    Hi everyone!
    I am still working on reading more of my own books and trying hard not to purchase any more books until the challenge is over in Nov 2024.
    Just wanted to share my thoughts as I've made it to the halfway point and I've learned a few things about myself as a reader (and book buyer) along the way!
    I am very happy to be doing this challenge and finally making a true effort to focus on my own books, but I definitely miss a few things like more impulse reading from the library and perusing through thrift stores for bookish treasures.
    I would love to know if any of you are still doing the RWYO challenge and how it's going for you! :)
    Challenges:
    Read What You Own hosted by @CriminOllyBlog and others
    Read What You Own - My Plan: • Read What You Own Chal...
    Read What You Own - 3 Month Check In: • Reading What You Own R...
    I'm Farrah from bookstalgic and I have rediscovered my love of reading again in my 40s. :)
    I try to find any time I can to squeeze in my love of reading into my busy life of work and family. :). I love talking lots of walks in nature to try to appreciate all that I can each day.
    Favorite genres: it's mixed bag of Classics, Sci-Fi, Fiction, Fantasy, Mystery/Thriller, Classic Horror (not too scary lol), Nature/Environment, Non-fiction, Health, History and Speculative/Paranormal Romance
    On my channel, you'll find cozy/chill reading vlogs that highlight some of the natural beauty I see outside on my daily walks around our farm.
    I try to post 2 vlogs per month as well as a reading wrap up at the end of each month (I sometimes get behind, though!) :)
    I am working on doing more individual books reviews and tags as well as participating in some reading events as well.
    I hope you enjoy my channel and thank you so much for stopping by!

    Hey Farrah! Awesome video! Congrats on the Clarissa progress! Love the variety of books. Garlic and the Vampire is definitely not what I was expecting with that title, but it does sound kinda fun anyway! I’ll have to see if it’s on Libby with my library. Take care. Happy reading 😊

    I read The Bluest Eye this week because of your video. I had already read Beloved earlier this year and picked up a thrifted copy of The Bluest Eye immediately. Toni Morrison is becoming one of my favorite authors. I’m still stunned and a bit speechless.

      I felt the same after reading The Bluest Eye as well and so glad you enjoyed it. Heartbreaking and tragic, but such a well written story. I can’t wait to read more from her.

    Farrah! I have not seen any of your videos for a few weeks - not sure why. Anyway, it's nice to see you again. "Bluest Eye" would be one of my favorite reads of 2024 so far, as well. I read "Beloved" in June - it is a difficult read, but worth it. Take care!

      Thank you, Reney! I remember you saying you really enjoyed The Bluest Eye too :). I’m glad you liked Beloved too. I have been so behind in watching Booktube, (and even worse now that the Olympics are on!), but I’ll catch up with your videos soon. Great to hear from you!!

    What a lovely video Farrah. Nice to hear you mention Clarissa. Of all Toni Morrison's fabulous books I come back to "Jazz" the most. It is exquisitely written and utterly transporting immersing us in the wonders and struggles of the Harlem Renaissance. The first Edition of The Great Gatsby has such a fascinating and often reproduced cover I thought nothing could beat it but your edition of Fitzgerald is just gorgeous and I think takes the prize for stylish. Nicely done and congratulations on your channel's much deserve milestone.

      Thank you so much! I have about 300 pages of Clarissa left and really enjoying it. Glad you enjoyed Jazz and thank you for your thoughts on that one! I remember reading The Great Gatsby in high school long ago, so I am definitely due for a reread of that one soon. Thank you again for your lovely comment! :)

    Hi Farrah! Great video! I also love Toni Morrison. I think BELOVED might be one of my favorite novels of all time. T. Kingfisher was my new discovery this year, recommended to me by MJ, and I have absolutely loved everything I've read by her. I also really love Maya Angelou, and I had a similar reaction to Caged Bird. I'm sorry that Maeve Binchy was a disappointment. I have a couple of her books that I was hoping to read this summer before my trip to Ireland in September. So great to see you!

      Thanks Pat! I remember you saying Toni Morrison was one of your favorite authors and I’m glad I have more of her books to look for to! I think A Week in Winter by Maeve Binchy might have been a fluke because others have said it’s not her best book. I would definitely give her another try in the future. I hope you enjoy the ones you get to before your trip! ☘️

    Hello, Farrah 🤘🏻😃
    There's a Toni Morrison novel called Song of Solomon. I have no idea what it's about, but it was LeVar Burton's last Fable club pick. I would've read it, but the club was well underway when I joined.

    Enjoyed the video! I'm at that point again where literature seems so childish to me, haha. Of course I'll keep reading and writing - but I dunno, most of these books I find (even classics) don't get to the heart of real experience. It's just psychedelics and cushions to soften our fall. Forgive me for always being a debby-downer, haha, I really can't help it.

    • @bookstalgic
      @bookstalgic  2 месяца назад +1

      You be you, it’s all good although I do wonder why you bother watching my channel if you don’t care much for most of the books I read! 😆 I guess it’s all about the type of experience we each want to have. I have enough stress with reading about people being sick or dying in the hospital every day through my job, so I need the literature psyhadelics and cushion to break up the day 😂. Have you read anything you really liked lately?

    • @scoutdarpy4465
      @scoutdarpy4465 2 месяца назад

      @@bookstalgic Even though I'm not a big fan of the books I still enjoy watching you and other people talk about them, lol. For me booktube is more about the people I get to talk to rather than the actual books. It's the community aspect that I really like.
      And no, no books that I really enjoyed. That's either because I've just been reading too much for too long, or I'm just not the sort to really experience that much pleasure in things (I kinda feel it's both). Lol.
