshine🙄
Florida left us skint.com!! Good job we bought all the shower stuff beforehand. Its always a win when you drill a hole in a boat and no water comes in!
Martin, have the shower boards coming down onto the top of the shower tray - stop them about 4mm above the tray and then seal between the two with silicon. Good to have you both back and looking well.
Hi Sam, I’ve got a proper seal kit after some research online. Have you used those?
@@narrowboatmoonshine No Martin - I haven't but I am guessing the principal is the same. You have already spotted the potential for water issues if you run the wetwall down behind the shower tray so I think that you are on the right track. Board down to the shower and then sealed. The idea of the 3-4mm gap I mentioned was just to make sure that the seal wasn't broken over time as the shower tray in "pulled down" when people are in it. Good Luck - its all looking very neat.
Thanks Sam, that’s clear. Appreciate the advice.
Xx
Thank you
Welcome back!!!! You both look so relaxed and happy, glad your vacation in Florida was a good one. Nice video, loved Fran scooching into the camera frame. 😂. You are almost finished with the shower YAY!!🎉 Good work. Can’t wait to see it finished. Looking forward to your next video. 😊🤗 Kathy
Hi Kathy, we are shattered to be honest, need a holiday to get over it lol. Been a busy two months. But it’s good to be back and hearing from friends of the channel such as yourself. Hope you’re keeping well. Still quite a lot to do on the shower, jobs on boats always take longer, but hopefully I’ll be finished by end of this weekend. X
@@narrowboatmoonshine I am glad you had a good time, and I get the need a vacation to recoup from the vacation. 🤣 It is great to have you both back. 😊🤗 Kathy
You should cut board to top of shower. It will give a better seal. Great job.
Cheers Stephen, yes I researched that today and got some proper seal strip that sits between board and shower tray. That’s a job for the coming weekend. Thanks for advice, appreciate it
Nice to see you, to see you Nice. 👍🏼😎
Thanks Nick, appreciate that.
Wow what a surprise to see you back on moonshine, was looking through me list and lo and behold there you were, great to see you back. Was that shout out for me? If it was thank you it was a super surprise if not oh well!!! That looks awesome that shower . Have great week xx😊
Of course it was you you, you always take the time to comment and chat with us, didn't want to add your last name. Yes, we have made a plan to get her completely finished. Every thing takes so much time and money, as everything has increased in price. Its good to be back, we never like to just make fill in videos, only when we have something worthwhile. Have a great week Sandy x
@@narrowboatmoonshine Thank you I love every thing you do, it’s been a hard year so far and you both take me away from the problems, thank you see you next week x
Great to see you back on the boat again!!
Thanks Astrid👍More to come.
We have been fitting out our yacht for 30 years 😂
I can see how that can happen, there are so many things to do.
Hi Martin. Hope you don’t mind me contacting you but I am sure you are the best guy to ask. Our boat was built next to yours at Aintree. I know you installed satellite TV and as we are struggling with our tv wi fi wanted your input on the one you fitted. Phone and iPad wi fi is fine but keep losing signal on the JVC tv. Is it worth installing sat tv? Thanks for your help.
Hi Les, we fitted the Maxview free Sat. Its been a dream to be honest.
Hi, I really enjoy your videos, could you let me know where you sourced your window frame liners please, as I am just about to replace my windows and these would finish them off nicely
Sorry for delay on this, only just saw the comment. www.wesleywindows.co.uk/window-porthole-liners.html
