    Not a case of form over function, but rather form and function. Great build and the sexiest dust collector I've ever seen. It compliments and adds yet another visual "wow" to the garage and I smiled at the whirling caster demo at the end. You almost danced with her and that could have been the perfect clip to silence your music critics . LEDs on disco mode with "Stayin' Alive" on the audio track.

      Mine stays in the garage for the most part. I have moved it outside for my deck rebuild. Everything is holding up well, but there are parts that I agree are not up to the standard I would like. Particularly the use of plastic in the locking portion of the flip mechanism. Also, I have noticed that if it isn't on a level surface that you shouldn't try to flip it.

    It's only worth it if you use it for a shop stand. If you're looking for a mobile stand, look elsewhere. I bought one six months ago. I'll be returning and going back to the Dewalt stand. here's a list of what I don't like 1. Doesn't fit through doorways without turning it to its side. 2. Plastic latches that hold the table are already broken. 3. Needs two people to load and unload from the truck. 4. Needs to be on a level surface to work properly. Overall it's an overpriced piece of shit

    • @ABrazHouse
      @ABrazHouse 4 месяца назад

      It has been good for me, but I use it more for a flip stand and don't take it out of my shop/garage. Though I have been using it on a deck project in my backyard. I agree with #2 - the latches are the biggest weakness...I have been real careful with mine. Good info to know on the other.

    The lift I built at my previous house used a single cable from the harbor freight hoist, to a ring that I attached 4 chains to I-bolts that went thru the platform I built.I was lucky that house was stick built, so I no issue about cutting the 2x6 floor joists and framing out the opening using 2x6 lumber. With the single point of cable attachment, it definitely liked to spin, so I wore heavy gloves to hold the cable and guided the chains into the opening as it got closer. It was functional but definitely room for improvement. Fast forward to today, newer home so it has trusses, but they are heavier trusses designed to support loads, as my furnace is in the attic. I will not disturb the trusses, but will work within the 22” opening. I like what you did utilizing the garage door hardware, and that’s how I’m going to design my system for this house, I also like the handles and the guide straps. I have question for you- why didn’t you utilize the hoist attachment system built into the housing, designed to use 2” metal stock? Overall great job and attention to detail, it never hurts to put a little pride into every project.

    • @ABrazHouse
      @ABrazHouse 6 месяцев назад

    We just got one in the mail this morning and it snowed a couple of inches last night. Unfortunately, I had to charge it and do some other things before I took it out. By then the snow was melting and was slushy. It doesn't do much more than shovel and push the slush around, but it did fine where the snow was still fluffy. I did my driveway and the sidewalk quickly and it still had a full 3 bars of battery left. My back didn't hurt at the end! Yay! Can't wait for the next snow storm!

  • @byugrad1024
    @byugrad1024 6 месяцев назад

    I am doing something similar right now however, I chose to evaluate the impacts on the trusses a bit more. I have the original truss specs and determined that sistering 2x4's would not be sufficient and possibly over stress them on the bottom chords. This is because their bottom chords are not rated for anything but hanging drywall ceilings. Trusses are extremely complex and involve precise calculations to modify loads. I have been able to engineer some myself and get them past inspection without a PE signoff on my own attached covered awning in my back yard. My inspector took a look at my plate sizes, choice of lumber sizes, and agreed it was all way over designed and would never fail. He appreciated that I also properly pressed the plates in with my own 50 ton hydraulic press that I made. Instead, in my attic, what I did was sister 2x6's across at 1' height above drywall, and hung with joist hangers from a rim joist band on a load bearing wall, or directly on top of the top plate. This also allowed me to insulate my garage. In the process I did connect them also to the trusses, but I claim this made the trusses even stronger. I even found some trusses where the nail plates were compromised and either hammered them back in, or plywood and glued them in cases where some plates never even went in because their teeth were all bent over. Construction is pretty shoddy these days and although trusses can be very strong, especially as a system, they are designed to be somewhat single fault tolerant. My max spans were 12', most were 8' since my attic space did not go the entire distance across the garage. We have a 230 sq.ft. bonus room above the garage which at a minimum of 30psf is designed to support nearly 7000 lbs. As it's only used as a kid's bedroom, I have about 5000lbs of margin that the attic could store. I'll never store that much, and even though I know it won't necessarily be to code, I also know without a doubt after load calculations it will never ever cause a problem until at least I sell. Then I may just empty it and board it up and say "cut the door back out again and use at your own risk, it's not my problem anymore."

    • @ABrazHouse
      @ABrazHouse 6 месяцев назад

      Sounds like you have a good handle on it! I have to be honest...no engineering background here, and I would probably not advertise the feature if we sold! :) Everything is still holding up great with no stress cracks even in the ceiling drywall joints.

    Interesting idea. I am planning a central vac setup in my garage for general clean up and dust collection at my miter saw. I had not considered a retractable hose hidden away in the attic. For the retraction - maybe a chain drive setup similar to commercial doors? Or a socket in the ceiling for a shaft to engage that turns the crank on the reel, like the bell cranks for high windows in a warehouse?

    Amazing setup! Wonder if it could be configured with the tabletop/bar on top, anchored to the dolly handles. That way you would have the table available whenever you drop the platform without having to screw the legs on/off. Table might be a little more solid as well. You'd want to make the tabletop easily removable for those times you need standing leverage to load heavier items.
