    Hey, Farrah! 😊I have Ring Shout on my shelf, but haven't read it, yet. What season of the year does it take place? Despite the body horror and the animal abuse, I loved The Troop. It was a 5-star read for me. Great movie choices! I have only been to NYC once with my youngest son Andrew, and we had the best time even though it was too short. I hope to visit again one day when I can be there longer. Fun tag! 🤗

      @@katsnoveladventures1863 Hi Kat! Hmm I can’t remember the time of year the story in Ring Shout takes place in but it’s in the Georgia, sometime in the 1920s. There's no reason to apologize for words, especially pronouns (we are after all a society that wishes to assign no meaning to words anyways - well, just the words that we don't like, like 'God', there's not much meaning to that word for many people, or the word 'soul' espeicially, but you get the point). I understand him though, not being able to open up as a child. I've always had a chip on my shoulder, always had a pessimistic attitude - and people, in their "positive" and "happy" attitudes, don't care much for those with a different disposition. A disposition with something a bit more at stake: peel away that positivity and I see those other people for what they actually are. Anyways, I enjoyed the vlog. I hope you have a wonderful week! And maybe I should take my pessimism and just ditch booktube, lol. Too many of those white smiles that want to sell me something or promote their "books". Haha.

    • @bookstalgic
      @bookstalgic День назад

      Thank you, hope you have a good week as well! Having to hold back parts of yourself for fear of violence or being labeled as different, is definitely hard. My husband doesn't generally like people that much either and we clash a lot when it comes to "thinking positively". He says a lot of what he feels out loud and although the lack of filter annoys me sometimes, it's refreshing sometimes because I think there are many of us that can be overly positive despite what we feel on the inside. What you see is what you get with him, lol. My positivity has grown with age. I definitely didn't have the same mindset I did in my teens or 20s, let along my 30s. Somehow, in my 40s, it was like a realization struck that we aren't guaranteed a single day and how we feel throughout our day is the only thing we can control. Maybe future you will feel less pessimistic and maybe not; I guess you'll have to wait to find out! But yes, there is definitely a scale of authenticity when it comes to Booktubers and people in general, so we do our best to be aware of the ones we resonate with and filter out all the rest.

    Super thrilled to have your vlogs back. There’s so much to see and hear in your vlogs viz: your trail footage and your reading experience all mixed with nature. ‘Killing Jesus’ is an insane title to push to a publisher but I think by your reaction of it that its title is justified by content. I’ve recently seen a podcast that sheds new light on Pilates character and I found it to be very entertaining although it isn’t the main focus of the video. If you’d like I’ll reply with the video and time stamp as I think it could add some value to your reading in the way of the crucifixion. Anyway glad to have your channel back in action!

      Thanks Adam! I really appreciate your comments as always! I would love to hear about the podcast you're talking about. That period in history is so fascinating to me and I've been really into learning about it lately. Yeah, that title is a doozy and he has many in the "Killing.." series like "Killing Lincoln, Killing Reagan, Killing England" etc. It was definitely an interesting book. The reviews were a bit polarizing on Goodreads and I can see how some were upset that it wasn't Biblical enough and some were upset that it wasn't "historical" enough. Can't please everyone as we all know. :)

      @@bookstalgic The podcast episode is presented by cosmicskeptic (aka) Alex O’Connor and Elaine Pagles a historian of both the standard biblical canon and the relatively recent discovery of the scriptures from Nag Hammadi, Egypt (ca. 1945). Anyway they discuss in this episode the evolution of Satan in the bible from Job to Zachariah to Revelations and at about 28:58 they discuss the discrepancy between the Bible’s recording of the death order of Jesus and what is more likely to have occurred according to contemporary evidence. The discrepancy has more to do with Pilate and the Roman military than anything else. And unfortunately that is how people tend to think when it comes to sacred texts. Either you’re going too easy on the interpretation or you’re being blasphemous. It’s tough ground to tread in order to be a biblical scholar. I certainly have a lot of respect to the people that are attempting to break new ground or to provide enlightened interpretations. It’s a tough crowd to please.

    what a mix of books! Bill O'Reilly is a curious person lol. i thought he had to be a terrible person because even Fox let him go but he's multifaceted. seeing "killing the witches" at B&N is what made me look into him because i was like "wouldn't he have been the leader of witchhunts?"😅 I still haven't looked too deeply into him but ive put him in a "who among us is perfect" catagory lol. you put big magic on my radar even if you're not feeling it so i downloaded it because i have way too many audible credits haha. i like to listen to books like that when i start getting anxiety. even if its the same stuff ive heard before presented in a slightly different way the little wave of inspirational speaking is calming to me

      Haha, funny you say that about Bill O'Reilly. I didn't really know much about him while I was reading the book, beside remembering that he was a political commentator. Then I looked him up because I thought I remembered some controversy about him come up in recent years and saw all of those sexual harassment cases he had! Yuck! I didn't realize he has another book about witches and yeah, him leading the witchhunts sounds about right haha. But you're right, he's definitely multi-faceted. I returned Big Magic, but a few people have commented that they really loved it so I think I'm going to give it another try. I like listening to books like that too when I'm anxious or overwhelmed. Welcome back Farrah! How’s the water in Cape Cod? We went to Hampton Beach beginning of August and the water is as cold as I remember it on a trip to Maine years back! 😆 I might have to go even more South… 😅 As always, love the nature vlogs! ❤ Have a great weekend!

      Hi Julie and thank you! We used to go to Hampton Beach all the time when we were younger as my aunt used to live in Somersworth, NH. We actually just got back from Maine last week and surprisingly the ocean was the warmest I've ever felt! I saw so many people from Quebec there and I always love hearing the French language when I walk by them. :) Last summer, the ocean was so cold, it was actually painful to be in the water, lol. I remember the first time I went in the ocean in Florida and I couldn't believe how much warmer it was. South is probably the answer, haha. I hope you're having a great weekend as well. :)

    Hi! I’ve enjoyed this vlog. I do have Killing Jesus A History. I actually bought it at my library sale a few years ago. I was always freighted to read it. Thank you for this review. I also think I will read All Boys Aren’t Blue. Looking forward to your next vlog.

      Hi Floss! I'm so glad you liked the vlog! I was hesitant to read Killing Jesus: A History as well when I first saw it at the library. It's an interesting choice for a title, that's for sure, but I think it was pretty well done. I liked hearing about what else was going on in Rome at the time. Some of those rulers were really sketchy! I think you would enjoy All Boys Aren't Blue. I liked the positive tone despite some of the difficult moments he had. Thanks so much for watching! :)

    not gonna lie, I almost raced for the unsub button, (grumble grumble, yankees, grumble) but then I remembered how sweet and genuine you are and I grudgingly didn't pull that trigger.....YET Anyway, congrats to the team, winning in Cape Cod is no joke!! Love those silent but for HER shots of nature, especially the river murmuring I think it's ok to have a tick phobia I read the Pullman trilogy, it was not for me, not sure why, just couldn't get me, and after the movie I hated Lyra. Fun fact, her ferret thing, was voiced by the kid who grew up to become the Good Doctor on tv. Welcome back, my favorite shot was the kindle in front of the crackling fire

      Haha, I figured that hat would make a few people mad! :D Thank you! It was the only tournament they won all summer, so it felt extra special that they won there and it made the drive worth it, lol. I can see how the His Dark Materials books aren't for everyone. When I was done reading it, I read a few of the negative comments on Goodreads and there were definitely some valid point made as to whey some gave it a low rating. I have never seen the movie and I probably won't, but I've heard that the show streaming on HBO Max was really good so I might try that one.
