Guadalupe Ukulele Strings - In-Depth (Completely Unique Uke Strings)
Guadalupe Ukulele Strings have been in production for 34 years but very few people seem to know how special they are! I hadn't tried a set for over 10 years before they recently landed at Southern Ukulele Store but was blown away by how unique they felt and how articulate 'silk' strings with a nylon wrap could be. A unique experience...

    Hello Alex This is my first comment to you. I have been following you over the last three months both on your own channel and the sus-channel and you have given me tons of info, lots of great ukulele tunes to enjoy and loads to think about. Thanks for all of your wonderful vids. Now my respose to this video. I think it is very interesting what you say about the rise of the tenor. I live in the south of Germany where the ukulele revolution is just about happening and if you go to the normal music stores, then you will find mainly concerts and not tenors. It is different with the internet stores, though. So i think Germany is about 5 years behind Britain. Funny isn't it.

    • @UkesWithAlex
      @UkesWithAlex 2 дня назад

      Oh for sure! But the main land US is exactly the same... general music shops stock may be a skewed reflection on what they actually sell. Germany is a funny one anyway because ortega is much more prominent than here in the UK. Thanks for watching, I appreciate you commenting.

    do Ukuleles have spirits? I think they do. i was shopping in a thrift store as i was going thru the shelf looking for good used garden equipment, there was a beat up messed up uke. i just couldn't ignore it, don't know why. walked away then back multiple times; purchased, repaired and now practice on it. Nylgut but tune down one whole step as the bridge is ready to go. Use animal glue and several layers of shellac to hold it in place I don't understand why, but i'm glad i rescued this uke. it will be our first Christmas together. yeah, its weird, but i wonder if musical instruments can have a Klabautermann. you seem to be well connected with instrumentation and thei limitations and maybe folks with insights as well.

    On recommendation from a friend, I put the BT-LGs on a ukulele that had lost meaning in why I purchased it in the first place. Those strings brought that instrument to life and it is a favorite now! My other favorites for the best tonal woods I own are Pepe Romero. Great rundown on all the “other” Worth strings. The selection is mind-boggling for sure! Thank you!

    Im relatively new to the Ukulele, although I've had a couple for around 10 years Ive only recently started to really get into it, choosing to play them over my acoustic and electric guitars, Ive only just discovered the joys of a low G string and coming from guitar it makes a lot more sense, to me anyway. So after looking into it, I went with a wound G as it is the same width as the unwound high G, so there is no need to start widening the nut slot to accommodate a wider string which if not done will affect the string height and possibly pull it of tune when fretting the lower strings, or have I got that wrong?

    Great advice! Being based in Sydney, I’ve noticed there aren’t many ukulele specialist stores around. Your comments really resonated with my last visit to Manny’s in Alexandria. If anyone knows of a good ukulele stockist you can visit in Sydney, I’d love to hear about it. I also appreciate what you said about putting GCEA strings on a baritone. I discovered Perry’s Octave Ukulele String Set (no affiliation) with tuning: G2 C3 E3 A3. It completely transformed my baritone! Even though I started as a guitar player and wasn’t fazed by using guitar chords, these strings gave me those rich, warm tones while allowing me to play with traditional ukulele chord shapes. Would love to hear your comments on that. I’ll send a link to how the sound on my not very expensive Kmise baritone.

    Hi Alex! Thank you for all the work you do in sharing your wealth of knowledge!! Reallly appreciate it so so much. Question if i may: what low tension string would you recommend for a really old tenor? Low G if possible. I recently changed out my decade old ko'olau mahana strings to Worth browns and i realised the bridge is starting to pull off slightly at the edges, possibly from the higher tension. Aside, i also welcome any advice on the bridge issue - should i get it fixed preemptively or can i wait until the peeling gets abit worse. Thanks a whole lot and have a great one!

    • @UkesWithAlex
      @UkesWithAlex Месяц назад

      I had a De Vekey Tenor for a time and I found the Aquila 16U wound nylgut string was the lightest and lowest tension string for that. Its a safe bet!

  • @jimsatola3397
    @jimsatola3397 Месяц назад

    I’ll add one more, but of likely disagreement, on the point of #10, at around 22:10. The “factory strings” on the vast majority of medium-end (and lower-end) instruments are Aquila Nylgut strings. As one who has owned probably 50 ukuleles, and have tried lots of different strings, in my experience, essentially without exception, ANY fluorocarbon string set sounds measurably better than EVERY Aquila string set (Nylgut, SuperNylgut, Reds, Lava, Sugar, . . . whatever, they’re all kind of crappy). If the “factory set” is Aquila, PLAN on changing the set - you’ll be glad you did.

  • @jimsatola3397
    @jimsatola3397 Месяц назад

    OK, as one who has owned close to 50 high-end ukuleles (mostly Hawaiian Ks, aNueNue, Pono Master Series, custom Ohanas, and the like), I’ll say the name, inferred at around 11:50, about “just because it has a 120-year history,” . . . Let’s just say that, unless you’re looking at a super high-end koa 5K model, . . . If you are set on buying a Martin, think about going on Reverb and buying a vintage-era instrument (1960s or earlier). Similar to its guitar line, the classic “top-end” instruments are still great, but Martin has since padded its catalogue with LOTS of lower-end stuff that just rides on the headstock name (often in a-bit-puffy, glittery lettering for the junkier stuff).

    Where do Maple and Eucalyptus fit in? I'm considering the Flight A10 solid maple tenor and the Ohana 450 Eucalyptus concert based heavily on their looks, though I do love the sound of the A10 Maple. Another I am considering is the Kala Solid Curly Mango Tenor. The octave low GCEA strings sound awesome! I don’t have a baritone (yet!) but I did splurge on a low G string set for one of my tenor ukes . Can’t wait to try them!
