Battle Blocks: Sengoku Wargame Overview
Very nice. The Brigade Models figures/vehicles are lovely. I’ve also mixed in some Vanguard Miniatures too. I’ve even built vaguely similar forces in 2mm & 3mm scales (in retrospect I should have asked myself WHY?). I’ll keep an eye out for your progress 😉
Where do you get your blocks?
Wonderful work. What do use for the bases of your units?
Are these resources you mention on the OPR page? I cannot find the factions you mention.
I like the brick idea. Columbia Games sells small 20mm/25mm bricks for $6 dollars.
Your game is incredibly pleasant and elegant. It captures attention and brings joy, making me want to return for more gameplay. However, during the game, some questions arose that I would like to clarify. 1)how exactly should the unit turn? around the center or turn around the corner of the front? If around the corner, then how to turn at angles greater than 90 degrees? 2) When a unit is in the firing range of enemy unit s, should it move directly towards the center of the enemy base or directly towards the closest part of the enemy base? If a unit is in the firing range of several units, should it move directly towards any of this units or only to the closest one? 3) strange retreat wording. For close combat everything works well, but if the unit retreats from shooting, then according to the wording it teleports to the shooting unit in base contact and then retreats. However, in the video guide it is clear that from shooting the squad simply retreats back 1 Thank you for your wonderful product and for the joy it brings to players!
Nice and effective armies I was, however, surprised that at no point did you think of showing the mesh before you did anything to it so we would know what to look for
Can you make another one of these? Or more crossfire? :)
I drew out my playfields on cardstock paper. Same scenario, green for hay, etc. nice video
Use thin sheets of cardboard for bridges
such a great idea! You've inspired me!
We played this recently. My opponent was a non-wargamer and he picked it up quickly and liked it. We may put some 'in retreat' markers in the mix to give us the a visual que in the heat of battle. Nice, tight portable and challenging...I like it.
@@BlackDouglas1000 That's great to hear, I'm glad you are enjoying it!
Hi. I really like what have you made and i made my own game base of your game system. I can say that i added 3 additional units like Cavalry that can shock enemy by moving together with enemy unit 1" back and enemy for that round can only melee with 2 dice; Archers that can shoot up to 5" using 2 dice however they use 1 dice for melee and die instant if hit twice (on disorder) and artillery that does not have shooting range, uses one die to shoot and is automatically destroyed if hit once. I use small wood blocks acquired from store. My game story is not based on Asian history, but more on Ancient Roman. Respect again for very realistic rule system and simplicity of the game.
@@laurentiustefan5167 Thanks for the comment, I'm really glad the game has inspired you to explore some additional units and ideas!
Hey this is probably my favorite video on RUclips, thank you for answering all my questions. Could you possibly make another one of these videos? I'm not partial to the history lesson at the start, but it is nice. I just love your narrative style of the battle report.
This idea has really piqued my interest, it's not even a budget issue I just enjoy making things so I may make a unit of these to see how they compare to some baccus minis from a few feet away
What battle mat do you use?
@@rogueskypilot4116 I got this mat from Geek Villain in the UK
This is how all battlereports should be done
YES! Thank you for uploading a Crossfire vid <3
I bought a piece of green fabric the size of a table cloth from my local fabric store (Joanne's fabrics in the USA) and did a light dusting of 2 old shades of tan/brown over the top making a couple splotches, it adds a lot and I still use it as my mat today
What kind of bases do you use? Are they just wood? Also saw an old instruction sheet on making wargame units out of hair roller pieces
I make bases from acetate sheet (OHP blanks). These are transparent, so the underlying 'ground' shows through. Of course they are extremely cheap!
Are they sturdy?
@@TheAxebeard It depends on the thickness of the acetate and the glue you use. My main problem is that a lot of acetate is quite thin, 100 micron, typically for printing. Some acetate sold in craft shops is thicker and I seek out that. Also superglue is great for this if you are not allergic.
