Discovering wildlife and macro photo in Palawan.
Wildlife and macro photography in Narra, Palawan Island, with Canon, Sony and Fujifilm.
Today I took my Sony A6700 attached to my Sony FE 90mm macro, my Canon R7 with my RF100-500, and my Fujifilm X-T5 coupled with my Laowa 65mm macro, and I went to Narra, in Palawan, still in The Philippines.
Many things there. Crap-eating macaque, Palawan water monitor, wasps, grasshoppers, treehopper, ladybugs, dragonflies, and more....

Thank you so much for sharing this - I'll be buying an A6700 for macro video, and have been struggling to find examples such as this showing the camera's macro video capacities, especially when it comes to video AF - so this is super helpful, and also very convincing. Amazing shots (due to videographer skills of course, but happy to see the camera is a good tool for this) My application is slightly different as it will be underwater macro video, especially fast moving small crustaceans, planktonic and larval forms in open water, which is why video AF is really important (though I usually shoot standard macro in MF with peaking). This setup clearly works perfectly for your purposes, but I was wondering if you had tested any other APS-C lenses for macro-video applications? The one thing I'm a little worried about is lens AF speed in video mode, and wondering if native Sony lenses would be faster than others or if it's not necessarily the case. Merci encore! ben
Thank you for your comment Ben! No, I am using a manual lens Laowa 65mm with Fuji for macro. I choose this Sony set up for video and I like it, but I am fairly new to it. I was close to buy the Fuji lens equivalent 80mm macro, but I really needed to try the strong Sony AF. Its not perfect, It was probably design for bees an butterflies actually, but I am happy with it. Another idea that I had was going with the OM1 and the expensive 90mm macro. Maybe you should look at this one as well. I have another video with a few footage of wasps where I just let the Sony AF do its job, coming in a couple of days. Its on a tripod, an we can see the AF more clearly at work. Cheers! ✌😀
Bravo pour ces belles photos

It might be easier to use a battery powered grinder for cutting. I think that the Americans have a aluminium one time pan for popping popcorn.
@@tarjei99 thanks for the tips! 😄👍
I enjoyed the video. It was very helpful but would love your opinion. I bought myself a nice retirement gift and am just getting started with photography. I bought Nikon z7ii with the z24-70 2.8 lens and love it. Plus I was given a Cannon R100 with the stock lens. Originally, I was planning to sell it but have been thinking of purchasing the Cannon 100-400 lens that you showcased. Nikon does not have a comparable zoom lens at this price. What is your advice? Two different camara brands in my pack or save the money and get the more expensive Nikkor?
Thank you very much fscg! I have 3 cameras: Fuji, Canon, Sony. Each with a bunch of lenses. So I would just buy the RF 100-400. That said it's possible that you don't like that dark aperture of the RF100-400, because you are used to an F2.8. I don't know... Also you will have to get used to a new camera menu and button display. And, I never tried a R100, it is THE entry RF camera, but the images should be good. (But less buttons and wheels, no flippy screen, small buffer, slower burst mode, less EVF resolution, small battery, etc...) So as long as you feel good using that camera, then why not. I think it's good to let the door open to another brand and see what they offer. But other people will tell you the opposite. Choose 1 camera, know how to use it as much as you can. I hope it helps. Cheers! 😄✌️
@Chrispitchwildlife Thank you so much! That was so very helpful!
@@fscg2732 my pleasure! 🙂
Thanks, this is one of my doubts about the Raynox as to what focal length is best for it. Are focal lengths apsc or full frame? I have a Full frame A7Riii and was wondering whether to get a laowa 58mm or 90mm full frame and use it with this Raynox
Thank you Anule! My 3 bodies are cropped sensors. I made a video where I test 3 magnifiers on 5 or 6 lenses. I think it's best between 50mm and 100mm in regard to working distances and DOF. The longer you go, the more magnification you get of course. But the results depends also on the lens itself. Sorry I never used a full frame ever. Cheers! 😄👍 ruclips.net/video/_V2nywZlaVw/видео.htmlsi=EdotHPTdC8a4mpWk

Hi Sir, do you know if its possible to add a raynox snap-on lens?,
YES POSSIBLE hehe
I'll give you one tip that will help you, in the case you don't want to see the whole video. You click on the 3 dots to see the full video description. Sometimes you have chapters there. You click on the right chapter. In your case [Raynox, ext. tube] Cheers!😄👍
Haha, I just went to check if you had any new videos. I guess I'll comment again on this one. 😆 Beautiful place and thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks again Ryan! Yeah, not much videos right now. I need to fix myself somewhere new first. Cheers! 😄
Are you being chased by Aswang in this video 🤣 Wow this was so helpful - I sold some Olympus Lens to reduce that kit and some unused lenses to fund a new camera body - but then for months now I have been on the fence of what to get - I am basically down to this vs the a7cii - mainly for travel, street, and better video. I mainly want to do really nice slow mo macro video but also use it for travel sometimes when I want to change it up and take instead of the Olympus - this might be it! Amazing that it can autofocus shooting at 120FPS! Impossible on even the newest OM System bodies!
@@BMadPhoto I must say, usually I buy a shiny thing and then I regret. But this combo is my favourite for macro video and close up, followed by my Canon R7 with the RF100-400 for close up with an excellent 120fps at 1080p. For macro photos my Fuji is still the best for me with the 40MP. I have no doubt that this A6700 is good for street. It is good at everything. It will overheat though if you insist on a subject. I guess probably 3 to 6 min at 4k120fps before a warning. I never tried it though. (Put your warning on high by the way. That's what RUclipsrs say...) Remember that the Canon R7 mark 2 or the R6 mark 3 may come soon, and a new Sony is rumored to arrive in November. It could be a very expensive A1 mark 2 though. 😁 I hope you make the right choice! 😄✌️
Great examples. Thanks for sharing how good this 100-400mm lens is. I am looking at the Tamron version for my Nikon and now I know the pros and cons of this focal range. I also have a 1.4 extender however this can extend the reach but may loose a bit of detail. Thanks again.
Thank you Adrian, I am glad you like my little video. I wish I had the energy and time to do more of that kind of video. 😁 Nikon has some nice lenses with good IS like the 150-600 F5-6.3 I hope I can try that one day. Good luck. Make the right choice! 😄✌️
Do you think it can be use it in a airshow or motorsport events, i m loking to buy a canon r8 and a Rf24-105 f4 and saw the 100-400 at a "good" price and i was thinking if its a good purches for that kind of exemples ? Nice review btw
Thank you Xicoo! I guess, as long as there is enough light, you should be good. This lens is for the people who want something small and light weight. And this is a big advantage regarding the arms fatigue. 😁 Keep in mind that with the R8 you lose 1.6x of reach, but you are gathering a bit more light than with my R7. If you want sharper and more reach you have the RF100-500, but it's expensive. (2500$ to 2800$). This one I a F6.3 at 473mm. I think canon is working on a RF200-500 could be F4 or F5.6. (not sure) Good luck! 🍀
@@Chrispitchwildlife Most of the events happen during daylight, sometimes in the middle of the forest but nothing that a little bit of iso does not compensate i guess. I saw the 100-500 but the price is to high (3500€ in Portugal) for my budget, i can buy the R8, 24-105 f4 and the 100-400 and theres still bugdet to buy somenthing els I m amueter i dont need that type of equipemnt for now, i think for now Ty so much for you help =)