@@TheAxebeard I just checked. I'm using 250 micron thickness.
Can I also recommend "Scotia Micromodels" from Scotia-Grendel. They are similar good value.
I have done a lot in 6mm, but because I am into set-piece battles, battalion/regiment/brigade scale, it gets too expensive. I only just realised that there is a great range of 3mm now available which I never knew about. So I am now migrating to 3mm.
I've tried 2mm irregular miniatures before for the American Civil War, it's a good scale for the bigger battles!
I'm a great believer that wargaming should not be so expensive. Unless you are particularly into collecting and painting miniatures as a hobby in itself, then it is the game that matters. 3mm miniatures are one way to reduce costs, but I have designed a few games using just office stationery materials. I made an ancients game from cut-out A4 coloured mountboard and printed mailing labels, and a transgalactic wargame using pins and paper.
Good video! Definitely gonna give this a try! Love the minis!
Fantastic!
Making me nervous how close you cut to your finger tips. But I get it they're super tiny. :) TY 4 the Vid.
I like to buy packs of little plastic figures for kids. Bout 25cents a peice which is expensive when you figure they could just be cardboard nibs but i think the cheap sculpting adds something
This video is great, im using this to play for the frist time!! Thank you for this
Such a great little rule set, have you tried the fair winds and foul tides expansion?
Dude... Whoa.
Do you have any close up pictures of your models? I'm going to order these same ones and paint them, I'd love to know what paints you used. Thanks!
I'll take some tonight and post them for you to see, I don't remember the exact colours but I'll show you an example.
Post is up showing photos and with an explanation of how I painted them!
Hey, how did you base your models? I like the graphics
Thanks for the comment! I based them on 2mm thick MDF bases that I bought online, for the colour I painted a basic sea blue/green and then with a lighter shade added some texture, finally I used white paint for the wake, and then painted the whole base with Mod Podge which gives the glossy textured look
@@TheTabletopGamer Thank you!
this is a pretty cool idea... I started building my own little world, with the aim of having the conflicts of that world settled on the tabletop... I'm pretty sure there is a way to make the whole jenga block thing work with Pike and Shot style warfare... though I either have to find the fitting symbols, or make em up myself to do so
You can play hoi4
Hi. Just purchased and downloaded both versions of the rules ! Great game ! Very well written. I like it ! Any chance to contact the autor for some questions ?? Happy gaming !!
Thank you so much for your support! Yes I'm always happy to answer any questions you have
Does anyone know of a US-based store that carries this?
where can i download/ purchase your rulebook?
Thanks for showing interest! You can purchase the book here: www.wargamevault.com/product/448086/Battle-Blocks-Sengoku-Second-Edition
@@TheTabletopGamer thanks!!
Interesting idea!
H&R are best for infantry, artillery and aircraft. GHQ are best for AFV's. As for trucks and soft skinned vehicles both have their advantages and disadvantages. I must admit normally using 3cm square bases, this looks like 2 cm square bases which is a good solution if your playing area is small and a sweet spot for crossfire.
Love this! Easiest solo ww2 game?
I don't know about easiest, but Crossfire is quite a simple ruleset once you've played your first game - I certainly find it makes playing solo fast and fun.
Ty, this video changed my ability to almost unlimited maps.....buildings?
Is there a ww2 version?
I dig this! Ty
This is great. Tiger sell a Jenga style game with different coloured blocks for £12. I just picked myself up a box in order to play this game.
New subscriber here. Awesome video. I use the same with my Lego Dice games that I've created instead of spending lots on the same base plate colors.hahaha awesome ideas. hello from Japan 🗾🇯🇵
It is so bizarre I am just discovering your channel while its content is 100% aligned with my gaming interests. Go figure... In any case, I am enjoying your reviews, super useful. Thank you!
Very late to the video, but thank you for the quick and clear description! One question, were did you get your miniature ships?
Thanks for the comment! The ships are all from Tumbling Dice Miniatures in the UK.
